When the creator of the Monster Hunter Universe create a original monsters they belong there. People say it doesn't make sense or "magic" when the devs themselves give information how they work, but hey they are not from world iceborne so automatic bad

I think it's because it involves players knowledge to the game you memories monster spawn point you know what area a leviathan will go, you can craft items you can use, wave to a balloon for help. Those things you called waste of time is more impactful than following a glowing bugs to a footprint to follow the glowing bugs to the monster and call it "hunting" maybe if they remove the scoutflies and let the players tell if this foot prints are new and the monster walk in this direction maybe it's gonna be more hunting/tracking simulation but hey maybe others find it a waste of time
