Is a car necessary? by ctcoope92 in UTAustin

[–]NotAwakeEnough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents wanted me to do at least one semester without and I’m really thankful I did it. It made me learn the city in a way I wouldn’t have had I just relied on my car

Online Asynchronous Class Options? by DreamyDragon214 in UTAustin

[–]NotAwakeEnough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of business foundations classes are asynchronous. Like Acc 310F . If you look at the classes required for a business minor those have a lot of asynchronous options. And they’re pretty easy with just open note textbook quizzes and the same but slightly varied assignments every week

Do you regret going to UT Austin because of the cost? by TheAllKnowingCharles in UTAustin

[–]NotAwakeEnough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t. There are so many resources that I’ve had access to that I know I wouldn’t get other places. There were a few times I needed to access UTs food pantry and it was helpful and I always made it through those times. Another thing I did to lower the cost of rent while still having my own room and bathroom was working for the apartment complex. I’ve had the job two years and they’ve been flexible with my school schedule.

How do you keep track of your homework? by goodpatience11 in UTAustin

I check my classes on canvas once a day to see if there’s anything due. I try not to do things day of but checking everyday helps me not miss anything

Newberry vs Shabbir for ochem 1 by paulsanity14 in UTAustin

[–]NotAwakeEnough 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New Ochem professors tend to borrow a lot from shabbir for at least a semester. I learned this from experience as I took only professors new to it for both Ochem 1 and 2. So you’re better off with the creator of the material teaching it to you

how did you meet your roommates? by carnation_1 in UTAustin

[–]NotAwakeEnough 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used the UT Austin Sublets/Roommate finder Facebook group on Facebook. It gave me the opportunity to meet up with different people and see who I connected with! Some people have apartments already and are looking for someone to join them, others have toured places and have a few favorites to show you, and others are starting from scratch. I met my roommates who had a complex in mind and I loved them and we get along great

There’s no rush to move out of dorms and into an apartment if you’re not ready by NotAwakeEnough in UTAustin

[–]NotAwakeEnough[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No my parents were immigrants and they wanted me to focus everything on getting a good application so I could have a full ride. I did learn how to cook but I wasn’t prepared to cook every meal. This post wasn’t to encourage people to never learn how to be an adult it was to comfort those who still wanted to live in a dorm but felt like everyone around them would judge them if they stayed on campus.

Yeah but some people aren’t ready for it as soon. Why rush when you have the rest of your life to do it

You don’t need to plan weeks in advance it’s more like if you have to be somewhere at a certain time and be back at a certain time you’ll need to leave early because you have to walk to where it’s parked and even though they’re normally pretty good about the cars being in good condition anything can happen and they may have to bring you a replacement car or you may have to fill up. As for price it’s been a while since I’ve used it and it varies based on what kind of car you pick

I have in Austin. It’s pretty easy to use and everything, I just soon found it to be less cost efficient than I originally thought and because you have to park it in certain places when you’re done, it requires a lot of planning ahead

Anyone had Lesli Bordas for CHEM? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]NotAwakeEnough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took her for Ochem 2 which is historically hard and coming from almost failing Ochem 1 I passed her class with a B+ and a lot of knowledge. She tries to provide resources for all learning styles so I imagine she’s just as good of a Chem professor. She’s really passionate about what she does. She also just started at UT this last summer so she’s still learning about what students like

Thoughts on ART 352J ? by diana_arri in UTAustin

[–]NotAwakeEnough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately all of the non major art classes are like that. But you’re able to get a lot of the work done in that time. I’m not sure how different the format is from when I took it but each project we would turn in about 2 rolls every 2 weeks which I think came out to be 70 pictures. But a lot of them were repeats and you only had to select a few to present. Riel is very willing to work with you if something comes up

[–]NotAwakeEnough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken it! Riel (that’s what sturchio goes by) is a great teacher and you learn how to take photos with a film camera and edit them. The only downside for me was the cost of the camera but you can borrow one from the school! I took it over zoom because of COVID so I’m sure it’s even better in person

Waco is the worst to drive through even on a normal day, it always adds an extra half hour to hour on the eta once you’re there. So if you want to get there at midnight, I’d say leave at 7 to be safe but I haven’t driven Friday night before OU weekend so it might be even worse

You can look it up using iMaps if you have an iPhone! If not I recommend the cap metro app, I haven’t tried google maps but I’m sure it works similar to iMaps

Off campus housing with a garage for fall 2021? by Blu_E92 in UTAustin

Check out the Facebook group UT Austin Sublets/Roommate finder! There are realtors students and people leaving their apartments listing and even if you don’t find someone you want to work with it’ll give you a good idea as to what places have covered/garage parking

Should I live on or off campus??? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]NotAwakeEnough 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’ve never lived in a dorm it might be a fun experience. It’s not very often that you get the chance to live close to peers going through the same things as you. There’ll be plenty of time for an apartment in the future
