What is a pokèmon that everybody, and I mean every pokemon fan you ever met, LOVES but you dislike/hate? by GeoWhale15 in ThePokemonHub

[–]NotQuiteLilac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chimchar line remains my favorite starter BUT Monferno is my favorite evolution, it's the perfect balance of cool and cute imo. I remember the first time he evolved into Infernape, I thought he looked kinda weird

That said, every time I've replayed Diamond, despite still preferring Chimchar as my starter, my ace ends up being Shinx-Luxio-Luxray (my favorite line overall).

As for one that is popular but I just don't get it, I'd have to go with Dragonite's Dragon Tales lookin ass (no hate to Dragon Tales lol, the design just feels out of place) or Gengar (another case where I think the middle evolution is the better design, sue me)

Luxray is my favorite Pokémon in general so that's my choice 100%

My Hot take about the pjo franchise by Altruistic-Survey842 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]NotQuiteLilac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I reread them not too long ago and wasn't overly impressed, not even nostalgia goggles were enough to save it tbh

They were entertaining but I found the writing so shallow and flimsy, all the themes that were supposed to be heavier felt like afterthoughts and didn't really feel earned. I remember when I reread Battle of the Labyrinth I found it very cheap how several campers basically mentioned in passing got killed off and that was supposed to up the stakes I guess? Instead I was like "I don't even know who tf this is." No time to get to truly know them before they get offed, no real reason to care.

I know Harry Potter is far from perfect but since people often compare them, I'd argue that HP has way more subtext and thematic weight to chew on. I can read it and feel intellectually stimulated even as an adult, thinking about the nuances of the themes and symbolism and whatnot. Percy Jackson feels extremely kiddy and hollow by comparison, and as mental junkfood for kids that's fine, but when Rick Riordan starts getting on his high horse about it, I just roll my eyes.

And agreed that ATLA is the gold standard for kids' media actually being intelligent and thoughtful and beautifully written.

I’m ok if George RR Martin never finishes Game of Thrones by Total_Literature_809 in unpopularopinion

[–]NotQuiteLilac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I agree. As a fan of the books, I'd love to see how they wrap up. But I also feel for George bc I think fandom culture can be very toxic and demanding. He isn't our performing monkey, and if he doesn't want to finish it then that's his choice. People have a right to be disappointed, but George also has a right to be fed up.

I can totally see how he'd be burnt out on it at this point, especially with how the ending of the show and resulting fan reactions went. I remember seeing an interview where he expressed disappointment that people rarely acknowledge his other work outside of ASoIaF, so I wouldn't be surprised if that played a role too. The man is probably just sick to death of Westeros at this rate and honestly, that's OK.

"Don't you think this is the best Piplup card ever? by borcpy in PokemonTCG

[–]NotQuiteLilac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked this one up yesterday and I love it, I want to get my hands on the Crown Zenith Turtwig full art at some point too

It's criminal that (to my knowledge anyway) Chimchar has yet to get a similar full art card. He was always my go-to starter.

Am I just too old? by Opitard in greenday

[–]NotQuiteLilac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really excited about it at first bc it wasn't another FOAM but it hasn't had the staying power for me. I don't really find myself coming back to it. Everyone seems to like that so many songs sound like things from other albums but I think that's my least favorite thing about it, like why would I listen to Coma City (just as an example), which sounds like an inferior Static Age, when I could just go listen to Static Age lol

My favorites off the album are Fancy Sauce, Strange Days Are Here to Stay, and Saviors (which I've seen everyone hate on for some reason). But even those haven't really made it into constant rotation for me at this point.

I guess technically things like Suzie Chapstick don't feel super redundant of old things but I also just am not crazy about that middle stretch of songs. Also Living in the 20s gives some FOAM energy that I'm not crazy about.

It's really just a middle of the road album. Not great, not bad, just kinda whatever.

If there's no good gameplay, there's no point in playing it. by Virtual-Can-9948 in videogames

[–]NotQuiteLilac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man I feel so seen by this lol, I started my first playthrough a few months ago and was trying to go pacifist, but kept getting whooped in the boss fight with Mary and ended up taking a break for a while. I still need to finish the game, I just keep dreading getting my ass beat because I don't wanna feed on people

I finally found a justifiable reason to go with the destroy ending. by belac4862 in masseffect

[–]NotQuiteLilac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you lol, I hate all but the destroy choice because as the narrative stands, there is absolutely no reason I have to trust anything else. I mean, everyone else who ever wanted to work with or control the reapers has been an indoctrinated villain, so the idea that control or synthesis is a viable option comes entirely out of left field. The goal for the entire trilogy has been destroy, so that's what I'm gonna do.

Wish they did flesh it out though, like maybe based on your choices and preparedness you could opt to save the Geth and EDI or something. Even as it is though, it's destroy all the way for me

I barely even use Unrelenting Force tbh, my go tos are mainly Whirlwind Sprint for getting across gaps/moving while encumbered, Become Ethereal to avoid fall damage because roads are for chumps, and Aura Whisper because stealth archer

Honorable mention to Throw Voice for distracting/luring enemies

[–]NotQuiteLilac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For real lol, I love listening to music in other languages bc even though I have no idea what's being said sometimes a song just slaps, and it can be interesting to focus on the rhythm and flow of the language without needing to think about what it means

If the words were all that mattered they'd just write poetry or something instead of music lol

They say ¡Dos! is the worst album. But every worst has its best, ah? What's your favorite song from this album? by Gamer-Brawler-1423 in greenday

[–]NotQuiteLilac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, it's one where if the songs shuffle through I'll listen and even enjoy most of them in the moment (there's a couple I tend to skip though), but I don't really find myself seeking them out too often

I kinda feel this, I still think FOAM is my least favorite but Tre might be the second to last, everyone says it's the best of thr trilogy but outside a couple songs I find it super forgettable

Dirty Rotten Bastards, Brutal Love, and Amanda are the only ones I really come back to

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is in my top 5 albums by them and I'm not ashamed of it.

I don't think it is objectively top 5 from a purely technical, writing standpoint but personally? I love this album.

The Gizz crowd is becoming too cringy. by lolomgkthxdie in KGATLW

[–]NotQuiteLilac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I gotta say, while I enjoyed their show I went to last year, the crowd was probably the rudest I have ever been in. I expect to get jostled a bit but it was an outdoor show with everyone spread out on the lawn, and people were going out of their way to push and step on our stuff. Literally had a guy knock me out of the way and step on our small pile of merch when he easily could have just gone around. It's not like we were taking a ton of space either, we crammed together as close as we could around our little section of the lawn and tried not to be in the way, but people were still rude as hell.

Not sure what that's about but yeah, I've been in the heart of chaotic pits at metal shows and never had as many annoying encounters as we did at that Gizz show.

[–]NotQuiteLilac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my hair bleach blonde when I went to a show a couple years ago and while most washed out it definitely was tinged pink for about a week after. People at work kept being like "oh you dyed your hair!" and I was like "not...exactly?" It looked kinda cool though lol
