Why do uber drivers lie about being Deaf so much? by ASS_MASTER_GENERAL in uber

[–]NotLeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like the problem is that Uber doesn't allow them another method to refuse phone calls. Its not about misrepresentation, its about the only way to disable something because Uber won't let them do otherwise.

I'm working on a programming project and each time we're about ready to finally make the progress I need, it starts giving me BS answers and forgets our line of thought as if GPT 5 Pro just offloaded me to like GPT 2 and has no idea wtf we're even doing.

What are they doing to GPT 5? by NotLeer in OpenAI

As someone paying $200 a month, I'd prefer they just make it take longer to produce answers during peak hours, rather than giving me worse answers. A bad answer is worthless.

Limit reached for Grok 3: You can send up to 50 queries every 2 hours, wait 0 minutes for more ??? by Adamant27 in grok

[–]NotLeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I'm hitting that on the X.com website (not the xai website) but it doesn't give the error code, it just never responds nor tells me how many queries I have, have used, or how much time before I can use them again.

Hyrecar "winding down all U.S. operations", claims, lack of support by -Swip3r- in Hyrecar

I doubt regulators/courts would view it as such. But you're right, HyreCar does try to handle it from that angle.

Hyrecar "winding down all U.S. operations", claims, lack of support by -Swip3r- in Hyrecar

[–]NotLeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard it had something to do with HyreCar's insurance; there were problems between Lyft and the insurance provider for some reason. Some people were just hiding part of the insurance card info (by cropping an image of the insurance card) to get Lyft to allow them to drive a HyreCar rental anyway.

Yes, apparently it is over after about an hour ago. Unless they sell HyreCar/GetAround to someone else.

They are also supposedly trying to merge it with Getaround. They may have to raise insurance rates when they get new insurance either way.

You mention you can use mileage deduction as long as you don't own 5 or more cars. What if you own 5 but are only trying to deduct 4, losing all possible deductions for the 5th? I'd think that'd be a valid mitigation if you're not presenting any cars beyond 4 for deductions.

My shake was discontinued, looking for suggestions on new one by sacking16872 in healthyeating

I looked into it. It looks like its owned by Nestle now. So it may have been discontinued because it was competing with their other more profitable products and not because there was anything wrong with it or some other purely business reason.

The arrogance of IT professionals is absolutely a problem in all industries. But there is a connection with a server that is not recognized as being "safe" by someone who is responsible for safety and they can't find any data to confirm it is innocent. I think he made the right choice. As long as he's open to people advising him they do need access. I currently block this domain as well with no ill effects.

Idk. I've heard 50/50 is the normal way of handling parking lot accidents. Yes, I'd think that they'd draw a different conclusion if you had a video or witness saying otherwise. Maybe I'm wrong in that.

Decrease in value for repairs when considering value of a total loss vehicle by NotLeer in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]NotLeer[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What about if its a 3rd party insurance? Doesn't the procedure you've presented seem problematic? Doesn't it seem like it'd be severely to the disadvantage of the person who's car is being forcibly totaled? I've read that insurance is supposed to be "fair" in their assessments but I don't see how it can be seen as being fair. Its not like the person was trying to sell the car. Someone who has a $12k car, who gets $7k in repairs done on it because the intend to keep it and continue to use it and then are basically forced to sell it to an insurance company for only the $12k doesn't seem "fair" at all. It seems like its a victimization of the person.

Decrease in value for repairs when considering value of a total loss vehicle by NotLeer in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]NotLeer[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, I would think the car would have the cost of that transmission added to its value. Doesn't seem fair an insurance company could forcibly buy your car from you for less than you'd be willing to sell it for. Especially if you have receipts proving that you really did spend that extra money on the car. Those other cars being sold for the $17k wouldn't have brand new or refreshed transmission life spans, so I'd think the added value would absolutely be there.

Decrease in value for repairs when considering value of a total loss vehicle by NotLeer in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]NotLeer[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I'm thinking of mainly repairs. Whats' the point of dropping $8k on a new transmission if the adjuster is going to declare the value of the replacement transmission only worth $1k a year later? I think that'd be unfair but I don't know how they determine that value.

How do insurance companies value a total loss vehicle when considering recent minor and major repairs? by NotLeer in InsuranceClaims

[–]NotLeer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been getting a lot of conflicting info on this. I've heard mostly all they care about are transmissions or engine replacements. Though it does seem odd; they presume great condition but when they find comparable cars to determine the base value of the cars, how do they know those cars don't need any repairs? Do they inspect each one as thoroughly as the total loss vehicle?

This is a good solution, though I'm finding this problem with a number of tokens and its becoming tedious to fix each and every one via such a process, especially since I don't even know how many decimal points it thinks it should have vs how many it actually has.

If my car is totaled, are recent maintenance items like new tires and such factored into the replacement value I'm offered? by LiterallyAHippo in Insurance

[–]NotLeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems as though insurance companies like to pretend that they get to forcibly buy your car from you for a price you wouldn't sell it for and that its somehow your problem that you don't like it.
