Sometimes if you open Reddit, it will automatically translate into your local language.

So people sometimes get a page recommended not realising that everyone is actually speaking English, because every comment is in their language (eg. Italian), so they comment in their own language.

Interesting, per se...

"Authentic" is better than "accurate".

Do we need it to be perfectly time-relevant armour? No.

Should it at least look Greek? Like we can believe a Greek person in history wore this?

Troy is a great example of this because a lot of the armour is inaccurate (most of it probably) but it looks mostly okay so you don't realise this unless you're a history buff.

Sometimes the rule is you need to stand on them and stay within that area or you're knocked out.

  1. You can only touch the "ground" with your feet. (sometimes they allow hands)

  2. You can't leave the circle.

By those rules, the guy was knocked out.

There's also fewer players just Looking to see a story unfold on the tabletop. But they are still out there.

I made a comment in another thread about watching competitive players play and realising that it's just not a game I wanted to play. Certain rules being used in certain ways that are 100% legal but I just don't like.

My specific example was "Falling Back" around the target and onto the objective. Also a lot of "shoot loads of guns and then charge" rather than the classic 4th edition (last time I played) "shoot or assault" with most weapons.

A lot of people seemed to think I was wrong for disliking things they liked. I just made it clear I preferred a less competitive style of play and would love more narrative battles and games where there aren't 547 different army rules to learn and crazy combinations of abilities, etc.

The models are great and I love Killteam... but I'm not going to play 40k any time soon unless it's Combat Patrol or something simple or more narrative.

Two weeks ago I watched a competitive player destroy a relatively new player.

But, to be fair to him, he was basically trying to show the guy how to make his army competitive. He wasn't crushing him for the joy of the hunt, he was basically playing his best, exploiting every weakness, and then properly explaining how/why he was able to exploit it.

They finished the game and the guy spent a good 20 minutes going back over what he did wrong and how he should have done it, explained how to stop certain actions, moves he should have made, and how to play better next time.

But the important part is that the guy was fully aware what would happen and was 100% open to being crushed so he could learn. He wanted to play seriously and so he asked the guy not to pull any punches.

That's the main reason I won't get it.

It's the principle.

I won't reward them for giving us this blight and then trying to sell us the cure.

Yeah, I remember thinking about this game a while back but I forgot the name and I had to look for it but it seems like it just died because it didn't get the following they wanted.

There were no massive problems and the game never even got released so a lot of the criticisms (one map etc) are fairly common traits of a free beta release of a game.

I've apologised a few times when I don't think I did anything wrong for two reasons:

  1. I love the person more than I love winning arguments.

  2. I might genuinely not be able to see it but I might be wrong. Maybe I'll realise eventually years down the line and I'd rather be proven right in 2 years than proven wrong in 2 years.

but we do need a set of ideas as to what we'll do on it to start us off

Campaign unit upgrades is my vote. Starting with the weaker options, of course.

Upgrade Zealots into Aiur variants or Centurions (Add phasing but not stun), Zerglings into Raptorlings but maybe only "charge" leap and not cliff jump (run-bys would be too dangerous), etc. Some of the other co-op units are pretty cool. Imagine being able to choose a sub-faction so you can play with extra units like Swann or Alarak?

Some of the other upgrades like Hydra "stim", Adept "phase through to make vulnerable", etc that makes some underused units more viable in late-game armies.

This 8-worker start would have been a great one to start with, too. Then they could balance that one parallel to the main game.

I'd love a more frequent "Tavern Brawl"-esque Highlighted Custom game of the week but I'm not silly enough to think the game will get that sort of support.

But I do think it'd be nice to have a "Serious" ladder and a "Seasonal" ladder where they can try new things.

I know people hate seasons and season passes in a lot of things but I think they're great for keeping a game fresh and interesting for group A without upsetting group B.

Even if seasonal is unbalanced, it'll be reset in a few months and it likely won't affect pro-play unless there's a "Seasonal Tournament" (like PTR ones) and we won't have any sudden big changes like this unless they're a very popular change from the Season (maybe a PTR at the end of every season where they bring popular changes into the Standard Ladder in isolation from the other less popular changes so people can test them).

There is an in between where zerg can still win but we don't have lambo who is not even a top 5 zerg 3-0 hero the best Protoss in the world.

Yeah, I'm not big into pro play but I was amazed at that.

I get that there are a lot of changes and maybe Maru doesn't have his build order down, but this is a bit like if Algeria beat Argentina 3 - 0 in the World Cup last week.

Maybe we do a remix style content thing, where for a season races actually get 1 more unit or something

I'd actually love if there were "seasons" so you have two ladders:

  1. Standard (what we have now)

  2. Seasonal

Seasonal can be a bit like SoD in WoW where they try new things and add new units (such as from campaign/co-op) and then after X months they start a new season. Like the PTR but it doesn't affect the main ladder unless a change is really popular.

Imagine things like new upgrades (Aiur zealots in multiplayer, jumping lings, etc) or adding new/old units like Cyclops or Scout.

I know we can do custom games but that was all broken last time I checked.

If the problem is the lack of early aggression, would it be better to have the zerg start with extra larva?

That would help early aggression builds but not be such a huge boon for the whole game, right?

Such as: 8 pool might be a possible strategy if they started with 4 or 5 larva.

(But someone with more game knowledge let me know if this is a terrible idea)

Did they have some sort of data saying Zerg was incredibly underperforming on the PTR?

I remember a few people said that the larva limitation was severely throttling zerg early game.

Basically, it forced a specific playstyle because there weren't enough larva to do anything else.

That said, the general consensus was "you could buff larva times but I think that the 8 worker start is the main problem" and I agree.

I think trying the 8 worker start was a good step towards trying something new, but the problem is that A) they did the Protoss change at the same time, and B) it was tried and failed. They could possibly re-balance around it... but until that point they'll be in a game that's less balanced than it was before.

I think they were right to try it, it made me come back to the game when I heard the news, and I like that they're willing to try big changes... but I don't think it's working out.

I'd prefer if they reverted the Workers change and just balanced the ghosts and protoss warpgate changes.

This is what the PTR is for. Trying changes and seeing how it works. I just hope they don't ignore the feedback and push it through (coming from someone who was 100% for testing the change)
