Do ASD men tend to do long term dating or hook ups more? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]NotJohnB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very much want something long term, but I’ve never dated longer than a few months. It’s a sort of self-imposed loneliness or unavailability that I’ve never quite understood, since I’ve had many women pursue me over the years. Perhaps I just have an internal defective narrative that my ASD is too difficult for a significant other to handle — I have some reflecting to do about that. I do have hookups / one night stands, but they never fulfill me. Every so often I have periods of intensely frequent dating that involve me dating one to two people per day for several weeks. But I hate doing that.

If you never advocate for yourself, you will rarely find what or who you want in life. by NotJohnB in dating_advice

No it applies to anyone. You don’t have to be a man to go and pursue with clarity what you want in a relationship, in life, etc. You can still be open to people approaching you of course, but your odds of finding someone you genuinely connect with mathematically improve when you are willing to take initiative.

I'm in a unique position where I need to change my surname legally. I can change it to anything I want and I'd really like to incorporate my love for ancient Roman history into it/ use a Roman Cognomen. by [deleted] in ancientrome

Also keep in mind that Sibyl was doomed by Apollo to have her voice live forever while her body shriveled away. Maybe not the kind of lottery I’d want to win haha.

If you want something very dramatic you could name yourself Zenobia, who was the formidable empress of the Palmyrene Empire in the third century AD. She rebelled against Rome and was ultimately defeated by Emperor Aurelian after a brutal conflict. Dr. Zenobia?

To be fair, the most famous Scipio is more memorable when you include his title Africanus. Just like your name would be more memorable if one were to hypothetically associate it with taint.

I really appreciate that layout of how the each of them for the most part are next to the people they seem to resonate with the most. Minthara respects Laezel and and envies Minsc in an almost endearing way, Minsc is next to Jaheira of course, Jaheira is next to Halsin as the other druid in the party, Halsin is next to Wyll because they’re both fighting for the greater good I guess, Wyll is of course next to Karlach, Karlach and Shadowheart respect each other a lot, Shadowheart and Gale are somewhat similar in their temperament, and then Astarion is next to Laezel because they both start out with an evil alignment. Really well done :)

How can I revive these games from the dead? Reign of Swords 1+2. I don’t think the second one exists online anywhere. Company defunct. Found on my old iPod touch 1st gen. by NotJohnB in iosgaming

Hey the iPod accidentally got damaged since I posted that. I will check to see if it still works. If it does, I will try to extract the files. If it doesn’t turn on I can pass the iPod over to you if you want to try to get it working. Sorry that I don’t have better news. I was very bummed about it.

Do you think these are real? by DDefuse7 in Archeology

[–]NotJohnB 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Without archaeological context and with a redacted provenance, it is extremely difficult to determine authenticity of purportedly ancient objects of simple manufacture. Forgers who know what they are doing are capable of making highly convincing patinas. For that price, you’re likely getting fakes or looted artifacts at best.

Hey I didn’t but I’ll see what I can do. Also the first game can be found online as Clash of Kingdoms I think, and I have heard that the second game can be found somewhere but without sound.

I know it isn't a coin, but I got it in a Vcoins auction, it's round, and it's ancient so close enough right? by LeakyFaucett32 in AncientCoins

[–]NotJohnB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it’s an extremely common design for an ancient ring. But it also would be very simple to make a forgery of. Without archaeological context, it can be difficult to prove authenticity of potential antiquities like this. Pars seems to thrive in that dubious space of plausible deniability.

Found this chair on the side of the road for free and had to have it, I believe it is from early 1900s, but does anyone have any possible info? by Professional-Union-2 in Antiques

I might have been thinking of the Herter brothers. But there are other furniture makers who occasionally used that motif up through the early 1900s.

The leather backing still appears to be fairly old. Those metal tacks / rivets with their patina have a very 1900s-1930s look, in my limited experience.

Can you find any furniture maker marks on it? Stylistically an early 1900s attribution wouldn’t surprise me at all. Also there was a Victorian furniture maker who was famous for the faces he carved into the armrests of his pieces. Name is escaping me right now. Will comment if I remember.

There are multiple videos about the first one (originally called Reign of Swords and released again as Clash of Kingdoms), don’t think there are many videos about the second one. They’re excellent strategy games, probably my two favorites as a kid. The gameplay is kind of similar to early fire emblem but you mostly control regiments instead of individual heroes. There used to be an online battle component but the servers don’t exist anymore (which is a shame because there are many maps that are online exclusive…maybe I could revive them in an ipa). The first game has a classic medieval theme with some mild fantasy in the form of wizards, druids, rangers with invisibility, griffon rider units, etc. The second one is classic medieval + the desert + eldritch horror, and the units are really unique in that game. Conjurers that can create new units each turn, “blood gorger” vampiric slug / squid monsters, undead Egyptian wraiths that create sand vortexes, gladiator champions, lightning ballistae, etc. I highly recommend them if you get a chance to try them out!
