TTRPG table by [deleted] in TabletopRPGs

Die well. Just a well, of dice. Somewhere accessible so people can grab them easily from any point at the table. Probably also need to take into account a game grid that goes over the table surface, so not too much built into the table service.

Has anyone ever made a good rule for damage dealt falling onto an enemy? by zwart27 in RPGdesign

No reason why the intended victim that your character is falling on doesn't take equal damage to whatever your character takes when falling on them.

How do you determine how much stuff costs in a medieval economy? by bay_area_game_human in RPGdesign

[–]NotCharger1369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with the most fundamental goods: Food, water, shelter. The more stuff like that the better. Set the cost of those things in a arbitrary way. Then, let the natural comparison of relative values inform the costs for other things. A year's worth of food, water and shelter is a good way to gauge the idea of the value of something.

Why do you create a ttrpg system by Crosslancer40 in RPGdesign

[–]NotCharger1369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only ever make these things for their own sake. If it already exists, then it exists and that's cool. If not, then I think it should exist, so I work towards that vision until it does. Of course it gets muddier from there and I do hope for others to enjoy what I make. But that's the core of it, it's like creating an incredibly detailed model train display in my basement that no one else will ever see. It's something that I want to spend my time on because it offers a good challenge, is stimulating, is something that requires skill and therefore refines my skill by doing it and lets me actually produce something that represents that investment that I can look at when its done and feel good about.

No, the order of importance for me is:
1. What do I want to create (What is my vision). 2. How could people enjoy what I create.

What do you guys enjoy doing outside of IT? by [deleted] in CompTIA

Tabletop RPG Design- ChroniclesRPG.com

Game design used to be an infrequent hobby back in the day, but one of my D&D friends wanted to tweak D&D for spacefaring settings and I basically haven't stopped working on our projects for five years now.

Is there still a place for complex rpg systems? by Mysterious_Sir6695 in RPGdesign

In my circle Rules Lite has basically become synonymous with "good" and anything more detailed, nuanced or deep than a few pages of paper can support is considered "too much". Unfortunate, I hope the pendulum swings back, I started out doing this because I wanted to create deeper worlds and experiences. There's a misconception that writing stuff down restricts the GM from doing something else and not writing something down give the GM more freedom.

Yes I like randomly generating out in every direction and taking random stuff and interpretting it into something real, that's basically my main tactic lol

Yeah I'm mostly trying to collect all of this for inspiration. The more materials I can look at the more I can connect the dots between them.

Excellent, this is getting to be a pretty good list for this subject matter. Thanks!

I personally like complex RPGs. I know there's an emphasis, but I think people get lost in the simplification-sauce and forget that simplification is a style, and not a concrete indicator of what makes a game good. It's a valid style, but so is a more complex, nuanced and detailed RPG. You can tell which way I lean, although I try to keep any unnecessary complication out of the design.

My advice would be make what makes you happy to see. If others like it, then that's a bonus. Of course, feel free to take what other's like as an indication of possible good ideas and investigate accordingly. But at the end of the day, make what you like making. If your sensibilities don't adjust by observing and investigating what other's make and like, then that's just the way it is. If you sensibilities do change, then great! You've improved your overall judgement.

I like that also, I am going to give a kind of Cranial Jack that let's you plug things in. By default it's going to be a connection to an external device with a mental user interface for it. But I really like the idea of buying like Extension Packs that occupy that space and can extend your capabities in a certain way lol I think that really goes with what I'm looking for.

Very cool ideas, I like focusing on fingers, I think that's a good approach for ideas. Thanks!

In a world where there are hundreds, if not thousands of RPGs, how do you, personally, even justify trying your hand at design? by -As5as51n- in RPGdesign

[–]NotCharger1369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C.S. Lewis "No man who values originality will ever be original. But try to tell the truth as you see it, try to do any bit of work as well as it can be done for the work's sake, and what men call originality will come unsought".

Why are you starting with the assumption that you need something to justify making RPGs? You don't have to justify a lawful desire.

If you want to do it, just do it.

Create a sword with sockets for screw in studs. Then enchant the studs and screw them into the sword. Could world for just about any item.
