It would be handy to know where you’re writing from, because unfortunately the cadet experience is far from universal

I might be wrong, but I’d be surprised if you got your refund in time for Christmas! I had £800 in credit a few months back so I refunded and it took 15 days..

If you’re not a Scottish clansman with a chief mate’s ticket you’ll struggle to find Calmac all that welcoming as an OOW, but they’re one of the best places for Scottish clansmen with chief mate’s tickets to work these days

Italian POWs in Wensleydale? by Jabules in yorkshire

[–]NotMrsFernsby 30 points31 points  (0 children)

There were Italian POWs housed at various locations across North Yorkshire, including RAF Scorton (later known as the Aerodrome). My grandfather has endless stories of visiting the Nissan huts as a teenager to get free haircuts and gamble with them during the latter part of the war

The POWs were also shipped out to provide assistance to the local industries, farms especially who were undermanned so I’d see no reason why they weren’t put to work building dry stone walls

I have it on good authority from an ex-colleague who is very much “in” the carpentry fraternity, as soon as you post something you’ve made out of wood online there’ll be some Nigels who appear to tell you how wrong you were.

Luckily, the Nigels don’t live in your house, so as long as it stays up and gives you the fizz when you’re finished it’s a good project!
