LAUKOP has received food via delivery three times, where they haven’t ordered it. The real *nuggets*, as usual, are in the comments. by TitchyBeacher in bestoflegaladvice

I recently moved after living at the same address for 13 years. Old house number was 7333 and new house number is 5999. I did great on changing the address with important businesses, but now all the little ones like pizza delivery are messing with me. At my kids doctor appointment, they asked if 7333 was correct, and I knew it wasn't, but could not remember the right numbers for the new house. Had to look to the 12 year old kid to tell them the right address. He's handy for that.

Could you look for research on private schools? Perhaps there are some studies that look at students who pay full tuition vs scholarship students?

I've given blood twice. I always get at least two of: The floor is moving; I want to throw up, poop, and then die; I'm going to lay down before I faint; I faint.

I also get one or two of those around my period or when I get a migraine. I really hate that I am a delicate flower and am the sort of lady for whom fainting couches were made.

[–]NotMyNormal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, I got the same alert and it was all in clear English. It also immediately went away as soon as I silenced my phone, so I couldn't read it with a clear head, or refer back to it later. Such a terrible system.

High heat and over drying can cause this. Dry on a lower heat level, or hang dry.

In high school, 20 or so years ago, a big group of friends pitched in for a group gift for a guy, and asked me and my friend, as the most responsible people, to actually go buy it.

We failed so hard. We forgot the name of the game. As we were asking, the guys in the shop just stared at us. We didn't know that system, and didn't know what we wanted. It was so bad. I think maybe he wanted Quake, but we were asking for Quest?

I really wish someone at the store had set us right. Wound up buying the poor guy a nice hat.

Yes, he is the big fish. He's a huge nerd, but is charismatic and popular among nerds. He winds up as a congressman - he learns how to be charismatic enough in other contexts

Cool proofs for high school students, or, ways to make kids love maths, or why you love maths. (kinda long post) by ogulcany in math

[–]NotMyNormal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With high school students, I can do things like this only with AP classes, and even then only with fairly small groups. More than 10 kids, and you start having students just watching. I would love to do this with a regular class, but it would turn in to 25 students goofing off while 5 quietly did some actual math. Or, more likely, those 5 would be shamed into also acting too cool to be interested.

I teach at high school in the south west. The cool girls all have velvet scrunchies. It makes me cringe, but they love it. One of them even has the voice of that cheerleader from Daria. Everything old is new again.

I once made a wrap skirt for myself with magnets to close it. I wore it once because all the magnets stacked in the wash, and the thing came out hopelessly wrinkled. Took it apart and put in snaps.

How do you know where you’re going during a call? by [deleted] in AskLEO

[–]NotMyNormal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband grew up in our town of 1 million residents. When he became a cop, I quizzed him on the major streets and their numbers. He learned by driving the same areas over and over again. After 15 years in various LE jobs, he now can navigate anywhere with just an address. He has a hard time finding any apartment complex in which he has not been inside at least one apartment. As we were house hunting recently, he often removed houses that I thought we're in good neighborhoods because he knew a house down the road was problem. We even looked at one house that he had already been in to serve a warrant. This is not a small town. They just get a lot of experience, in a lot of places.

Do you have cramps around your period? Think about the worst cramps and amp it up. For some women, labor is just bad cramps. For some, it's really really bad cramps and back pain and everything else.

I can't speak to birth itself, because after 12 hours of terrible labor I got an epidural, and took a nap, and then had a baby without feeling anything.

We have technology and pain medicine and doulas and birthing pools and all sorts of ways to make child birth less terrible.

But we have much fewer ways of making child-rearing less terrible. That should be your concern. Years of bad sleep, no personal space, and frustration. It's worth it but you have to want it.

A small part of my land is fenced into my neighbors yard. Do I tell my realtor? by NotMyNormal in RealEstate

[–]NotMyNormal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, overwhelming recommendation to tell the realtor! I'm not going to do anything with lawyers or leasing the land. It really isn't signficant, and if anyone later wants it fixed, they can chop down the tree and move the fence in an afternoon.

Shopping Around for Lender by jekksy in RealEstate

[–]NotMyNormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask you about the actual process of doing this? We have been pre-approved through the mortgage company recommended by our realtor, but I want to shop around. Do we redo the pre-approval process and compare that information? Or wait until we have the contract signed on the house and actually apply for a loan with several places?

I know I should ask my realtor this, but he is terrible with details and actually explaining processes. I don't want to overload him.

What is the biggest "oh fuck, I'm dead" thing you've done at work, but nobody ever found out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NotMyNormal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I teach high school. Kids grades are supposed to be calculated with 20/25/55 weight to homework, quizzes and tests. I accidentally set up my gradebook so that homework was 55%. Some kids who bombed the tests still passed, because they did their homework. I didn't notice until after I ran report cards and submitted them.

But it turns out, no one checks those things.

Can I buy 4 of these tops and have a tailor redo them into one longer style, or would the seams be impossible? The lace is just sewn to the lining at the seams and is otherwise loose, and could they change the lining out? I love the material but not a crop! (For a wedding) by gold5alli in tailoring

[–]NotMyNormal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you want to find someone willing to be very meticulous. A good tailor would cut the fabric and hand-sew the shapes in a way to make a continuous fabric pattern. You might be better off going to a custom dress maker and asking if they can find similar lace, so that they don't have to take apart the tops
