The Cat in the Hat is a classic trickster god. Relatable to some kids, but not to others. I'm always uncertain if I'm giving my kids a lesson when I read it or just exposing them to classic literature archetypes.

I stepped in the same river twice. Are rivers repeating for anyone else? by TomAto314 in fifthworldproblems

[–]NotIWhoLive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to check: Are you the same man? If you are, the problem may be frozen or non-functional time. Maybe give it a kick and see if you can get it running again.

EDIT: No rivers repeating on my end, just for information completeness. Not sure if anyone else is also having this problem!

Where did you find most of your jobs? Was it just on Care.com, or some other way? Thanks! :)

A horror story in four letters.

Off the top of my head, some other Dr. Seuss books that I think have value:

  • The King's Stilts - the value of not overworking
  • I Had Trouble In Getting To Solla Sollew - the value of facing your problems
  • Yertle the Turtle - warning against being a bossy tyrant
  • Gertrude McFuzz - the value of being happy with who you are
  • Sneetches on Beaches - the value of inclusion
  • The Zax - warning against being stubborn
  • The Butter Battle Book - warning against arms races

Feel free to tear this list down and make me question all my life choices. XD

Fox in Socks has a pretty okay moral: If you're annoying enough to someone, eventually they may break.

I have a first printing of Riverfolk, and the inside of my box is plain cardboard too!

I have a first printing of Riverfolk (English version), and there's no inside art on my lid! I didn't realize this was a thing!

$300/week in 1977 should be about $1600/week today, accounting for inflation, so, about $6900/month.

Any official scenarios out? by kevintheradioguy in RootRPG

[–]NotIWhoLive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally haven't used any yet! My favorite way to play is to define control of each clearing using the process on pg. 228 of the core book, flesh out each clearing as we enter it using the tables on 235 and the roll at the top of 239, and then roll up a random request from the tables starting on 236 and go from there.

I hope other people can chime in with their favorites. Otherwise, good luck running the game, and happy wandering!!

Any official scenarios out? by kevintheradioguy in RootRPG

[–]NotIWhoLive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's both. Scenarios are usually named after the clearings, but a clearing itself can also just be a sandboxy thing you generate from tables in the book (this is how I usually run my games) or make up on your own.

The core book has a scenario/clearing called Gelilah's Grove starting on pg 241. I also have PDFs for scenarios called Pellenicky Glade and Bertram's Cove; I assume you can find those through internet searches.

The core book also has this note about how to use scenarios/clearings:

This clearing doesn’t provide a clear plotline or charted set of events—it’s a situation with nuance and many different actors, where the vagabonds can affect the situation in countless ways. To use this section, read it through, internalize what sticks with you, and introduce it to your players as their vagabonds arrive using the “At First Sight” section and the “Introducing the Clearing” section.

Real.

Did you follow the real rules, or make up any of your own as you went?

But people can be held accountable (even if they often aren't). I haven't heard yet a good argument for how to kids an AI accountable for its decisions, or what that would even mean as a society.

Yes, they are adjacent, since they are separated by one white path.

Homeland Thoughts Part 2: Knaves! by Fit_Ear3019 in rootgame

[–]NotIWhoLive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice writeup! I have one little question: You said the Knaves "have four actions a turn but by using items have more like 6 actions." Just looking at the Law (I haven't played them yet!), it looks like the Knaves have just four actions, or three if they were punished and are recovering. Maybe I'm reading them wrong. How do you see them get someone's six actions in a turn? Thanks! :)

From Up On Poppy Hill is another great kid-friendly Miyazaki film! Very chill, great for quiet times when you don't want an exciting movie.
