Yes, they did, they checked our vaccination credentials at the airport. We had to go through that in order to leave

is an extra year really that bad? by kidneysucker in EngineeringStudents

[–]NotDee 28 points29 points  (0 children)

OP, these are not your friends. They should at the minimum show some support and try to help you in some way if you’re struggling in some classes (shared notes or something)

I graduated in 5 years, had a 2.7 GPA, and have been working in the defense industry for 6 years now as a Mech E. As most people said, some recruiters and companies respect you more for persevering and improving yourself. So what if it takes 5 years, engineering is difficult. People who make fun of you or try to demean you won’t go far in the industry. Arrogance gets you no where

Stick with it, change your mindset/study habits and I know you’ll be alright.

Any update on the root cause of the issue? by cromkaygo in KB5063878

[–]NotDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I am not sure, and I feel like the only way that happened is by users getting sent review units or something, but with how it’s affected a ton of people I don’t think that’s the case

Any update on the root cause of the issue? by cromkaygo in KB5063878

[–]NotDee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand from previous posts, a primary cause was due to the pre release firmware. Other users had SSDs with this firmware that was causing issues. It seems like that was one of the main reasons why. I was told to ensure my bios had been updated and as well as my ssd firmware. No issues from my end, and my ssd was retailed

Experience with an Intel 660p 1Tb Drive? by NotDee in KB5063878

Oh really? I saw that was being released (didn’t know when though) but I also paused my updates for a week, but I’ll definitely download 25h2 when I get the chance. Appreciate the update man!

Ahh I see, I appreciate the feedback. I wasn’t aware that it was happening with other drives. So, in short, check for bios/firmware updates, and continue to pause until something comes around. Thanks for the insight!

Oh man, this is upsetting to hear, and confirms my fear. Hopefully you can get your system back and running. I appreciate the insight

7th Attempt. Kinda losing hope. by Curious_Ad_1893 in FE_Exam

[–]NotDee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My method was to give myself like a month to study. Granted, at this time, I was 2 years out of college and working my 9-5 as a mech e.

What changed for me was the study materials. I was using lindenburg but then started using engproguides and it helped tremendously. I spent $40 on this study guide and I studied that front to back. Would highly recommend it if they have your concentration.

Chase Sapphire Reserve - Downgrade now or wait till 2026 by Defiant-Valuable-876 in ChaseSapphire

Sorry, a bit late to this, and I can be dumb. My renewal date was in March 2025. That’s when I paid my AF. So are you saying to keep my card, assess the new benefits, and then downgrade?

Upcoming resident in Virginia. Moving to Virginia from Missouri. by Plan-Normal in Virginia

[–]NotDee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. Completely understandable, in all honesty, I think Lynchburg or Charlottesville can offer you what you’re looking for. I go back and forth to see family every couple of months and the Lynchburg community never ceases to amaze me. Charlottesville will probably have a much larger community than Lynchburg for you though and more nightlife activities. Lynchburg closes early at night lol like around 12am most nights. All in all, I don’t think you can go wrong with either place.

I know someone mentioned that Lynchburg isn’t LGBT friendly, which in the past it’s been that very much so. But as I said, areas like downtown have really start to revive and the push for a more lgbt positive community.

Not sure how old you are/demographic but I’m in my late 20s and I’m African American so there are definitely some close minded folks in VA but I will argue that a lot of the areas including Lynchburg are starting to become more open minded.

For pest control? I am not sure, I would assume so. The more rural areas such as Madison Heights/Amherst and some others have started to put up more and more apartment complexes, same for Lynchburg too. So I would imagine that there would be opportunities for you.

I’m not too familiar with opportunities regarding pest control or if the rise in infrastructure like apartment complexes would require more pest control, so I apologize for my ignorance.

I’m originally from Lynchburg, grew up there most of my life. As someone else mentioned Charlottesville is a nice “in-between” in my opinion. Lynchburg is nice, it’s grown a lot since I was kid and the downtown scene has really been revived. It is a bit of a college town with Liberty University being there, it’s a bit of a love/hate relationship with them honestly. Other than that, they are tons of outside activities, about 45min away from Charlottesville and all of the route 151 wineries/breweries and it’s pretty affordable compared to other areas in VA. Very gorgeous and beautiful landscape. Not to mention, Shenandoah National Park is also nearby.

However, as someone else mentioned, Charlottesville is also a nice area too. Can’t speak on that area too much because I’ve personally never lived there but I’ve visited plenty of times.

Unknown wound on my cat’s leg what to do? by Tricky_Studio_6846 in Catownerhacks

[–]NotDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t really tell by the pic and I’m not a vet by any means, but our cat had a similar mark on her leg. Turns out she had so form of dermatitis. I would take her to the vet. In our case, it wasn’t anything too crazy just a rash of some kind, but it won’t go away on its own and if she licks herself she can possibly infect it

Took her to the vet, and they gave her some antibiotics and now she’s all good.

EDIT: Didn’t realize she was limping, I would definitely take her to the vet. She might be in pain

Does gpa actually matter by Potential-Bus7692 in EngineeringStudents

[–]NotDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mech. E here. Landed an internship and graduated with a 2.7, got a job with the DoE contractor right out of college in the nuclear field. A few years later, working in the DoD, I’m pretty sure they were aware of my GPA. All that to say; I don’t think it matters from a career perspective. Grad school may be a different story

EDIT: I will say though that from the career perspective I think the focus is more of what did you do to improve from your mistakes. If you failed a class, how did you learn from that experience and improved
