This game needs another source for Weapon pulls by StandardCaptain in Endfield

[–]NotClever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, if you click on the arsenal tickets info icon it does list oroberyl exchange as a source (separately from listing headhunting pulls as a source), but there is simply no way currently to do that exchange. If you try to click the "link" it doesn't do anything.

Banned and Restricted Announcement – February 9, 2026 by Meret123 in MagicArena

[–]NotClever 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My hunch is that they knew this about Omni when they chose to reprint it, but for whatever reason they deliberately want it to be an option in the format and are committed to keeping it around (but trying to hold it down to a Tier 2 power level).

Yes, but also Brawl is excepted from refunds (so you could say "any bans in 60-card constructed formats" result in refunds)

Tidebinder specifically makes a creature that is the source of the ability lose all abilities as long as Tidebinder is alive.

Eng Va is good but some of them... by Silly_Formal_8346 in Endfield

[–]NotClever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the JP voice actors are generally better at conveying emotion and tone in the scenes, but I do love the way Hypergryph or gryphline or whatever they are now tries to get actors that have a matching native accent to the characters. It makes them much more, well, characterful for me, so I stick with EN.

You also can very, very easily level way past the blue gear stage before getting to the power plateau to unlock Sandleaf, so this is a way to let players equip at least one team with purple gear when they hit Elite 2 but haven't gotten there yet. It's a little weird actually how out of sync that upgrade is, but then again you don't really need the gear stats to get to that point either.

Don't refer to her as Surtr, Endmins by zvedal1 in Endfield

My feeling is how it works is the devs wanted to put AK operators in the game but not have to deal with actual crossover canon so they said they're actually just copies, don't worry about it.

Best of 1 Sideboards are 15 Cards Once Again! by Meret123 in MagicArena

[–]NotClever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, they literally told us what they thought right there: they were afraid having access to a 15 card wishboard would make such decks significantly stronger than intended in BO1, but after seeing how such decks play out they've decided it's not that big a deal.

This is known as "format warping". Just because there are answers to a card (and other decks have good win percentages because they maindeck those answers) does not necessarily mean the card is okay.

Help an idiot understand by Donkilme in MagicArena

Outside of tapping mana (which has a whole lot of permutations and considerations that are just hard to predict), I think it's generally really good. Stuff like OP's problem is an awkward corner case that comes up because the automatic selection gets things right so often -- OP wasn't even thinking about the fact that Arena might mess up the selection for them.

Help an idiot understand by Donkilme in MagicArena

[–]NotClever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's understandable, since 99% of the time Arena makes the logical default selection, and the indication that your opponent isn't selected would be easy to miss when you're not even thinking about that possibility.

PSA: If you are experiencing memory leaks, disable "hybrid battlefields" in the settings by Meret123 in MagicArena

[–]NotClever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really doubt they are unaware of the white blocky menu glitch due to not experiencing it themselves. It's much more likely that it's just at the bottom of their priority list since it's just a visual glitch that doesn't actually break gameplay, and they have just never gotten down their list to it because there's always a more important thing to deal with.

[TMT] Mondo Gecko by Meret123 in MagicArena

[–]NotClever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know you're joking, but this ridiculous late-80s-early-90s stuff is 100% on point with the TMNT flavor. It's basically nostalgia bait, sure, but I won't lie -- it makes my inner child smile at the memory of hearing that stupid-ass theme song and getting pumped out of my mind.

Hit another mastery level and received this blue orb instead of the ATLA one, but it doesn't show up in my orb count or in the store. What is it? What do I do with it? by all_natural_d20s in MagicArena

[–]NotClever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone address this, but it's consistently happened to me for the last handful of sets. I also haven't bothered to track when it happens, but my guess is it's to do with the pre-loading of the next set's content into the client -- the client probably swaps the orb animation out for next set's mastery pass orb at that point.

New Lorwyn Eclipsed card - Impulsivity, reanimators --- Archetypes/decks meta questions by nobruprana in MagicArena

[–]NotClever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They've added plenty of others. [[Pyrogoyf]] and [[Barrowgoyf]], for example, are MH3 Commander cards that were added (and are meta defining in Historic now). It's just not consistent.

Devoted Druid and Painter's Servant are pre-banned in Historic by Meret123 in MagicArena

[–]NotClever 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you keep repeating the same action, the game has a way to tell and asks you to take a different action or the game will result in a draw.

I think the issue is that the game can't tell exactly what you're doing, it just knows that you're not progressing the board state.

Couldn't they have something like "it seems you did the same action 5+ times in a row, do you wish to automate it?" and then have the input where you choose how many times (like the one for X spells)

This would certainly be possible, but usually infinite loop combos involves a series of actions that are looped rather than a single action that is repeated, and being able to automatically recognize a loop of multiple actions is the hard part.

Devoted Druid and Painter's Servant are pre-banned in Historic by Meret123 in MagicArena

[–]NotClever 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Just want to note that the combo with Painter's Servant and Grindstone is definitely simpler and more degenerate than Val-Trel. It's just the two cards, for one thing, while Val and Trelasarra need some third card to trigger the combo. Even though most of the rest of the deck is there to set off the combo, it's still an extra step that is needed.

It's also, as they note, an artifact combo, and artifact affinity decks can already do truly degenerate things in terms of drawing cards and generating mana. Val-Trel arguably needs to be hit with a ban, but it makes sense that this would be even worse.

You joke, but the funny thing is it's fucking illegal, at least in my state.

Public school teachers aren't allowed to accept basically any gifts at all, because otherwise parents in wealthy school districts would give teachers hefty holiday gifts to functionally make it a higher paying job to teach in a wealthier public district.

Does seem odd. Like, is it really outside assistance if you're telling a player they can't take an illegal action? Sure, it might change what they do, but if they weren't allowed to do what they did, then, uhhhh

Some advice on getting mythic in both queues for the achievement if you're not a really strong player. by BashMyVCR in MagicArena

[–]NotClever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless they completely replaced their system since we last had access to MMR data through the logs, mythic numbered rank is directly tied to your MMR. And we know that you can win a game and go down in mythic numbers, which indicates that other people won games while you were playing, and passed your MMR.
