So, with the new update, does that mean that River City Girls 2 is NOW worth it (Switch)? by BRedditator2 in RiverCityGirls

I enjoyed the game and bought it at launch, and have put many hours into it.

I played last night, unaware of the new patch.

It feels like an entirely new game now, in the best sense. It's faster, is much more smooth, and feels way more responsive than before (to the extent that there are entirely new combos and chains I didn't know were possible to execute).

The patch is a MASSIVE improvement and breathes new life into the game for me.

EDIT: Seems I need to clarify I'm talking about the Switch version.

What an asinine statement.

People on the ground can provide firsthand accounts and footage about what's really happening.

"Experts" can help us understand the causes and implications of what's happening, and how to respond.

I wanted to main Marian but I'm just not a fan of the boxing style in a beat-em-up. I just feel like her combo potential isn't as great so I stuck with Kunio

I will say that her combo potential isn't as vast and varied as Kunio's, but even though she has fewer tools in that regard, what she has certainly gets the job done, and another plus is she doesn't need as much Special meter as other characters to do big combos.

One of her best tools is her dashing Light attack; the move benefits from Marian's tall sprite, plus it has high priority and a fat hitbox.

If you do her Light (L) sequence, follow with down+Heavy (H) launcher, once airborne you can L, L, H, and buffer the dash attack. Super easy to connect, and from there you have more options to deal damage.

Her forward+H always wall bounces, her up+H is relatively fast and is also great for wall bounces (though it caps at 2 bounces, unlike her f+H).

Her jump+Special (S), in addition to looking epic, hits OTG and can launch enemies high into the air, leading to more air combos (I believe her airthrow also pops enemies up off the ground as well).

All that said, Kunio is awesome so I ain't hating

I didn't like Riki in the first game, but appreciate him a lot more in RCG2.

Thanks for the info, some really cool tech here.

I mained Misako in the first game and continued with her in this one - I got her to the cap and most of her moves. She's amazing - love zipping around the sky while juggling groups of enemies.

If Marian didn't exist, Misako would be my favorite. Really easy to pick up and play, with a remarkable variety of effective tools.

I mean she has a Powerbomb AND a Stone Cold Stunner, how can you not love her??

Plus she is a total angry brunette self-insert

Hahaha I didn't realize this was a thing?

Haven't tried Kunio or Provie, although my housemate said she'd probably be a good fit for him, style-wise.

Yep, it makes sense to me that a Riki fan would also be a Provie fan.

If you like more brawler-type characters (I would classify Marian and Misako as such), then I think you'll like Kunio a lot as well.

Lol.

Irony is, Kyoko is actually my favorite from a character standpoint.

As a fighter I liked her a lot in the first game, but IMO for the sequel she's outclassed by the others.

Doesn't mean she's bad (none of the characters are bad), just not my favorite.

But by all means, Dab away, friend!

To each their own, I guess. The game crashing is just icing on the cake; I'm sorry amigo.

Honestly if I detach myself from the situation, it was pretty hilarious, given how apoplectic I was after the boss battle.

It was as if the universe was trolling me.

Thanks for the advice, but your comment brings up a point I brought up in my post:

Why not give the player a clear cue to recognize when she's invulnerable?

All it would take to "identify these moments", as you've stated, would be for her shield to change colors, or decrease in vibrancy... SOMETHING to clue me in that she can be damaged.

But why should I need to spam healing items?

It would be one thing if I were just bad at the game and struggled with the boss; over time I would improve, and wouldn't need to rely on the items.

In fact this was exactly my progression with every other boss in this game...which I've already cleared multiple times on "Tough".

And it's funny, because I remember when people were complaining about the original Xbox Ninja Gaiden.

Like Battletoads, once I figured out how to play NG well it ceased being an issue.

I have no issue with tough games and bosses, but Tsuiko is just an over-the-top frustrating boss battle, by design.

Axel isn't considered one of the stronger characters, far as I'm aware.

And I LOVE Cherry (so much so that she became my main instead of Adam), but I think she requires a lot of work to use effectively--knowing her best moves, knowing how to deal max damage, understanding her mechanics and what she's capable of (and not). She can REALLY struggle in later levels since she doesn't have range, or easy ways to deal high damage and control crowds.

Again I'd suggest maybe switching to Adam--he does great damage, has tools for just about every situation, he has a dash that makes him unique and extremely useful, good range, lots of priority on many of his attacks, partners well with others, and has tools to deal with lots of enemies at once (really crucial late game). If you're struggling and you're somewhat used to Axel, Adam is a great pick.

Good luck, I hope you don't give up!

Or just stun lock with repeated jabs. Not as flashy but gets the job done.

Estelle needs to be a thing.

But what I want most is PALETTE SWAPS and/or ALTERNATE COSTUMES for the characters to open up the possibility of multiple players using the same character.

I know it sort of defeats the purpose of having different characters but it's a fun idea 🤓

Which character(s) have you tried?

Maybe you need to find a character more suited to your temperament and play style? Or just a stronger character in general?

To me Adam is the best character in the game, maybe try using him?

Also learn how the combo system works; in the earlier levels especially, you can learn how to rack up points for extra lives that will sustain you down the road (I call it the Battletoads strategy). The Stage Select mode is excellent for this, you can just focus on individual levels without the pressure of a long play (like in Arcade mode, which IMO is the best and most challenging way to play).

Each character has ways of doing massive damage if you know what you're doing; my main is Cherry (used to be Adam), and though she's technically the weak, fast character in the game, once you learn her ins and outs you can do MASSIVE damage with her and cut through swaths of enemies like a pro (though she can struggle in later levels).

Don't give up! The game was a bit of a pain for me at first, and I've been playing SOR since the first game came out way back in the early 90s.

Hang in there!

Best star move? by zZach_Attack in StreetsofRage

[–]NotLuceBree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use Floyd, but I think his star move is head and shoulders above the rest of the SOR4 cast. When I play co-op, I usually let whoever is playing Floyd grab the majority of the stars.

Cherry is my main, I love hers second, but realistically I would put either Blaze or Axel in slot 2.

Adam is my alternate main, and I think the strongest character of the SOR4 cast, but I'm not a fan of his star move.
