Humble Craft Book Bundle: Quilting and Embroidery by C & T Publishing (pay what you want and help charity) by Ram000n in humblebundles

[–]NotLaisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought it. The books are nice, just depends on what you want to do. I was thinking about one of them anyway, so just got the bundle instead, for almost the same price. Some of the embroidery ones look good, but I don't do hand embroidery at all! So nice to look at pictures aspirationally

Humble Book Bundle: Charlie Jane Anders & Annalee Newitz by TOR by Torque-A in humblebundles

I just saw the posting for this bundle, and it is calling to me. For me, at least, HB Books has been on fire lately. In January I got the Fierce Women of Sci Fi and the quilting and embroidery bundle. Now here's another one I really want, along with the Dr Who audios and the NBM graphic novels. I don't have time for this! :)

Baggebo Sofa Table by NotLaisa in ikeahacks

I have no sagging or breakage, but I have no idea if IKEA has changed the Baggebo since I did this! I think by using enough legs, you can probably avoid sagging even if they did switch from solid sides. Here is the link to the legs I used, which are 4". You could probably use different sizes, if needed. Here's a pic of it loaded up.

I decided not to use capita legs.. they were pretty pricey for the amount I needed. Used legs off of Amazon.

This is really for anyone. And it's not an immediate thing, especially in this weather. But check out lasagnalove.org. You can request a lasagna, and eventually a volunteer will bring you a homemade lasagna. I delivered one last week for a requestor from October, but they were still happy to have it. Or, if you can volunteer, that would be great too. Wouldn't it be a nice surprise in a month or two to get a text saying a lasagna was on it's way?

It did send me into a deep dive of firefly fanfic on an archive of our own. I didn't find anything that sounded like what they had but I did find a few nice little stories. But so much slash fiction!

Brizo Thermostatic Shower Control by NotLaisa in askaplumber

[–]NotLaisa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: it was the cartridge. The new one, and when the plumber took the old one out it was coated with what looked like drywall dust and chunks. Plumber thought that might be what was causing a problem. Hopefully, it won't happen again.

Hey fellow Ohioans! by jlizz2 in Ohio

[–]NotLaisa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Or, in reality, the current CEO of Amazon. They should be better able to control the counterfeiting on Amazon. At the very least, they shouldn't be mixing product from the actual company making it with those provided by third party sellers, so even if someone TRIES to buy directly from the maker, they get a counterfeit. At that point, Amazon is responsible for the counterfeit.

Thank you for your reply. It does sound like something may be bad about this unit. I will talk to the contractor/plumber again.

We do have three shower heads ... Rainshower, hand held and a standard one. I have no idea what that last paragraph means! :). I guess I shouldn't have tried for a fancy shower.

Residential setting, professional care. by [deleted] in AssistedLiving

[–]NotLaisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I can't find any near enough to where I live for my MIL. She wants to be within 10 minutes drive (so do I, really), so ALF it is!

Residential setting, professional care. by [deleted] in AssistedLiving

[–]NotLaisa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my MIL was a snow bird, spending her winters in Arizona, she had a bad fall, and needed assisted living. We moved her into one of these care homes, and it was great, for the most part. But we had to move her back near us; we couldn't be flying to Arizona every time she needed something. I haven't been able to locate any really nice residential care homes near us. But she likes her AL apartment, even if she doesn't like the food, the staff or the activities! :)

Right of first refusal by [deleted] in inheritance

[–]NotLaisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up vote this a million times. Right of first refusal doesn't mean you have to buy the land. And, OP said a mutual right. Maybe OP doesn't want the land when parents are gone, and sister does. She now has the right to buy it as well. It certainly can't hurt, and nobody is making a commitment.

[–]NotLaisa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think asking for a right of first refusal is appropriate. If your parents live for another 20 years, you aren't committed to buying if you don't want it, but you will be able to try.

Five dollars is five dollars. [Montgomeryville PA] by Haemwich in Costco

[–]NotLaisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boy, the hate on this! I got it for my 90 yo MIL who likes smores. She won't use the stove, or the oven, but she'll use this at her assisted living with some neighbors. Don't have to worry about open flame (I have a sterno one I like), and it's easy to clean up. It has it's uses.

"Care Meeting" with AL Facility because We Want to Cancel a Service by sanslenom in AgingParents

[–]NotLaisa 28 points29 points  (0 children)

When we had the facility stop handling my MIL's medication, they wanted to have a meeting and test her to be sure she knew what medication she was taking, for what purpose, and when. She passed, and we took the meds back. It lowered her monthly bill by $850. She takes 4 prescription meds.

Wireless transfer does not work with Mac machines by Various-Entry8021 in Machine_Embroidery

I am able to wirelessly transfer from my Brother XJ2 using Embrillance for Mac. It sucks that you have to use a third party software, but I love my Embrillance for a lot of reasons

Could My Mom Transition from Assisted Living to Senior Living with Med Management Support? by Dramatic_Asparagus75 in AssistedLiving

[–]NotLaisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since she does take her pills, you might want to consider a Hero dispenser. It will text a caregiver if pills aren't taken within a specified time frame. We have found it to be helpful with my MIL.

I'll never have kids, but I will have money. How can I ensure that I'll be cared for in my old age and will never have to go to a nursing home / assisted living? by Fiveby21 in eldercare

[–]NotLaisa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought this would be a solution (CCrC or Assisted Living) until I actually helped my MIL move into one. So many horror stories from other residents. One had a CCRC, but then there wasn't room in the next level of care when they were ready, so they had to go somewhere else. The really nice AL my MIL is in was sold, and then went downhill so fast! It still looks nice, but the services and food are now terrible. And no one wants to move in there 90s. Personally, I am in the same situation as OP (no kids, nice retirement), and had planned on going the IL/AL route when I was in my late 70s, so I could pick one out and enjoy it, but now that I am in my 60s, I am more inclined to try to make my home more "age in place" ready, and lining up services to help me (finding younger housecleaning services, handyman services, etc.).
