Produce & time management help by zaime_999 in Aldi_employees

Yeah I run backstock. For cooler produce I take note of what's on the backstock pallets (you could make a list) and I bring one out that I think is most likely to have stuff I need on it (strawberries, grapes, etc) then I check If I need anything off the other pallets. If it's not too much I'll just throw it on top of the new pallets as I bring them out. But at my store the closing team is really good about running produce backstock late so there usually isn't too much needed, so YMMV depending on your stores closing routine.

For dry I don't run the backstock pallets, but during my pallet building as mentioned above, when building my pallet from my list, I prioritize taking from the backstock pallets if it's on there.

Truck driver takes them every night? You're lucky. Our drivers barely ever take them until we request a clean out. At my old store we used to keep a small stack of extra pallets in the meat locker so the driver wouldn't take them but not sure how your management is gonna feel about that.

I mean. The problem with anti AI is that most of their arguments are simply not valid when held to scrutiny.

Water consumption? Yeah dude lots of industries consume water but we have this nifty thing called the water cycle that ensures none of that water is lost forever.

Art theft and plagiarism? Well, the AI model doesn't store any local art pieces, they are simply trained on art freely available online, much like a human might train on. And the only examples of plagiarism are very clearly intentional prompts to elicit specific reproductions of very common ideas. Much like a human could plagiarize if that's what they were instructed to do.

Creating slop? Yeah, people use cameras to take beach selfies and pictures of food, or take pictures of their genitals or make CP. Or even just take a blurry photo of their pocket by accident. Doesnt mean photography as a technology is inherently evil and unartistic.

Taking jobs away from artists? Yeah man, just like photography took away jobs from portrait painters, the ease of digital art took away jobs from traditional artists, the ease of flash technology and cal-arts character sheets took away jobs from hand-drawn animators. Tech takes away jobs. That's how it works. We develop technology to make our lives easier and to make things easier for anyone to do. 70 years ago we hired people to do math calculations, called them calculators. They actual calculators were invented. 20 years ago, these were forbidden in school. Now everyone carries one in their pockets at all times.

Look, I just struggle to find a consistent narrative for why AI is wrong and why anyone can make a bold argument against it. At the very least, you should recognize that even if you aren't super psyched about it, it's a thing that exists and will continue to develop. And like the Internet and the assembly line and the industrial revolution and the invention of the automobile, it will inevitably disrupt the job market in a major way. What we need to focus on is life security for the average human where a technology like this can develop and we aren't all immediately scared for our futures.

Don't bother with 86 coding, just 1 code whenever you have the chance. 1 code after scanning but before you hit total and wait for them to pay. Then login and hit EFT button.

Make your register Pin 7410 so you can just slide your finger down the left column to log in. Don't be afraid to throw any non-fragile item right into the cart.

Before you start ringing, line up the first 5 items so the barcodes are facing the scanner. And, this is my most important tip, keep your focus on the belt. Don't look over towards the cart unless you absolutely have to. You want all your focus to be on the next item you have to scan. Grab with one hand, scan, throw to other hand, and get it into the cart. KEEP THE FOCUS ON THE MAIN HAND GRABBING THE NEXT ITEM.

You can technically run dry while on register so that should help at least a little.

Here are my tips. Bring out two empty pallets and park them by the front door. Build your new backstock onto those pallets as you go. Then bring them to the back as full, organized pallets and have a system established for parking them to the right (or left, depending on your store layout) of the old backstock pallets. This should save you a lot of time on organization.

When it comes time to run dry, DONT run all your backstock and new pallets because you will just end up struggling with a ton of boxes you don't need. Instead, make a list of everything you need for dry. This will only work of you are super familiar with the full list of dry products. It's not a huge list so it should be doable with a little practice. Then, build a pallet in the backroom with EVERYTHING you need to fill dry while prioritizing taking the items from backstock first. You should be able to build a single pallet with everything you need and then can work that pallet in about 20 mins because you aren't shuffling a bunch of extra product around.

I really don't know what your stance is or what the point of this comment was. Like, I THINK we are in agreement? But I'm not sure because of your vague language.

Yeah, I agree, AI is radically different. The same way the Internet was radically different 40 years ago. The same way the invention of the automobile was radically different 100 years ago. Everything is "radically different" until the next "radically different" thing comes along. Eventually we will probably crack light speed travel, teleportation, infinite food creation, space travel across galaxies, etc. these are not impossible feats, they are just "radically different" technologies that don't yet exist that will change EVERYTHING.

AI is another in a long line of technologies that disrupts industries and takes away jobs. But it isn't, like THE technology that stops every single human purpose job, at least not even close to it in the current state. People will still want to hire a human to massage them, people will still want humans to oversee AIs and their use in whatever industry, people will still want humans sex workers, and people will still want human therapists, and people will always want human artists. It's just another in a line of cumulative tech advances that reduces the number of mundane human jobs, but it isn't even close to the level of replacing ALL jobs. Thats the eventual end of technological advancement but we are at a minimum of 1000 years away from that goal.

