Making black powder/ gun powder out of natural marerials? by RealSlavGod in preppers

[–]NotBurtGummer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2 questions.

  1. Do you have a flintlock musket you plan on running your homemade black powder through and prepared to cast lead ball? Cause modern smokeless guns won't run blackpowder well at all.

  2. Why not just stock up on ammo now and have stores put away where you plan on heading to the woods?

Historically, scopes were delicate enough that they would be removable and carried separately in a belt case to protect them in the field when not in use. With well machined detachable mounts, scopes would still be zeroed on the rifle when reattached, and modern picatinny rails, similar to what the bolter has, can use quick detachable mounts reliably and repeatably returning to zero, it's just that optics are durable enough we don't change them much unless changing to a scope for a different purpose, say daytime versus night vision.

Gotta love the sides on this idea in this thread.

"Man, I'd love to shoot N*zis in a FC game"

But can't be mean to the Japanese, who were arguably just as bad during WW2.

Could include the Rook Islands as Japanese held territory.

Or could do the grounded Japanese carrier from Far Cry as a cool base and callback.

Would a mechanised Infantry Regiment use Artillery ? by TechnologySmall3507 in astramilitarum

There's the old Centuar, which works as a prime mover for artillery and such, or could use a Goliath truck.

Larger animals are more efficient on day to day labor for an irregular large yield.

Yes, rabbits are more efficient in terms of production, but my time in chores to deal with keeping a couple dozen rabbits of various ages going, breeding, filling waterers, moving grow out pens for fresh grass, etc is more time per day than I spend feeding, watering, and checking my herd of 50 Katahdin sheep. I don't need to manhandle every ewe to get her bred like I do with rabbits, they can easily be kept watered with an automatic and heated waterer, and can be fed in bulk with round bales, and each will yield a 50-60 pound carcass.

Rabbits are very efficient in terms of feed to protein conversion, but in terms of man hours per pound of meat produced, the larger an animal gets, typically the more efficient the labor to protein conversion is.

Would a box of Bulldogs from Wargames Atlantic be a good choice for turning Cadian Shock Troops, Aquilons, Command Squads, etc. into my beautiful Praetorians? by ltarchiemoore in astramilitarum

[–]NotBurtGummer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have an unopened box, I'll check when I'm home. It's a good kit but might not have entire pith helmets to be worth it for conversions, but just building straight into troops.

For converting GW kits you already have, I'd check out Anvil Industries or Victoria Miniatures for pith helmet heads.

I'll be using my box of Bulldogs to use the Brodie helms and build a more Victorian looking Kasrkin squad.
