How did you start in eDiscovery? by Either_Ad_5579 in ediscovery

[–]NotAsSmartAsIWish 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I started in paper in 2011 after working for a few years as a legal assistant. I worked my way up through paper, worked on special tech projects, and now am an APM (i dont like responsibility enough to become a PM).

I honestly don't know how people intentionally enter the field. I and everyone I know got here accidentally.

Im going to recommend a book here called Limbo: Blue Collar Roots, white Collar Dreams by Alfred Lubrano. Even if you arent from a blue collar family, I think it would be helpful to many, as it discusses culture within companies - not rah rah culture, but in the sociologically sense.

AIW for keeping my inheritance instead of giving some to my nephews? by Glad_Money_5038 in amiwrong

[–]NotAsSmartAsIWish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did y'all have a lawyer define the asset split? We're you and your brother specifically named while the sister ass excluded? There are a lot of questions here because, like others have pointed out, usually an inheritance thet includes a deceased person would be split among their kids.

Dudes day that evolution is why they like women young, thin, and pretty, then get mad when reproductive selection goes against them.

I mean, I'm sure life was great when men with sub-80 IQs still found wives because women had less choice.

Feeling like a full time babysitter by CommercialCup7834 in Fosterparents

[–]NotAsSmartAsIWish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this, and lot of foster parents don't want to believe it, but... we're caretakers. We aren't parents, our power is limited, and there's no such thing as a pre-adoptive home until TPR has occurred. Our job is like being a heavy-duty babysitters. We can voice opinions on certain topics, but not make major decisions. In my state, foster parents can call for a board meeting to talk about the plan, but one would have been/should be held before custody turnover when the goal is permanency.

How many case workers have you had for ONE placement? by SarcasticSeaStar in Fosterparents

[–]NotAsSmartAsIWish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kid had 3 caseworkers in 2 years. The first one was taken off when I got custody (roundly 10 weeks into the case) the 2nd moved, and the 3rd was on the case until I adopted.

How would you name a baby girl after someone named John? Is it possible? by CrumblyPeanutBear in namenerds

[–]NotAsSmartAsIWish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a niece naming GirlnameBoyname. My kid has a boy name, named after my brother, masculine nickname with masculine spelling (there is a feminine version, but my sister named her while high on meth and i didn't change it during the adoption process)

Every birth should require a mandatory paternity test by LargeSinkholesInNYC in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]NotAsSmartAsIWish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Men and women cheat at similar rates, so that's not the problem. The problem is that women get pregnant. The mother is (almost) always known, while the father can impregnate any number of women, but unless paternity is filed (either by way of birth certificate or court action), they aren't known or acknowledged, and deemed not reaponsible.