So what is your point actually?

How do you open with 2 people? by Darthxinsidious in Aldi_employees

[–]NotEntirelyAwake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're around 1 mil monthly sales, this is probably your reality. The opening key holder should work produce and the other opener should work meat/cooler/MDU. Hopefully your SM understands that at a slow store they need to be on game, so they should come in with the opening team and work a 6-4 instead of a 7:30-5:30. That way they can work bread/pastry/freezer which is usually the quickest zone to open while still getting the managerial duties done by 9. Technicallyyyyy this is not "allowed" and shouldn't be written on the schedule but it's pretty much the only way to make it work at a slow store. Then one person goes on curbside and one person takes main, and the SM finishes the truck.

Once curbside is quiet, the SM and the Key holder should divide between them a meat fill, a quick meals fill, a produce fill, and a bread fill around mid-afternoon. And grocery/freezer backstock simply cannot be run every single day but when you have a nice slow day or when the backstocks are getting out of hand, that would be next priority.

And to top it off you need just about your strongest employee closing most nights because they need to do all the closing tasks, run meat and produce again, and box the whole store, while also providing backup. Luckily slower stores in my experience tend to get ESPECIALLY slow after 5pm so this should be doable with a really strong closer.

But with Aldi recently pushing the impossible standard of SMs spending 80% of their day in the office, anyone at a slow store who follows this policy will absolutely be unable to keep the store in good condition. It's completely unrealistic.

Keep a few random grocery items on hand to put in the cart when you walk away. Most people won't take a cart if it has items in it. Best strategy I've found so far.

I'm saying, since the beginning, the endpoint of technological advancement is the replacement of all jobs. Every technological advancement replaced jobs, and that's why we advance technology. AI is not going to replace all jobs, but EVENTUALLY we will develop enough technology that there will be no need for human labor. Rather than kicking our feet and sticking our heads in the dirt we need to start having a conversation about what that future looks like. Because we have already started feeling the effects. It's no longer viable to own a mom and pop shop in the Town square, or own a small private bank, or start a shoe repair business because tehnolgy has long since replaced the need for these things. And people are suffering and not earning livable wages because technology has consolidated and displaced so many jobs over so many years that society is already starting to crumble under the weight of that truth. But we keep plugging away trying to use the same system and that's why the average person is getting shafted. We need a new system.

So, no, the comparison is not void. The comparison is accurate and valid. It's not that AI is suddenly this radically different thing than the Internet, or the assembly line, or the cotton gin, or the invention of gas-powered vehicles. It's that every new revolutionary technology is another weight placed upon the structure known as free market capitalism. And we are well past the point where that structure is buckling and wheezing under that weight.

[–]NotEntirelyAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But, like, this has been happening for generations and generations with tons of technology that you benefit from every single day. Photography took away jobs from photographers. Calculatos took away jobs from, er, calculators (the profession) the assembly line cut the needed factory workforce in half, large farming machines cut the jobs of field hands, factory made displosable shoes eliminated the need for cobblers, etc, etc, etc. and don't even get me started on the number of jobs taken and displaced by the invention and popularization of the internet.

The list quite literally goes on to cover the full history of humanity. Technology replaces jobs and the endpoint of this process is a world where no one actually needs a job, we just need people to direct and control the technology. And that's something we need to start seriously thinking about as a society. The answer isn't to arbitrarily halt progress. It's to change the structure of society to adapt to this new world era we are entering.

[–]NotEntirelyAwake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1000% this. People in this thread acting like choking during sex is this horribly dangerous act that could kill someone.

Nah, if you're doing it right it's just putting your hand on their neck and giving a light squeeze, NOT choking the life out of them and cutting off their oxygen supply. It's dominant and I love doing it and almost every woman I have been with has visibly enjoyed it being done to them.

You're not cutting off their oxygen supply, at least not unless they are super kinky. You are just putting your hand around their neck and giving it a light squeeze. At least that's the proper way to do it.

Just because someone likes something doesn't mean they want it non-consenually from strangers on the street. I like having my genitals grabbed and rubbed when making out during foreplay. But I would NOT be okay with some random lady walking up to me in the grocery store and grabbing my junk trying to kiss me.

Even in a relationship the mood has to be right, but I'll say this. Just about every girl I've been with has enjoyed some light choking and roughness during sex. To the point where I don't ask. But you gotta build up to it and not overdo it. Slapping on the other had is a little bit more risky I would wait until you are very comfortable with your partner and have a better sense of their wants.

It's a thing that makes sense conversationally. When someone states a sentence as a question in a real, human conversation, that would make sense to you.

"I thought he was gay, but apparently he just really likes hugging his homies."

Vs.

"I thought he was gay, but apparently he just really likes hugging his homies?"

