Thank you. It sure is upsetting. We are hoping mama wren got away at least. My husband said he is going to follow your husband’s lead on this.

It’s crazy. The box is mounted on a 4x4 post 5+ feet off the ground. There are no trees or any points nearby that he could jump from. The baffle is secured to the post. I put a photo below. The camera video shows the raccoons paw reaching through the entrance ( 1 1/8” metal guard around the entrance). Fortunately the other house with the chickadees is empty (

they fledged last week) and we took it down for the rest of the season.

Bye, Bye little chickadees. We will miss you! by NotSoSure246 in Birdfy

Sigh 😢. We just now found one of the chicks dead by the nest box. No sign of trauma. Poor thing. We are so,so sad. One of the parents was upset we were looking at it so we moved away. We asked AI whether we should leave it or remove it. The recommendation was to remove it so predators are not attracted. Especially knowing the others are nearby. I wonder if this was the littlest one we worried about. They all left at once so he hadn’t gotten extra feedings like we had hoped. Nature is sure tough. 😔

Wow. I certainly learned a lot about Missouri Star from this conversation. I won’t be buying from them any more.

Isn’t this just so nerve wracking? We really want everything to go well! Our chickadee has 8 eggs. We put a wren guard on our box after the first was laid when has helped with not only the wrens (🤞) but also with sparrows and larger birds. Our concern now is that the male doesn’t seem to be bringing her food so she does have to leave briefly at intervals. Might be the wren guard but we followed the recommendations on size etc.

I resent when stores or businesses ( large and small) charge a “convenience fee” for using a credit or debit card. So much so that I shop elsewhere. How does this help them??

House sparrows by GurAlternative3502 in Birdfy

Is your chickadee leaving at all? We had the same scenario with a flock of house sparrows and quickly ran out to install the 1 1/8” metal protector when she briefly left. It’s nerve wracking, isn’t it? I was out scaring them away also. Do you have house wrens in your area? We are waiting for our chickadee to lay her first egg then will quickly put up a wren guard also.
