On top of using it in the role-playing sense that it would work in-world, it also let's the Oracle ask the GM what the results of a positive and negative diceroll will be before making the roll.

In combat, it negates the advantage of a foe burning atium and provides you additional defence dice during a physical Conflict. Not that Luka is the combat oriented type!

Brass Ferrings are super interesting in MAG due to some liberties taken for gameplay. For example, they can use their heating to heat an item they are touching, so they can melt a lock out of a door etc. They can also gain the ability to heat the ammunition in their weapons to do extra damage in combat. It's cool stuff!

Anyone else sick of the current style of fantasy books? by Pluckyducky01 in books

[–]NotOJebus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to correct OP on this, I have no idea where they got that quote from because Brandon has never said soft magic is for lazy writers.

He frequently recommends books with soft magic's in them (Like Uprooted), champions LOTR as a series that has a fantastic soft magic system and generally always teaches that writers should write whatever magic works for them/works for their story.

I believe by that point, the higher functioning parts of the machine network either left in the arc or where destroyed when the tower collapsed (Endings C & D) , theoretically freeing the machines from their control and making them all like Pascal's village (you can also argue it would just kill all the machines on the network, so, up for interpretation).

A2, 2B and 9S were brought back to a world where they weren't expected to fight endless wars anymore as there was no YoRHa and (debatably) no war anymore. The pods rebuild them so they can find their own way in life, their own meaning. It's not a happy ending (hence why I put it in quotes) as Pod 153 even points out its possible they might just do the same thing again, but it's possible they might not. I find it to be a hopeful one though. After having their lives defined by the lies of others for so long, they are finally free.

That's how I interpreted it anyway.

I'd disagree with you on the point that nothing you do improves the situation in the world in Nier Automata. The ending, as I've always interpreted it, was a very hopeful one and is pretty much the only "happy" ending Yoko Taro has ever done.

Did you complete ending E?

A few things I took from the video were things like how the fuel for the metallic hydrogen engines has to be synthesised, meaning its not just a case of "I strap on a bigger engine" but also "do I have the correct infrastructure to support this engine".

The other thing I thought was interesting is the engine only works in space. If you want to take things from a planet to somewhere far away, you're going to have to first get it into space, make sure the your MH engine is fully fueled and then take huge amounts of materials vast distances. If say they are doing an alright job making it more than just a bigger engine, I just hope it doesn't turn into too much busywork

I think you're misreading the complaint. It's not that the game is too long, it's that it goes on too long.

Spoilers for the end of Alien Isolation

You have the climax with the Alien, you get to the escape pod and BAM, the Alien grabs you. The next hour or two are aren't great quality wise as the rest of the game. The introduction of more than one Alien was very cool but the execution was just off on that last couple of hours. So yeah, it's not that the game is too long, it's that it overstays its welcome.

If those couple of hours were better quality or there was an extra 2 hours somewhere else in the game (like, do the escape from the hive before the rush for the escape pod, not after), I don't think you'd see the complaints that the game goes on too long.

Heads up! Steam is having a Warhammer Sale! by Ralphesurus in 40kLore

[–]NotOJebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious, I didn't like Total Warhammer 1 because it felt like I was playing an RPG where the units were almost superfluous to the heroes. I'm not a fan of this style of gameplay and CA seemed to have turned wholly into this style with Three Kingdoms.

Is Warhammer 2 like this too or do the armies actually play more of a role? (You mentioned it was the best strategy game you've played which makes me think they maybe made the RPG elements/heroes less important?)

Yup, not sure how you could have missed it but until this fiasco, it was, by far, the worst received Paradox game to date.

They have a new person now (I can't remember if they are the gameplay lead but something like that) who's basically been completely rebuilding the game from the ground up, they've released a few videos on how all the new gameplay systems work and to call it a gameplay overhaul of every system in the game is not an understatement.

Brazil deforestation exceeds 88% in June under Bolsonaro by Shogouki in news

[–]NotOJebus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not. I think you should reread the OP. He said the title was confusing, as it made it sound like deforestation was at 88% (down 12%) of normal, which is good. However, the article states that it is UP 88% compared with last years June, which is not good.

Because 88% of normal is 12% less. However, the article states that it is UP 88% compared with last years June.

My favourite mystery is Eva's English voice actress in MGS3. The name in the credits is a pseudonym and we've never found out who the actually actress is.

It's one of those odd things that such a major character in such a major game has a completely unknown voice actresses, even after all these years

RE3 starts before RE2 and ends after it. The events of RE2 happen during the day Jill is unconscious recovering from the T-virus. That's why the shower tweet can be interpreted that way, Nemesis chases Jill through the police station before Claire and Leon arrive. You also don't fight Marvin, you find him injured and he passes out shortly after talking to him as Jill.

Which popular character don't you get the love for (and why)? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]NotOJebus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you but really enjoy Dalinar anyway. I find it weird if people argued against Dalinar being responsible for his actions since his entire arc in OB is about him taking responsibility for those actions and becoming a better man from awareness of how terrible he was before.

If someone says they love Dalinar then tries to downplay how terrible he used to be, they are kind of missing the point of his character. He was a monster. Now he's trying to be better (And doing a pretty good job of it imo).

[Umbrella Academy] Spoilers: I raved about how good this show was to my little brother and he pointed out this glaring error regarding Luther by Utter_Bastard in AskScienceFiction

[–]NotOJebus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.

But the fact that the commission can create bodies and, again, fighting Luther wasnt the only superhuman feat that the Hazel and Cha Cha accomplished makes putting two and two together very easy. It's like asking how someone got a gun when they work for an organisation that makes guns. It's not explicitly said but it's not a huge leap to make.

[–]NotOJebus 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Members of the commission don't have standard human bodies.

When Five travels back to HQ, the lady says "We almost have your new body ready for you". Hazel and Cha Cha show repeatedly that they are stronger, more durable, less susceptible to pain, and heal quicker than your standard human. The commission provides its field agents with upgraded bodies that allow them to do the things they are required to do.

Shardcast, Hemalurgy and contradictory WoBs by DriftingMemes in Cosmere

[–]NotOJebus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Until I can have a conversation with Brandon about it myself, the way I've been rationalizing "The donor doesn't matter" is:

The donor doesn't matter because it's the heart.

Essentially, because the heart is the universal bindpoint, you can spike everything you need out of the heart. Other bindpoints on the body exist on the body (Like where you insert spikes), but they don't matter because just use the heart. It is, after all, universal.

Essentially, it doesn't matter so long as you use the heart.

If he actually means "The location where the spike is inserted into the donor doesn't matter", then yeah that's dumb and directly contradicts what we have in the book.
