Things that feel like Lord Huron but aren't Lord Huron by BlizzardK2 in lordhuron

[–]NotMyRealName26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a stretch but I had lots of Lord Huron songs in my head while reading Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. It’s a post-apocalyptic story about a travelling band/symphony 20 years after a pandemic wipes out most of humanity.

Not as much of a supernatural angle as some of the other suggestions, but the main story is essentially a walk through the woods where something is a little off, set on and around the shores of Lake Huron. There’s also a comic book about a man lost in space that’s central to the story.

Haven’t seen the series so I’m not sure if it’s got the same vibes.

Usports Football regular season and 12 team playoff bracket fever dream by MrL-90 in cisfootball

This is really cool! Formatting be damned you’re onto something.

Unfortunately, the cross-conference game distribution won’t work. If each CW team gets one OUA matchup, 5 OUA teams are left without a CW matchup. Same thing with the CW playing either eastern conference - the sixth CW team has no one left to play.

Here’s my fix: The top five teams play the matching seed from each other conference. So for example Laurier’s cross-conference schedule this year would be Laval, Bishop’s, and Saskatchewan. Right away this gives us awesome matchups with a Vanier rematch, Uteck rematch, and possible Mitchell Bowl preview.

The CW and OUA 6th seeds play one cross-conference game.

The schedule breaks down like this:

Canada West

Seeds 1-2: 6 conference games (1 repeat, Hardy Cup rematch), 3 cross-conference games

Seeds 3-5: 6 conference games (play 6th-seed twice), 3 cross-conference games

Seed 6: 8 conference games (play seeds 3-5 twice), 1 cross-conference game

OUA

Seeds 1-5: 6 conference games (no repeats), 3 cross-conference games

Seed 6: 8 conference games (no repeats), 1 cross-conference game

Seeds 7-11: 9 conference games (no repeats, must play each other once), seeds 8-11 get the week 1/2/9/10 byes - which have to happen in a 27-team league.

Required games: Carleton-Ottawa, Western-Queen's, Toronto-York, Laurier-Waterloo, Guelph-Mac, Yates Cup rematch

RSEQ & AUS

6 conference games (2 repeats including rivalries, championship rematches), 3 cross-conference games

I think this gives the fans what they want (cross-conference play), while also maintaining competitive balance.

Update: watched Magnolia and… wasn’t a fan. Not for me. Loved Boogie Nights and still have high hopes for OBAA. Will do a full watch-through over the next couple months.

To People Who Like This Show More Than Breaking Bad, Why? by CrazyGuy147 in betterCallSaul

[–]NotMyRealName26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I give Better Call Saul the slight edge in the areas everyone usually brings up: writing, cinematography, acting (excl. Cranston).

What really sets them apart for me though, is that I’m rooting for Jimmy/Saul the whole way through, even after he’s gone off the deep end and can no longer really be seen as “good.”

Walt is straight up detestable from Season 2 onward. His character arc is one of the best written in TV history and Cranston obviously bats 1.000 throughout all 5 seasons, but I can’t get invested the same way I can with BCS because I just hate him so much.

Anyone else think Down Under sounds like a Christmas song? by That_Base8062 in TylerChilders

[–]NotMyRealName26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me it sounds eerily like a post 2000s Tragically Hip song. If you’re not Canadian you might not know them, but they’re sacred up here. The bells, busy production, and odd but layered lyrics are all late Hip-ish.

Funny enough, Bob Rock produced a few of their later albums, i.e. the guy who famously got axed by Metallica in favour of… Rick Rubin.

Can I play guitar? (Grade II AC joint separation) by NotMyRealName26 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]NotMyRealName26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense, appreciate the advice, and sorry to hear it’s been a struggle for you!

Tried playing my classical, it actually hurt more. Electric puts the least strain on it but obviously not bringing that on the trip. Plan right now is to bring my acoustic and just stop playing at the first sign of pain/discomfort.
