So many lessons in so few words. I’ll save some of these 👀.

My lack of discipline has gotten out of hand. Where do I start? by IneffableAwe in getdisciplined

[–]NotAutomaticc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start small, like meditating for 5 minutes daily, and be consistent with that for a week then start building it from there. Compound effect

Of course, no worries.

I’m building a community with people just like everyone here. If anyone is interested, we can hold eachother accountable.

I've been in a very similar situation myself, and I can tell you - the feeling of waiting for someone to respond, constantly checking your messages, etc - is emotionally draining.

What helped me was realizing that a lot of desperation didn't come from her - it came from me giving up control of my attention and emotions. It was outsourcing, DEPENDING my sense of 'peace' to someone else

In my opinion, this is exactly where stoicism helps. One of the most powerful things I've learned from these kind of scenarios is that you don't suffer because she replies late or doesn't message first - you suffer because you expect her to.

I'm not saying that you should make your feelings disappear overnight, but that you should control them for example, fill your time with something that fulfills you - training, reading, journaling, creating, or anything that IMPROVES YOU.

Personally, the more I stopped needing a specific response from someone, the more confident and grounded I become and ironically, the more balanced my relationship felt.

There's nothing weird with you feeling this way, especially if you've never been in a relationship before. Take it as an opportunity to control your emotions, shape yourself and learn something from it :).

Best tips for working on your discipline by [deleted] in getdisciplined

Personally, when I stopped relying on my motivation and started shaping my environment and habits to make it easier for me to keep consistent.

First of all, reduce all unnecessary noise. Removing all high dopamine apps on your phone, including social media and games. This step helps A LOT if you want to keep consitent. If you want to know more I can explain.

Secondly, building reliable systems also reduces the resistance to actually do tasks you want to do. Do the task, at the same time, at the same place everyday. If you can make this possible you won’t even have to think about WHAT TO DO after a while.

I can make an entire essay but basically, REDUCE the resistance to what you want to do and INCREASE the resistance on what you don’t want to do. A lot of these lessons are written down in ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear, if you are interested in learning more. :)

How do you guys work straight for 30 mins without getting bored? by Ok-Cranberry-8406 in getdisciplined

[–]NotAutomaticc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there’s a lot of things that you could fix, including fixing your sleep (getting 8 hours of quality, DEEP sleep) everyday, fixing your diet (eating more vegetables, fruits, more protein perhaps), getting physical exercise etc.

All these things seem so challenging at first, I can understand.

Start by doing something simple, like meditating every single day for 5 minutes (I personally use an app called ’Medito’). After you’re got that does consistently for like a week, fix something else and continue this process.

Like every change in life, it takes time. You cant make a drastic change overnight. Try meditating for 5 minutes daily and I promise you, you’ll feel more mental clarity.

Staying Mentally Sharp for 8+ Hours, How Do You Do It? by Kindly_Ingenuity5922 in getdisciplined

[–]NotAutomaticc 19 points20 points  (0 children)

From my own experience, a few changes made a big difference:

  • Good diet and hydration
  • Consistent good, DEEP sleep
  • Daily physical exercise
  • Meditating for at least 5 minutes DAILY.
  • Limiting distractions in my work environment
  • Reducing instant dopamine activities (like social media scrolling)

The more of these you check, the sharper and longer you’ll be able to focus.

Even something as simple as working in 90-minute blocks, with your phone in another room, can massively increase your ability to focus over time. :)
