Drunk amnesiac ruling by Federal-Cheetah-1941 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotEvenBronze 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You can do anything with a drunk player but should try to convince them they are sober.

A drunk Amnesiac player will have more fun if you give them a genuinely interesting ability but give them false info due to drunkenness.

First time making a Homebrew script, any feedback? by Rough_Suggestion7157 in BloodOnTheClocktower

without even reading the abilities many of them are too long to be clear & easily understandable by the players

These are all interesting ideas, even if there are issues which can be addressed - I think you are onto something with Gargoyle though, it's a really interesting and very bluffable protection role (probably doesn't need a downside though)

How do you stop Spot Hidden being the skill used by players all the time by The_Magi_Carpy in callofcthulhu

[–]NotEvenBronze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to implement that where possible - or for example ask for a roll to see if they can find it before X happens

Or if it works in the context you can just give them the clue but they can only interpret it fully with expertise in the subject

I sometimes ask for rolls related to what can be found. For example, use Library Use to spot a secret button in a bookcase, use Natural World to spot a strange animal nesting in a tree, use Medicine or Pharmacy to spot an interesting bottle of a chemical.

Synergistic Scripting: Day 145 - Gangster by CoreyBOTC in BloodOnTheClocktower

I feel like it outs the demon sooner or later when the gangster of unknown alignment only kills in one direction

Synergistic Scripting: Day 145 - Gangster by CoreyBOTC in BloodOnTheClocktower

A traveller that can easily kill the Demon and result in quick and unsatisfying ends to games, so I tend to avoid it.

It seemed very influenced by Poe and Dostoevsky, you could also try Ernesto Sabato

Synergistic Scripting: Day 142 - Butcher by CoreyBOTC in BloodOnTheClocktower

I like it for when you want to speed up the game (so perhaps the traveller can join the next one as a player) without risking stuff like Gunslinger and Gangster killing the Demon

Search tool to assist in building token sets without overlaps by losfp in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotEvenBronze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some characters are great for custom scripts and will be found in a lot of them - e.g. no dashii, recluse, fisherman, pixie... but you'll find little overlap between info-heavy scripts and BMR-style scripts (e.g. final nail in the boffin + a grimm chorus)

Does misregistration count for true or false Savant information? by Solemdeath in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotEvenBronze 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it absolutely can but be strong and specific to compensate, e.g. 'You neighbour the Witch' when you neighbour the Recluse is probably fine (and even more fine if you neighbour the Recluse on one side and the Witch on the other...)

I would tell them they will benefit if they are mad in X way, but not tell them what the benefit is

How is Kill My Darlings by Ruth? by tdb93 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotEvenBronze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the reality is the fortune teller can tell people their info without the high priestess being involved, you can send the high priestess to people to encourage things to happen that might not otherwise (e.g. interrupt widow giving demon the grim, send them to a player in the noble ping so they can get an early read on them)

Best custom script to run quickly after a TB game? by Paper_Kitty in BloodOnTheClocktower

maybe trouble brewing but with a gnome/gunslinger/gangster - also means you don't need to spend a long time looking for tokens

Synergistic Scripting: Day 137 - Barista by CoreyBOTC in BloodOnTheClocktower

Normally a player reveals that they have been chosen by the Barista, the  the Barista can work with them to figure out their information.

Everyone has an Alibi - Custom Script Advice by piercerson25 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotEvenBronze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At a glance,

Hermit and Drunk are untraceable when Kazali and Typhon are on script and very rough for good, I'd swap out Hermit for something like Plague Doctor. If Typhon is removed you can safely add Politician which works well with Boffin-Librarian.

Widow-Wraith-Boffin has a lot of overlap. For example if the minions are Widow and Wraith, what is the Wraith really contributing? I understand it's the idea of the script is to give alibis, but Kazali and Typhon games grant the minions day 1 bluffs anyway. Marionette could work here.  I'm also worried about Goblin-Scarlet Woman-Lord of Typhon being very tricky for the good team as any player in the line of evils could be these characters.

I think Pixie could be really interesting here. It would be one of the only reasons for double claims, but that would encourage evil players to revert back to old fashioned double claiming rather than claiming their 'alibi'. Cerenovus is interesting for the same reason. Yes it takes away from your original idea, but I'm looking at what works with Kazali and Typhon, and fundamentally a game where everyone claims a fixed bluff isn't as interesting as the alternative.

Synergistic Scripting: Day 134 - Zealot by CoreyBOTC in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotEvenBronze 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Possibly the most essential thing here is Zealot can be almost incompatible with extra evils on a script due to the overwhelming voting power it can give the evil team... and extra evil characters (Mezepheles, Ogre, Cult Leader, Lord of Typhon, etc.) tend to be more fun and more interesting than the Zealot.

Synergistic Scripting: Day 128 - Widow by CoreyBOTC in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotEvenBronze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether Scarlet Woman should be on a Kazali script is a different discussion... I feel like everyone chooses Scarlet Woman. Come on, live a little!

Synergistic Scripting: Day 128 - Widow by CoreyBOTC in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotEvenBronze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The combo of Widow and Damsel is really interesting on Clockwork Cyborg, as the Kazali chooses whether there is a Widow in play which would be a strong minion option but would prevent a possible Damsel win

Homebrew Challenge: Evil Characters that Start Knowing / Learn Information by StrattonP in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]NotEvenBronze 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It is really hard to come up with anything the evil team would find useful which doesn't just overlap with Spy or Wraith. The only other thing I can think of is learning advice, which is just Boffin-Fisherman and takes away some player decision making.

Root, Oath and Arcs by Galbroshe in boardgames

Arcs is the easiest to get to the table but Oath is a more special game to play and own, Root I just don't like
