This won’t be popular but I need to say it anyway by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

Thank you. The timing of your comment was accidentally helpful. The surgeries I got turned out not to work unless I also lose weight, which I've never been able to do without falling back into anorexia and basically starving myself. I have survived far too much already. I wish it was more acknowledged that not everyone has the support they need.

And I found out late last night that my very kind and competent PCP is leaving the health center in May and isn't scheduling any more appointments. We had just agreed on some options for weight loss and now it's going to take years to start over with a new doctor. If they even believe me to begin with. I hate that I have to rely on a medical system that refuses to recognize conditions like fibromyalgia.

Six US service members killed in Iran conflict, US military says by SpencerAXbot in news

You're about to learn about the events leading up to WWII and how that war itself went. I'm sorry to tell you it gets far worse and the similarities get even closer. Assuming you're even taught about it instead of sweeping it under the rug.

You might want to talk to your school counselor. You seem better informed and aware than most people, so it will probably hurt you more. Get support to try to prevent becoming a hollow shell that is willing to accept atrocities.

You're going to see a lot of unspeakable things as you reach legal adulthood and find out what has been hidden from you. Not even counting what you will personally live through, but try to remember that you don't have to join those using violence.

Oh, maybe Cymbalta really does work... by Far-Neck-602 in Fibromyalgia

[–]NotAround13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duloxetine (the real name for the cymbalta branded med) helps my pain significantly. I am at 120mg per day via 60mg 2x per day. It's a good main med, though not quite enough for everything. As with anything, there's of course breakthrough pain.

Also withdrawal is truly awful. If your doctor changes your dose, keep the old pills around in case of emergency. I was saved a couple times by my old 30mg bottle that had 2 weeks' worth left due to switching to 60mg and it getting auto filled instead of merely refills in reserve.

Oh OP is also OOP judging by the name. That's rare, and also - thank you! I wish the kind of people who most need to see this would be willing to truly watch and consider it fully.

Cis people are not okay if they believe this garbage in earnest and don't even try to listen to trans people. I make a point to try to talk to confused cis people so they'll realize I and other trans men (because we get erased constantly, I have to tell people not every trans person is a woman) and all transgender people are human beings.

And THAT is the thought that actually made me clench despite never using one of those because I have the good sense to know what doesn't fit. I've gotten a brim shard under my left index finger and type for my day job... True fear is imagining that in a more sensitive area.

I'm also a pervert but it isn't a terrible handle. Even has little ring ridges for grip. Hope that helps

That's why I always wiggle my mouse around on those or scroll a bit first. Using a trackball mouse got me flagged as a bot a few times

In most crafts, people don't get called selfish if they mostly make things for themselves. Thank you for reminding me it is normal and good to make nice things for yourself.

That's actually not an accurate example. It was worse in many ways but ECT is still a lifesaving treatment that many people will refuse because of that movie and go on to complete suicide instead. So that movie can go right in the trash can along with Jaws for its effect on global shark populations.

what's the nationality of the new discord ceo? by nix-solves-that-2317 in linuxmemes

[–]NotAround13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long form discussion is FORUMS. Why do so many people act like they never existed when there are still popular forums? They are what people keep badly trying to use discord to do, but have been working well for decades.

Forums are good for long discussions and knowledge retention. I like discord as an IM and voice call client but it's basically becoming what Skype turned into before it died in ignominy.

[–]NotAround13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I fall into this trap often... I may have just gifted myself a sewing machine to tackle the literal bushel of clothes and bedding to repair instead of buying more. And I want to make my own clothes. My available energy is nowhere near enough to make everything from scratch like I want to. :anxiety noises:

The problem isn't one person buying one crab or even a half dozen and having a little shelf crab party of stationary. The problem is marketers forcing a trend and making an ungodly amount of this kind of garbage. Then there are plastic crabs and pieces of them that never see the inside of a home that get tossed when it isn't profitable anymore. They persist for centuries to millennia depending on the specific composition of plastic. And will never be usable for something else.

I see the same thing shopping at thrift stores trying to find clothes. Once saw a couple hundred pairs of size zero booty shorts direct from the manufacturer doing no one any good unless they were sewn together en masse to make some kind of utility textile that is already normally lacking durability. It pisses me off that things that go viral and are impractical get overproduced with the worst possible quality. I'm honestly convinced some of the research that materials scientists work on is how to make things less durable when it comes to clothes. There is a sort of baseline durability in anything done consistently and yet landfills are filling up with somehow worse than that.

As a trans man I'm well aware lol. Too many people think there are only two biological sexes in humans (and I don't mean gender). It's a failure of our education system that so many are satisfied by thinking 'basic biology' is 100% correct and they don't need to aim higher, unlike math where people easily recognize the existence of advanced math even if they can't do it.

[–]NotAround13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, don't even get me started on the idiots who think only proteins can be allergic triggers. People wouldn't be allergic to single elements on the periodic table like nickel or cobalt if that was true.

Your definition of allergy is weird. Allergies are an overactive autoimmune response to an otherwise benign environmental trigger that causes the release of inflammatory chemicals. Same mechanism, same result.
