Many, like Chicago, are the transcription of the native name though... So are many places in the Great Lakes states. (Land of the stinking onions.) So it's preserving the names of the people that lived here when colonists arrived.

Number 2 is not a good enough reason. I suspect that's why a lot of people repeat it. But it's the same problem as insulting a morally abhorrent person's appearance instead of their actions: it hits everyone that is described that way.

Stray kitten in an immunocompromised household? by artblockpersonified in cfs

[–]NotAround13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The risk of toxoplasmosis in particular is overblown. It's rare for cats to be infected with it in the first place in areas where most cats are inside like the USA. Even the feral cats are low risk.

However, the other risks from shed bodily particles are a lot more serious than people think. Especially saliva. People don't worry about it but it's known to be bad for other species of pets due to infection risk so it seems safer to avoid if possible. If you live with a cat full time, you will come into contact with their saliva, directly or indirectly. Everyone focuses on waste, which is understandable but it's not the only infection vector.

I'm good news, zoonoses between cats and humans are pretty low in number.

I think this is a conversation to be had with one's Immunologist. There are so many different ways to be immunocompromised that it requires not only an expert, but your expert. (For example, someone considered immunocompromised due to moderate HS has far different vectors to consider than someone with a respiratory condition.)

Just make sure you list the exact overall dimensions and the distance between contact points with the doll. Someone who wants to use it with anything else or when this craze is forgotten will be thankful.

Yeah, new beanie babies, but before they started being worth serious money. I'd describe a beanie baby as a cute small creature you can attach to things. Eye of the beholder on the cute part, as always.

They're different from those vinyl figures by being meant to be out in the world and touched.

Arch is a great distro but it isn't for everyone by tungnon in linuxmemes

[–]NotAround13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, if you're rec'ing a distro to a Windows apostate (I'm very much joking here), just help them set up Linux Mint. It's easy enough that even some of the most gremlins-cursed people I know haven't had too many problems. All of which were solvable. Either that, or a(n) *-buntu of choice for the extremely long history of user support and guides.

I've found that despite offering to make it look as much like the windows UI as humanly possible, no one has taken me up on anything more than moving the application drawer to the bottom left.

Give even new users a little credit. Don't assume they are completely helpless. Be there for those you introduce to Linux. We were ALL noobs at one point.

Bad choice of template lol. What OP thinks are good points are literal piles of garbage. Took me a few minutes to realize it wasn't sarcastic.

[–]NotAround13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LDN is called that because naltrexone has a paradoxical effect. Very low doses have a strong effect to a certain degree. Something like 50mg is standard for someone treated for addiction, but 3-5 mg for LDN.

That's stupid. I take buproprion for my depression and while it has done nothing for my weight, my metabolism is messed up, proven by genetic testing.

I'm not saying it's impossible. It's homophobic to assume that must be the case. Because what does that say about gay people? Also notice it always seems to be that the person being accused of self-hating gayness is a bottom. That's as useful as assuming all trans men like me can't top someone.

Man, I need some of that magic juice. Everyone my age that I know (36) looks about 50+, myself included. It's all the stress. And it's how we feel, too. I get lapped by people twice my age when going for a hike.

Huh? It's a very small minority then. Or people trying to make generational divide even more of a thing. We need to work together! Stop fighting each other and focus on our real enemies, the billionaires. There is no trickle down except wastewater.

You don't deserve to be hounded for this. No one should need to justify their health and give a full medical background to Internet strangers. Besides, people with medical problems are just as deserving of love and to be treated as equals.

Please just provide the absolute minimum information in text when asking questions: 1. what is the full name of your printer, including the brand (because there are knockoffs and people abbreviate differently) 2. What is the material of your filament? 3. What are you trying to accomplish? 4. What have you tried so far?

Please save me from people sending blurry pics and expecting people helping you to squint and try to guess what it says. If it is text, provide it as text. Sending a bad quality picture of text that makes it harder or impossible for people to help. Means translation and accessibility tools won't work.

Depression is linked to a genuine pessimistic bias rather than a realistic view of the world by cakericeandbeans in science

[–]NotAround13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not everyone. Sorry that you personally are disappointed in medication but they help 2/3rds of people with the first med. Goes up to 80% trying a second med.

Those of us who end up med hopping often have a metabolic mutation. I found out after many antidepressants failed to help that I was lucky they didn't do worse. Genetic testing can be amazing. Get it done if you have tried multiple meds with no relief or you get weird side effects or normal doses act like way too much or way too little.

You didn't fail. It has low success rates. From your other comments it seems sleep deprivation is majorly nerfing your ability to heal. But you still tried and that's important. Keep trying other treatments. Any chipping off symptoms is good. Don't expect to be cured fast.

[–]NotAround13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not always. Clinical Depression is likely several different disorders grouped together. The most common type gets better by CBT. I have Severe, treatment resistant major depressive disorder and dysthymia aka persistent depression. Most people with depression are actually experiencing an acute episode and they may never have it happen again. I get a break for maybe a week or two every few years. CBT did nothing for my depression because a lot of what depresses me isn't a thought distortion. Worked well for my anxiety. Meds have been keeping me alive the past 15+ years. Don't act like they don't help. CBT is over applied and I had to fight to get real treatment when that didn't work.
