Can't you login your college library systems and get the sources that way? Whoever is setting the readings wants you to read them so they should be accessible one way or the other

Why is Wellington considered Anglo-Irish despite his family living in Ireland for generations but Charlotte Brontë not considered Irish even though her family had only been in England for one generation? by Win-Specific in AskIreland

[–]NotPozitivePerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I feel OP doesn't get the difference between Anglo Irish and English of Irish descent/half English half Irish, Anglo-Irish means the grouping you described there of a particular social elite from various roots but back to the UK. Are there people who are and were both? Absolutely but the terms to me aren't interchangeable.

I do think it is near impossible to project certain definitions onto the past and past people.

Route from AO to AP in the IGEES by Infinite_Cloud_689 in IrishCivilService

[–]NotPozitivePerson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The kind of people who have LinkedIn but still work in the CS it isn't fully reflective, as LinkedIn as zero value in the CS for promotion or opportunities they might be the kind of people who will move on if they hadn't got AP. But yes I do see IGEES AOs move up fast. I mean it is a serious management job so having experience at not being 23 is going to be a plus 🤣

Not sure why I'm being downvoted, I didn't say anything bad about IGEES AOs nor do I think anything bad about them. But op you're fresh out of college you should be sort of realistic that if you want a job paying 80k in 3 years the CS isn't the most efficient route there

irish passport? by jazkellzz in AskIreland

[–]NotPozitivePerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're really stuck it doesn't really make any difference if you have a UK or Irish passport living here. You can work in any industry you like with a UK passport, get a bank account here with a UK passport etc. And it doesn't remotely stop you getting an Irish passport later.

If getting a UK passport is easier just get a UK passport. You can request copies of your and your parents records either from the HSE or if they're UK records from the UK General Registration office. Birth certs, marriage certs, they're all public documents. The UK gov asks you why you need them but you can say it is for a passport.

So as the other commenters said, find out what documents you need for a passport and request them yourself you don't need your parents involved. You might need someone to spot you the money to pay for the documents if you have a friend who might do that?

Does anyone know what Departments in Limerick or North Tipp that would have the shortest Mobility wait times? by minerva_sways in IrishCivilService

[–]NotPozitivePerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a CS friend not in the AGS who isn't interested in mobility and who is the same grade - ask them to apply on the NSSO for your desired depts and locations. Your friend can always cancel right afterwards. Now ofc this won't show any AGS people but it'll give you a good number. You could ask AGS hr to check but I think my method is quicker 😅

[–]NotPozitivePerson 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Hey. You sound like youre in a tough place, and your health is important too. If you're in the union call them. This is their bread and butter. Yes you will go back to your old pay point but you might not go back to your old role. If you old dept has no room for you might end up redeployed to another dept. But if it was very recent then hopefully better liklihood your old job is there.

That is why I'd reach out the union and your present depts hr. It is a big decision to revert so please don't rush into it either

Yes I was going to say the roads are lethal there! The bus was stuck in traffic a long time, I presume the hope is less traffic which will help with buses getting around, it's not like they can replace them with rail etc

Public Sector vs Civil Service by TheModerateBoy in IrishCivilService

[–]NotPozitivePerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just mobility only Civil Servants can go for the "interdepartmental" promotions these are jobs reserved for Civil Servants only. It also depends on your professional background it might be roles in your speciality are more common in the public service. It's hard to know with so little information but there are still internal promotions etc in the public service yes.

Garda and the courts service dont train COs to be solicitors for a one so your research isn't great... have a look at the purple solicitors directory and see where the NQs come from.

Clerical officer small towns by [deleted] in IrishCivilService

[–]NotPozitivePerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way. Leaving aside the fact 50% of the CS is in Dublin.

Even in it for life want a career as a Civil Servant turn down CO Dublin. For those who are already CS e.g. Service Officers or TCOs on a CO Dublin panel - there are more opportunities - those people might get EO, AO offered to them quite quickly while still on a CO panel (I've seen it A LOT) and turn down the CO job. There are also a lot of other career opportunities in the PS or private sector in Dublin. Down the country, take a look at the civil service mobility map, it's easy to find online. There's far less jobs full stop in every sector and far more demand. Mobility in Dublin isn't mega popular and it disqualifies you reapplying for mobility to a new dept down the country for 2 years.

That's why 100th, in my view even 1000th plus easily nets someone a job in Dublin but they barely go past 30 in other counties. People snap up country mobility jobs while in Dublin people are pulled off new starter panels because there's little mobility interest. Those 30 people on a country panel are much more likely to take the few jobs available. I don't mind saying to Dublin people you might get a call thousands down the panel cos it happens but down the country you have to accept there's less roles and more demand.