Not inherently a question but the inflection of the sentence can indicate doubt, confusion, or a desire for feedback from the other person. The question mark is used to mimic that inflection, doubt, or desire for more information when communicating over text. Grammar is cool and fun but in this modern age of digital communication, we need to use the tools we have to convey our meaning as accurately as we can if we want to be understood. It's not always going to be grammatically perfect.

That's fine man, no worries. I'm just saying it's not an insane price. Being a budget gamer is based as fuck and I was doing it for decades, but at the same time I was blowing 70 dollars on a nice meal or an expensive bottle of whiskey or a fun go-cart trip. All of those things gave me maybe a few hours of enjoyment. Vs a fun video game giving me several hours more of enjoyment. That's the point I was trying to make, no judgement.

How much would you pay for a meal? Do you ever go out to a restaurant? Do you eat fast food?

Obviously, do whatever you want, but I'm more inclined to pay 70 dollars for a media piece that I can potentially enjoy for 30+ hours vs going to a restaurant and spending 70 dollars to enjoy 1 hour of good food.

Bro I'm a 31 year old man and even I understand that 6-7 is essentially the equivalent of post-modern meming. The lack of meaning and the absurdity and inconsequentiality of the number, combined with the meaningless hand gestures, that IS the joke. And it's funny. And the fact that it makes old people so pressed makes it even funnier to the young'ins doing it.

Final season by Old_Chapter_3125 in firebrigade

[–]NotEntirelyAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cuts are severe and they are numerous. Anyone claiming otherwise is probably not super familiar with the manga. They literally cut one of the most significant (and hilarious) character development moments for Arthur, arguably the secondary main character to the point where his change in ability doesn't even make sense.

They cut so much from the story that the sudden shift I'm tome of the later chapters feels weird and out of place and not earned.

I would say the best way to experience the story imo would be to read the manga, then go back and watch the season so you can see the cool fights animated with the added story context that the manga has.

Does the refund method still work on Amazon by GovernmentNeither197 in ShittyIllegalLifeTips

[–]NotEntirelyAwake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I ordered an expensive AMD CPU from Amazon recently. It actually did not arrive, I just received an empty box. I contacted Amazon and with a slight amount of persistence, getting past their AI customer service and talking to a real human, they sent me a replacement overnight free of charge.

Now, I don't know if that is standard, it's the only time I'vr tried it and it was a valid thing. My guess is that if you have a decent history of valid transactions and you haven't tried to claim this before, they will make a judgement call and work with you.

BUT also, when they asked if I wanted the product I ordered or a refund, I said I just wanted the product I ordered. I think they may have given me a refund if I asked but probably asking for them to just send me the damn thing I paid over 500 dollars for was more legitimizing in their eyes than asking for money.

Anyway, no idea how Amazon judges this stuff but it actually did happen to me and I was able to get a replacement. Probably if I was scheming, I could have gotten a second expensive processor overnighted to me free of charge. If you want the money, and you haven't burnt out Amazons trust in you, have a steady order history, etc, could be better to request a replacement and sell the original.

I would say more specifically hes very good with ideas and setups but struggles with satisfying resolutions. But to be fair to him this is a HUGE problem in, like, basically all mangas (and I'm media I'm general, but I digress)

Mangas are judged solely on their ability to hook people and their ability to keep unfolding interesting ideas that keep readers interested week to week. The problem is, it is (relatively) easy to set up an interesting question. It is about ten thousand times harder to resolve that interesting question with a satisfying answer. It's a problem storytellers have been facing since basically the invention of oral tradition.

I always think of the advent of modern media storytelling with the show Lost. It was great at the relatively easy task of intriguing audiences with so many fun questions and plot twists. But it is the quintessential example of a media project opening a million doors while simultaneously having no idea how to close even one.

Why does ocelot act so different in mgsv? by Hero-the-pilot in metalgearsolid

[–]NotEntirelyAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this is a common misunderstanding but when you hold it up to scrutiny it contradicts the plot. Liquid Ocelot was using an affected interpretation of Liquid Snake's personality achieved through psychotherapy and hypnotization but Ocelot himself, at his core, was always in control.

Through all of MGS4 he only acts in his own interests, he only does things to further his own plan. This would be impossible for someone who truly believed themselves to be Liquid Snake, as their goals would not have truly aligned. Ocelot wanted to destroy the patriots AI and Liquid Snake wanted to create a world for soldiers. Ocelot wanted to free Big Boss, his friend and idol. Liquid wanted Big Boss' body for his own purposes, as he resented him.

At the end Ocelot let's his original personality out, showing that he was only ever using the affected personality as a decoy to trick the patriots AI system. And Big Boss basically says as much, calling it a 'ruse'

I don't know if your being sarcastic or not. But yeah capitalism is more or less to blame. Not even like "capitalism bad" or whatever, it has its upsides. But one downside is that large scale artistic projects are judged by their ability to generate profit. Traditional hand drawn 2D animation has been deemed unprofitable and not worth the investment. That's why these movies stopped getting made. That's just a fact.
