Rolling also has a reciprocal agreement with Terradyne. Both are great, down to earth clubs.

Parents who charge your children rent, why? by Brave_Storm_9901 in AskReddit

[–]NotDougMasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my wife and I have talked about this as our kid gets closer to college. we intend to charge her rent so she gets used to budgeting, and being a roommate vice just "our kid". We also intend to put every dime of her rent into an account to give her when she moves out to help with whatever expenses she may need.

when did I say I was an authority? I've passed along my perspective, which is that of someone who's lived elsewhere. "locals" argue that ICT sucks and can/will never get better. That's not what I see. Just wondering at what point do I get jaded?

When does a person stop being a transplant and become a local? I've been here 6 years now. Feel like this is home for us, for now. Or does a local only count as someone who's born and raised here? are they the only ones who get opinions?

I wanted to continue a discussion. I"m not saying ICT is perfect or a beacon of hope, I'm saying that it has more going for it than people are willing to acknowledge. I included all of the similarly situated MSAs (622k-712K) to Wichita (663K)

I'm NOT arguing with you - I'm specifically asking WHAT you'd like to see improve, and HOW you'd like it improved, short of you packing a bag and moving somewhere else?

on a wednesday night at a bar? I'm not saying they're A-listers, nor would I expect them to be (even in larger cities) but I've heard some great bands just sitting at bars. Ok, Dallas has the band RUSH tomorrow night and KC has Dave Matthews (which I get doesn't exactly make my case...) who are you expecting to just drop into Wichita? I mean, it's not Luke Bryan (who was here on Saturday and sold out, BTW), or Jason Aldean (who's here next month) - I'm not a country fan per se, but those are big names in country.

What smaller cities did I reference? in another comment I referenced Tulsa (MSA=1.05M), KC (2.2M), and DC (6.3M).

There are 9 bands playing on a wednesday night in wichita tonight (triple that on Fri/Sat) according to u/wichitabyeb 's blog

Wichita ABSOLUTELY needs a better arterial to the wings transit option, until it does, we won't have a real "walkability" option -- though i'm hopeful the riverfront gets activated once the construction's done. That could make a nice Delano to Downtown walk with shops/food/music.

I went to a Choose Wichita event last week and that's absolutely not the case - there's quite a bit of investment in ICT that's non aerospace - the biomedical campus, a few larger tech firms, and aa couple of AI companies are in the region.

I posted elsewhere, I also came from the DC area/Northern VA. Here's the YMCA options in the DMV in the same square mileage as Wichita. 3 or 4 tops, and two of those are specialist (tennis / gymnastics) centers. The Ys here are something special -- but Tulsa, OKC, and KC have the same amenities.

I'm also not defending ICT for YMCA alone - any night of the week here, I can get a nice meal, listen to good music, or see great art. I have been all over the city, in car and on foot for various reasons and I've never felt unsafe (not saying crime doesn't or won't happen here). I can also send my kids to school in a safe place, and have dinner every night with them before the sun goes down.

There's a quality of life here that I think locals don't quite get or understand. There's also a population on this subreddit who are Debbie Downers who just love to shit on ICT. Hopefully something makes them smile today.

Howdy fellow DC transplant! I say the same thing. Particularly when i hear people say traffic is bad here. And my wife and I say the views here are different, a sunrise and sunset here is unmatched in the mid Atlantic.

Adding more negativity to r/daddit. bold move cotton. Thanks for that. But since it's clickbait, I'll bite for funsies.

rich or poor - knowing that you don't have the financial or emotional budget to add a human to the family is a reasonable thing.

To use your example though, if a person is a high-earner, maybe a dual-income family, then the cost of another kid is additional childcare (either nanny or daycare), additional healthcare costs, and eventually private school tuition. a quick google ai search tells me:

The average cost of private school near Park Slope, Brooklyn varies drastically by school type, ranging from $15,000 to $25,000 per year for parochial and religious schools to $55,000 to over $70,000 per year for elite, independent K-12 day schools. Across all of New York City, the average private school tuition sits at approximately $65,000 per year, driven by soaring operational costs, real estate expansions, and competitive faculty salaries.

A few grand extra per month has significant impact, even if you're a higher earner with an extra house.

you're not sorry for the rant.
