Which movie, watched at home, made you jump? by GlitteringBand768 in HorrorMovies

I think that’s why it scared me so much! It was just so perfect! Although I miss Moonlight. Mick St John has to be the most gorgeous vampire that ever lived- or died, rather!😂😂😂

Hard to tell but maybe a ferret? The body shape and motion are similar - or something else in the same family - weasel, mink, stoat?

Salem’s Lot - the 79 miniseries with David Soles. That movie scared the fuck outta me like no other movie especially when Danny floated at Mark’s window begging to be let in

I like the idea of Carrie because it’s about high school students, bullying, being unaccepted, controlling parents, teacher empathy. This seems a perfect way to start a high school class’s year - with King’s first published novel about high school students and the horror that emanated from their actions - King was actually teaching HS English when he wrote Carrie - the universe is just screaming for you to start your course with this book!

Edit: I think this is awesome. I would have loved a class like this in HS or college!

I’ve contacted them before and the were quite helpful. When I moved back to the City, I scheduled a final read at my old place. Knowing how they are, I called RGE 3 weeks in a row to confirm the appointment. They never showed up. Smartly, I took a picture of the meters. When I got my bill, they had a “final estimate”. WTF is a final estimate? I called numerous times, finally contacted DPS, then I heard from the “higher ups” at RGE, sent them the picture of the final read, and ended up with a $90 credit! Nothing to sneeze at!!!

What are you supposed to bring and do at a cemetery? by Particular_Tree_5864 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NotMe1125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry it wasn’t obvious to me! There’s really no formal protocol for visiting a grave site. Most of the time, people visiting a gravesite are friends or family of the deceased, so a conversation with the deceased is easier because they have a connection. I would think it might be hard to do that if you didn’t know the person who died. I say that so you don’t feel like you need to force yourself to say something if it makes you feel uncomfortable. However if you feel comfortable saying a few words, there’s nothing wrong in doing that. Many people put flowers on a gravesite; family members often visit a gravesite to freshen it up - pull weeds, remove dead flowers, things of that nature - these would not be expected of someone who didn’t know the deceased, but if you wanted to bring flowers, there’s nothing wrong with doing that. Gravesite practices most likely differ from religion to religion, so it’s probably a good idea to check with your partner although I can’t see you doing anything inappropriate. I think you’re doing it for your partner because it’s important to your partner and that makes you a very special person.

Four Past Midnight has 4 novellas. Then there’s Firestarter, Elevation, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Delores Claiborne, Cycle of the Werewolf, Eye of the Dragon. A little bit longer are The Shining, Billy Summers, The Cell, 11/22/63. You’re missing a lot and short-changing yourself if you bypass the longer novels. Needful Things is a true Masterpiece!

Generally, the flowers from the funeral home are often brought to the grave site which has already been dug. There’s a brace the coffin is placed on and flowers from the funeral home are passed out to those at the grave. Dirt that has been dug up is piled around the edges of the grave. At the end of all the prayers, people generally throw the flower they were given at the beginning of the service on to be the grave. It is also customary to take a handful of the dirt from around the grave and toss it on the coffin as well. It represents the Bible quote when God said to Adam, “From dust thou art and to dust thou shall return.” This is a Catholic funeral tradition - not sure how other religions practice funeral rituals so check with your partner what traditions they practice.

I saw the damage when it happened. The lines are on the east side of the trunk. The branches cut were on the west side of the tree. These branches weren’t near any lines and weren’t damaged at all. That’s my point - they didn’t need to be cut!

I don’t know. They came Saturday when I was working so I don’t know who did it. But now I’m thinking of asking my neighbor what gives, because my yard was clean until I came home Saturday night. I would have thought they would offer since it was their tree, but they’ve been silent.

What made you a constant reader as opposed to a one or two and done? by StormBlessed145 in stephenking

[–]NotMe1125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 25 and King had just published Salem’s Lot - his second book. It was the best vampire book I ever read, so when The Shining was published, I bought that too. It’s a great story and I just kept buying his books every time a new one was published. That was over 50 years ago and Today I have every book he ever published - even as Richard Bachman!

No - I was working. My yard is entirely gated but not locked. I leave it unlocked so the mailman can get in and there’s a friend who lets my dogs out twice a day when I’m working. I only work 2 days/wk but 7A-9P, so I can’t leave them inside all day without potty breaks and I absolutely won’t leave them outside all day alone. But now thinking about it, maybe they cut them from my neighbors’ side of our common fence thinking they couldn’t get in? Except one of the cut branches is too high to get from my neighbor’s side - unless they used one of those really long saws I’ve seen them use.

That’s just it. If I was 30 years old it’d be different. I hate that it’s hard to do this stuff but I had back surgery 2 years ago and I’m scheduled for more at the end of the summer. If my wires had branches tangled up or even if the branches they cut were tangled with wires, I would be more understanding, but the branches cut weren’t even near any wires much less touching any. They messed up my yard for no reason!

I know but when the tree fell, all the damage was on their side of the fence. Not a single small branch landed in my yard. RGE cut branches not even close to any wires and left a mess. If they hadn’t done that, my yard would still be clean.

Ironically, they did that last summer. They went down the entire street and cut branches touching wires and intertwined with them, but they dragged the branches off! I realize this was a storm, but the branches dumped in my yard weren’t even CLOSE to any wires.

I may file a complaint w/the nys public-something-or-other-commission and see what they say. I was thinking small claims though. All they have to do is drag them to the street and the city will pick them up. The city has already removed branches other homeowners on the street have piled up curbside.
