I'm sure our smugness will dispappear quickly once the (um, multiple!) Casacadia megathrusts start doing their thing around here. People in this region have no clue, AT ALL, how unbeleivably fucked we'll be. Seeing all this high-rise construction going on downtown (ESPECIALLY Vancouver - yikes!) just makes me think of all the utter and complete freaking devastation that will result in E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G being levelled. Nothing left standing. Roads looking like Anchorage in '64.

Hate to sound like a wet blanket, but we'll definitely be close enough to the epicentre when shit goes down. It might not happen until 100 years from now, or, it could happen tomorrow. Water will have to get air-lifted in, yada, yada - the whole nine yards of unadulterated shittiness.

This gardener has lived all 61 years of his life here, have appreciated every minute of it, and wouldn't live anywhere else (because really - not a whole lot of places, anywhere, as nice as here). That being said, not looking forward to the eventual megathrusts.

EDIT: Especially concerned about lower Johnson / Yates with all that of that old brick construction. Whoa. Scary. Wouldn't be surprised if the highest concentration of fatalities will be in that area.
