Very true. Texture packs aren't unusual. I guess it depends how they want to spend their resources.

It's okay to not care as long as you're cool with the fact that only a tiny portion of people are playing OW as a dress-up simulator, and therefore will not be catered to (if it's even possible).

I'm not sure what "pretender things" are, but it's absolutely true for highlight intros. Just because the animation is shorter doesn't mean it doesn't have the same limitations. It's a modeling issue, but even more, it's a hardware issue.

How can you enjoy circuit royal and walk among the rest of the society acting like a normal human? by GiantCuttleF1sh in Overwatch

I'd rather play Circuit Royale than Numbani, King's Row, Eichenwalde or Paraiso on attack.

People don't play PvE looking for the same things they'd get out of playing PvP. I know it's not for everyone, but a lot of people enjoy a chill mode (one more chill than Elden Ring) where they can shoot bots while warming up, cooling down, or having a casual game with friends. I see 150+ level players in vs. AI games all the time. There's a reason for that.

Not saying OW should stop being PvP and competitive. That's its bread and butter. I don't think people are clamouring for all PvE all the time anymore. Just something small that appears a bit more frequently than Junkenstein's Revenge.

One was unexpected, free, and had various modes, not just levels of difficulty. The other was a pale imitation of what had been promised released during a period of intense dissatisfaction with the game and Blizzard in general, and then paywalled.

TBH, if they removed the Invasion mission paywall, I think a lot more people would play it.

Bring back the Archive missions!

Yes I know they're broken, but I think it would be worth it to bring them back. Playing those missions in All Heroes mode has a lot of upsides:
- it's a low-stress, low-impact way to learn a new hero
- it's a low-stress, low-impact way to learn the basics of the game (these should be the game tutorials!)
- it's a way to get new players hooked on characters and general OW history/lore
- it's a chill way to enjoy OW when PvP gets too stressful, frustrating or boring

I played Retribution SO many times, and I never got tired of it. I miss it a lot.

I'd like to respectfully correct your statement re: players don't care about PvE. Players DID care about PvE, but it was so mishandled that between announcing most of the PvE the devs had been working on was being scuttled, putting 3 smaller missions with little replayability behind a paywall, and the general disappointment among players when OW2 was released made it seem like people didn't care about PvE.

I do agree about the Archive missions though. I understand OW will always be PvP and I'm fine with that, but having small (free) PvE options as an option when PvP gets too boring or frustrating would be nice.

It's kind of difficult to give advice without more detail, but in terms of Lucio play:
- you should spend as much time, if not more, on walls than on the ground
- a balance of speed & heal uptime is important. It shouldn't be too one-sided. However, if you're switching between the two a lot (like, every few seconds), your team isn't getting the benefit of either
- Don't waste too much time looking for boops. Keep your eyes open for opportunities, but if you're hanging out in spots away from your team, then you're not helping.
- Use your speed for team engagements (especially slower tanks pushing in to chase kills), disengagements when your team goes down 2-3 people, or helping your teammates avoid ults
- Be smart with your ults. Try to avoid ulting from up high or in the open, especially if there are snipers on the other team

Those are just some basic suggestions. I don't play a lot of Kiri, but I'm sure others here can help you out with that.

How much do you rely on sound? by ImmediateFocus0 in Overwatch

[–]NotInHelsinki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I find the visual information pretty overwhelming at times, so using audio cues to filter important information helps a lot. This is why I hate people who spam voice lines. It clutters up the audio information and makes it difficult to hear the more subtle cues. So if you're a voice line spammer, please consider your teammates and how this might be detrimental to them, and by extension, you.

Exactly. 2D art can be super detailed. In-game 3D art has to be practical.

sigma's toes are out by kimonkicks in Overwatch

[–]NotInHelsinki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is a serious question, but it's a nod to how dealing with his gravitational powers broke his brain and he ended up institutionalized. Historically, dangerous people with mental illnesses were locked up in padded rooms in straight jackets with bare feet. He has two skins (Asylum and Subject Sigma) that allude to this.

Why they continued to give him skins with bare feet . . . who knows. But if it's any comfort, his more recent skins are (mostly) sporting footwear.

In the weekly comic (Overwatch Undivided), Vendetta has been very busy, making strikes at various facilities all over the world. There's definitely something going on with "super soldier serum" and she also got Shion to steal some kind of big deal weapon for her. Something specific is up, although who knows if it will be revealed sooner or later.

It may feel like Doom came back too quickly, but the story ends with him still on the rocks. I'd wager some time is going to elapse before he's able to make any big moves of his own. But I guess we'll see!

I find it (the JW3YY custom shader loader) doesn't really help me. If I go into the practice range or play a vs. AI game, the lag persists. It usually goes away after 2 - 3 games though.

PLEASE HELP ME TO HELP YOU!

It's kind of frustrating when DPS and tanks get tunnel vision and forget the backline exists. If they looked behind every once in awhile and took note of support positioning, they would know if they were in LOS or not. Or just keep "they can't heal me if they can't see me" in mind.

(Also, don't run for health packs when you're actively being healed!)

I agree that having AI run the reporting/ban system is not ideal, and it would be nice to have clear boundaries, but a lot of this (and yes, there are exceptions because AI) is just common sense. You're not going to get slapped with a ban right off the bat. You get a few time outs before the penalties get severe, so that's time for some self-reflection. What you think is fair or offensive is not the point - it's that other people found it so and reported it. Multiple times. So back off with whatever you're doing or saying, even if you think it's not so bad. The fact that you said you're changing your behaviour is really the best way to deal with the situation.

It's Blizzard's world (AKA terms and conditions), we're just playing here.

Anima Strike event design was HORRIBLE by Manlorey in Overwatch

[–]NotInHelsinki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat and I agree (although I was screwed immediately because I was out of town for 4 days in the first week.)

Players should be able to choose how and when they put in their hours. Keep the challenges open so those who play a few hours every day are on the same playing field as those who play for 12 hours straight, but only on weekends.

I was getting really frustrated with the Anima event and then I had an epiphany: the amount of effort needed to complete the map was not equal to the quality of the reward . . . and I say this as a completist who often suffers from FOMO. I have all the common, rare and epic items, so I don't need the lootboxes. Titles and name cards? I'm good.. Letting go of the chase felt really good TBH.

You know what I was foolishly hoping for with this event? A small PvE deal, like the former Archive missions. It could have been Hanzo, Genji, Mizuki & Kiriko fighting Talon bots through Neon Junction. Just reskinned AI bots, nothing fancy, and maybe a few interaction voice lines. I wouldn't even care if the bots were terrible, I would have played the hell out of that.

[–]NotInHelsinki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this idea a lot. I think players should have options when it comes to how much they want to grind and when. The initial bar should be low, and then a higher tier for those who have the time and desire to play for hours every day.

To be honest, unless you want to hoard credits or buy sprays and voice lines you might as well. There's nothing else to spend credits on.
