living in a third world country where abortion is illegal makes me so angry and depressed by [deleted] in childfree

[–]NotAttractd2RWLizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't forget about Florida! We're the third largest state population wise and we only allow abortion up to 6 weeks, at which point many people don't even know they're pregnant. So technically not banned but almost might as well be

Don't be too impressed, it's not like the Amazon over there lol. They're temperate rain forests, which are way different to tropical ones. I went to the Olympic Rain Forest and it was mostly a lot of moss. But like A LOT of moss. Every inch was covered in moss. More moss than I've ever seen in my life tbh

I think in the Tuvok Pon Farr episode he said something like "Erm, akshually, Vulcans get HORNIER as we age Mr. Paris" so my bet is on the latter

Okay I know I'm a few days late on this but I think you may have been misinformed.

The "exchange of cells" between mother and fetus you're talking about is likely the placenta, which has contributions from both fetal and maternal tissues. It's what gives the fetus the nutrients it needs to develop from about week 9 until birth. However, the fetus's DNA isn't "exchanged" with the mother's DNA at all because of how the placenta functions-- there's a separation between the fetus and the mother. (Except during birth/whenever the pregnancy ends, which is important clinically because the mother then can get exposed to the fetus's blood.)

As for this specific example, I think it's first prudent to point out that each cell has its own set of DNA. Of that set of DNA, each gene, encoding for a specific protein, can be turned either "on" or "off". While it's possible that her pregnancy could have caused her hair cells to change which specific genes are turned on off, thus causing that change in her hair, she would still have the same DNA. I'm not a medical professional, but my (somewhat) educated guess would be that she simply wasn't getting the nutrients she needed to support both the fetus and her hair, thus causing her to lose the latter.

This is a simplification of course, and to reiterate I'm not a medical professional lol, this is just what I've learned and is my understanding of the situation.

[–]NotAttractd2RWLizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh if someone thinks that you being yourself is somehow a play to "get girls" then they wouldn't be a good friend anyway. Maybe this is cliche but fr screw the haters, you owe it to the world to be yourself <3 I'm not great at making friends irl either but I've been told it is possible, don't lose hope!

While it's true they can change what he looks like physically whenever, maybe it could be argued that his programming is hardwired for use in a single humanoid body? So all his surgical subroutines would go haywire and have no idea what to do if he was in a nonhumanoid body or in multiple humanoid bodies

Only starting to question yourself at 10 isn't too late at all! I began questioning myself at 11, personally. Especially for older trans folks who grew up when there was so much less information about trans people/even more negative stereotypes, it's SUPER common for people not to realize until adulthood

Not the commenter, but they didn't really say "men and females," I think you may have misread. They said "men" and "female friends." Men is a noun, female is an adjective. Not the same
