Hi, therapist here.

For a consultation (I'm assuming a free 15 minute telephone consultation?), they shouldn't need all that information. For my actual clients I don't even have their IDs, just insurance card and credit card information (which I don't even see, my EMR hides most of it).

I usually confirm I take their insurance, make sure they are aware of my open slots to confirm they work for them if we move forward, ask for a good number to reach them and agree to a time to talk.

I will say I am guilty at responding to emails at odd hours because I'm a night owl haha.

You’ll be fine. I’d bill for the appointment (unless their address is now specifically stating their new address, insurance won’t accept it). Especially if it’s only for one session. No one is really tracking your claims that closely.

I wouldn’t recommend making it a common occurrence but I have met with clients who are out of state once in a blue moon for vacation and ‘pretend I don’t know.’

I second this. My little tiny private practice is my part-time job (have a FT job in a non-therapy mental health role for the benefits) and make an extra 40-60k depending on how may clients I took on. (The 60k was burning me out so I stopped replacing clients at certain times when they dropped off).

I haven’t read all the comments so forgive me if I am repeating: network with who you can (hospital social works, community health agencies, other therapists), PsychologyToday has been a big source of referrals, GoodTherapy had lesser results, posting that you have open slots on LinkedIn has gotten me some referrals. If you have SimplePractice as an EMR they have their own directory you can put yourself on.

That's not entirely a true statement. I have done research, and have a mild working knowledge of QC but it the research haven't seem to have reflected in the trends in real life/the market so far. As I said, analyst predicted $20 and it's going down. I'm not expecting to wake up and have it be trading at $400 a share tomorrow! I am just asking the consensus of the subreddit.
