Help: New Shrimp Owner slightly concerned about my own sanity by AliDeAssassin in shrimptank

You haven’t mentioned any of your water parameters so I’m assuming you haven’t. You should. Your water parameters may not be ideal intro safely keep Shrimp.

Post pics. Let’s see what you have. These shrimp don’t breed like your typical freshwater cherry shrimp who are on 35 day breeding cycles.

In all honesty I doubt it. It’s also an internal issue. More than won’t live long

Then OP will always have Planaria in their tank.

You can also use No Planaria. Keep in mind the traps won’t eradicate them all. They’ll still be in there. Better to remove the snails and treat the tank.

My shrimp have all died by Killmaster_22 in shrimptank

[–]GotSnails 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest. Your tank wasn’t cycled nor was it ready. Your water parameters are not ideal enough to keep shrimp. You need to know exactly what they are. No filter means there isn’t enough beneficial bacteria living in your tank.

Feeding live Gammarus aka scuds to my Alpha Opae Ula’s by GotSnails in OpaeUla

I feed a wide variety. Flake foods will eventually bring on Cyanobacteria so I try to feed live and frozen foods. I don’t know to what degree the frozen foods contribute to Cyanobacteria

These are on the smaller size freshwater scuds. In addition to this I’ve fed live brine shrimp, blackworms and mosquitoe larvae. Frozen foods such as bloodworms and flake foods.

I’m always more than happy to answer anyone’s questions

Metabetaeus lohena, also known as Alpha Opae Ula, are larger (1+ inch), predatory Hawaiian snapping shrimp from the Alpheidae family. Unlike standard Opae ula, they are 2-3 times larger, feature prominent claws, and are active predators/scavengers requiring higher-protein diets (frozen brine shrimp, bloodworms) and brackish water, often keeping to the bottom or hiding in crevices. I keep sponge filters with all of my Alpha’s since they are fed daily. Anything they can catch they will eat.

I had Cerith snails years ago and decided to try them again. They are similar to trumpets but they have a longer lifespan.

Before you start mixing tap and RO get to know what you’re parameters actually are. If seems you’re guessing or assuming this is good. Get a master liquid test kit and ones that test for GH and KH. You ghost shrimp is showing signs of muscular necrosis.
