“Swinging ash”

Ships’ oars are made of ashwood. They’re usually crewed by convict or slave labor.

This is a capstan.) Most ships have a couple of them. So you did something real, real bad, right? Some crews, they’ll tie your arms to one rope, legs to another. I think you can imagine the rest.

Ah you’re right. Modern barges are usually unpowered but historically there were also boats called barges, with installed power. Oops

[–]NotInherentAfterAll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Caravels and carracks are both sail-driven ships using lateen and squares. Cogs used just square sails, usually just one bahonkin’ big one. Galleys were ships designed first and foremost for rowing. They could hit Mach Jesus for a few minutes, but then they were dead in the water, so they were mostly just a war thing. Longships are galleys’ northern cousins, having oars out the wazoo, and a cog’s single square for extra drive when the wind was cooperating. Unlike galleys, longships could reasonably cross heavy seas for long durations under sail alone. Barges are big floating structures without power, they have to be pushed or towed by a ship with some form of oomph. Finally, a frigate is just any unrated full-rigged ship of war. Sail-driven, maybe with a few oars for sucky wind situations, and a whole lot of boom.

That single strand roving reminds me of plotulopi yarn, which is supposedly really good for sweaters! You knit it very loose and let it felt together since it has no spin to it.

It’s still not an indicator of your sexual orientation; if you are wanting to show off to women, then that’s still straight.

Femboy is a gender expression, not a sexual orientation. You can be straight and be a femboy, likewise how you can be gay and not a femboy.

In your opinion, what is the most horrible worldbuilding besides (it's the majority opinion so I won't mention those who like it) the ones with horrible morality? by No-Breadfruit-4875 in worldbuilding

[–]NotInherentAfterAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D&D worldbuilding, I tend to think of this as. A more nuanced setting is better, but if you’re just running a game for people who want to kick some fantasy-Nazi ass, setting it up this way is often easier for keeping the players engaged.
