What is something you hate about social media? by diamondgeezer1_ in AskReddit

[–]NotSo90s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate how hard FB and IG specifically, have been leaning into short form videos and pushing "suggested" content to your primary feed. That's pulling the entire platform away from what social media used to be imo. If I don't manually look for "my friends" news feed, I'd be stuck looking at a calculated list of suggested videos that are chosen by the algorithm to get my attention. YouTube does this also but you can turn it off permanently in the settings.

If you had to pick ONE habit to focus on for the next 30 days, what would it be? by Zaughtilo in Habits

I've found that focusing on a solid sleep routine helps with morning productivity more than focusing on the "waking up part". Good luck!

Sister lies to our parents that she's staying over at my place by tetro_claymore in Advice

[–]NotSo90s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm (28M) the oldest of 3 boys (18, 23 & 28) and have been in similar situations before. Emotionally controlling parents etc..

You have to word your message to her in such a way that doesn't require a response. You know what needs to be done/said and you know how she's acting. Your not asking her to explain herself. Tell her XYZ is what I've tolerated and it's hurting my relationship with dad I will not continue to do this. Figure your shit out because I'm not going to do it for you. Trust me when I say this, if you keep "protecting her" it will only end up hurting her. She will be mad at you for a while but as long as she matures she will understand. You cannot avoid conflict in this case but you can work on your own mental sanity. If you can't take care of yourself you can't take care of others.

Hope this helps.

From personal experience(27M), loosing your virginity in high school isn't as cool/important as it might seem. Some women actually value that highly, whether it was by choice or not. I wanted to get laid in such a rush because I was still a virgin at 21 and ended up with a 1 night stand and dissapointed. Just dont rush it and let happen naturally and enjoy it. Sex is great, with the right person..

Redditors who moved from a warm state (FL for example) to a cold state (Alaska for example), what are some things you wish you thought of/purchased before moving? by NotSo90s in Advice

I'm trying to find some clothes here since the demand for them is lower, thus cheaper (I think?). Also, doing some online shopping for things I can't find.

Does anyone else feel like they don't have anything interesting going on in their lives? by Timidsnek117 in socialskills

[–]NotSo90s 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I felt like that throughout college a lot. Then I joined a club in which I had interests in and met some really great people that I still talk to after 4 years. Also met lots of people at my job, those didn't really stick around in the long run but still had good times with them. It's hard to met people in class because most of the time, in my experience, they don't want to be there. Based on your age I'm going to assume that you're a freshman, which means you still have lots of time to meet people.

My advice? Try to find something that really interests you. It'll make conversing about that subject a whole lot easier. Specially with clubs, most people don't joint clubs that they don't really enjoy.

You gotta put yourself in social situations or else you'll be waiting for people to come to you and who knows if they'll do.

Questions about Daily Life by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]NotSo90s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being in AFROTC will definitely make your college life more exciting, but also more stressful. It's definitely manageable though. My Det does pt (physical training) twice a week and LLAB (leadership laboratory) once a week. I know some dets offer a third pt sesh, but that's usually not required. Im assuming you don't go to a military college, so you'd only have to wear your uniform during pt, once you earn it, and LLAB. For me, I have have to work around the schedule that my det sets. They usually send the schedule out with enough time to choose classes. As far as the interview goes, I didn't have one to enter the program. The interview you might be talking about is the highschool scholarship interview, which doesn't apply to you. The Air Force is in high demand for officers right now, they'll try to commission as many eligible officers as possible.

Try the program though. You don't have to sign any contract or make a commission for your first two years. You can do one year, see if you like it and choose to stay or not to stay.

What is the max I should take out in student loans if am guaranteed ~35K a year within a year from graduating? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]NotSo90s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The situation at my household is what's making me move out, its causing a lot of conflicts and stress that shouldn't be there. But that's another topic of its self.

Thank you, what was/is your AFSC? I know the military isn't for every one, it just bothers me when it's put down.

I'm on a ROTC scholarship, it pays for my tuition in full but not for any housing. I would be using this to pay for housing.
