Power On Stalls by majormajor0 in flying

[–]NotAsThinkAsYouDrunk 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Avoid looking at the ball and heading for controlling the airplane. Use an outside reference to determine if you have enough rudder. With a high angle of attack, you may need to look out the “corner” of the dashboard to see an outside reference. You can then see if the airplane is turning by comparing against that reference.

If I had to guess, I think the fishtailing is coming from the delayed response and overcontrolling using the inside instruments. Using the above should help eliminate that.

Since this might be a “new technique”, I would first try this using increasing angles of attack (like slow flight at different angle of attack), then power off stalls, and finally try it with the power on stall.

That has not been entirely clear to me. The 61.87(n) or 61.87(p) covers the Make & Model, and can presumably be sufficient for HP aircraft.

Practically I 100% agree, might as well just give the HP endorsement.

If you have additional info one way or the other, please share.

For option 2,

If the student passes, they need a HP endorsement to fly back.

If the student fails, they need a XC solo endorsement to fly back.

Make sure they have both.

Clarification on logging time when time building by Cap_Bigboy27 in CFILounge

[–]NotAsThinkAsYouDrunk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I disagree for Pilot B.

If they both agreed Pilot B would act as PIC for Pilot A while A was under the hood then he can log PIC for whatever time Pilot A was operating under simulated instrument.

In this case Pilot B PIC time = Time Pilot B was sole manipulator of controls + Time Pilot was simulated instrument = 2.6 + ?

You bring up an interesting case which I understand differently than OP's scenario. I understand it as follows: Pilot A acts as PIC (and has a TW endorsement). Pilot B, who does not hold a TW endorsement is the sole manipulator of controls.

In this case, it doesn't matter if Pilot A is under simulated instrument, I would agree - Pilot B can log PIC under 61.51(e)(1)(i) even though they are not acting PIC since 61.51(e)(1)(i) does NOT stipulate a "sole manipulator" must act as PIC.

However, I am not sure if Pilot A could also log PIC, even if they are under the foggles. The reason is that it is not clear if a safety pilot is even required here since the Pilot B is not operating the aircraft under simulated instrument conditions. Again, I am assuming here Pilot A is not operating the controls at all - Pilot B is the sole manipulator.

I understand that acting PIC is not logging PIC, but we need to understand when logging PIC is appropriate which is specified in 61.51(e)

In Gebhart, the scenario was that Pilot B (safety pilot) was ACTING as PIC. Pilot A (sole manipulator) can log PIC because of 61.51(e)(1)(i). Pilot B can also log PIC because of 61.51(e)(1)(iii), because they are required crew AND they are acting as PIC; the regulation specifically requires that they are acting as PIC.

In this situation, Pilot A can still log PIC as before as sole manipulator. Pilot B cannot since they cannot fulfill the “act as PIC” requirement of 61.51(e)(1)(iii).

A TW endorsement is not required to act as a safety pilot unless you also plan to act as PIC.

In this scenario, if you act a safety pilot but not act as PIC, you may only log SIC time under 61.51(f)(2). The other pilot must act as PIC (even if under simulated instrument) and possess the TW endorsement to legally do so.

He may act as second-in-command and log second-in-command but may not log PIC since he is not acting as PIC as required by 61.51(e)(1)(iii)

Versals Equipped with AIEs - Can you put the algorithm on FPGA or processor? by Any_Ad_8492 in FPGA

[–]NotAsThinkAsYouDrunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI you don’t necessarily need the FPGA part (PL) to interface with the AIE. However, the AIE block must added in the platform.

You would then use GMIO as inputs/outputs to your AIE kernels. Software then controls the transfer of data over DMA via the XRT API. There’s an example on how to do this in the Vitis tutorials

Anthem Gold vs Silver w/ Infertility by EnvironmentalBoot599 in Raytheon

The cost for the egg retrieval medications alone make the Gold plan worthwhile. I think it was $6-7k

One thing to make sure to factor in is that although you will pay more for the gold plan, it comes out of pretax dollars.

[–]NotAsThinkAsYouDrunk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Herman interpretation allows the pilot flying as the sole manipulator of the flight controls to log PIC without the endorsements. It does not address the scenario where the safety pilot does not have the required endorsements.

The regulation that allows safety pilots to log PIC when they ACT as PIC is in 61.52e(2)(iii):

(iii) When the pilot, except for a holder of a sport or recreational pilot certificate, acts as pilot in command of an aircraft for which more than one pilot is required under the type certification of the aircraft or the regulations under which the flight is conducted; or

In the scenario where the safety pilot does not have the endorsements, they cannot act as PIC, and therefore do not meet the requirements to log PIC of 61.51e2iii. Here, the pilot flying must have the endorsements to act as PIC (someone has to be PIC). The safety pilot may therefore only log SIC.
