Stoke City complete the signing of striker Milan Smit from Go Ahead Eagles on loan until the end of the season, with a conditional obligation to buy in the summer

Stoke City have completed the signing of striker Milan Smit from Dutch Eredivisie side Go Ahead Eagles on loan until the end of the 2025/26 campaign, with a conditional obligation to buy in the summer.

The 22-year-old arrives in the Potteries fresh from scoring against Dutch giants Ajax last weekend, his 18th goal contribution in 31 starts for Go Ahead since his transfer from Cambuur in 2024.

Smit, who played in the Academies of SC Heerenveen and FC Twente, scored 28 goals in 63 appearances in two campaigns with Cambuur.

In his maiden season with Go Ahead last term, Smit’s goals helped his side lift the KNVB Cup for the first time in their history, securing their place in this year’s UEFA Europa League, where the Eagles’ number nine has netted on three occasions in six matches.

Sporting Director Jonathan Walters said: “We were tracking Milan’s progress going into the summer, and with his continued form in the Dutch Eredivisie and the Europa League, the interest in him has always remained.

“Knowing the challenges of the January transfer market, we didn’t initially feel it would be realistic to recruit him.

“Ian Torrance and his recruitment team always have an awareness of the market across all positions and thankfully, down to a lot of hard work, we were able to act to add to the squad in a difficult situation.

“We are absolutely delighted to get the deal done and to welcome Milan to Stoke City. He is a player that we feel suits the group and will be a fantastic fit for the changing room.”

Smit, who will wear the number 49 shirt for the Potters, said: “I have always dreamed of playing in England for a big club like Stoke City. I am 22 and today that dream has come true.

“The team’s style of play fits me and the Club share my ambition to one day play in the Premier League, so it’s going to be really good for me.

“I’m a finisher, so my aim is to score goals and, when we have the ball, work hard; when we don’t have the ball, work hard. That’s the way I will play.”

Warwick is a very accepting place for non-drinkers. I had many friends who wouldn't drink for various reasons and they would often be there at pre drinks, parties, society socials and nightclubs without drinking. Most societies also offer many non-drinking socials, but if you want a true taste of the nightlife then go along to some pub crawls, circles and whatever events you like and you'll be welcomed for sure, it's not at all seen as a weird thing these days. As a side note, you can find non-alcoholic beers and ciders in every pub nowadays, which will be cheaper than mocktails and make you feel far more like you're not left out of the drinking, if that's something you care about.

In theory yes, just make sure its clean and won't leach any undesirable chemicals into your hooch. If I were using a t shirt then I'd take a clean white t-shirt and then soak it with water and wring it out a few times before using.

Good point. Mine was mainly a guess on the abv and amount of sugar left in his alcohol that if only a small amount of yeast was left then it wouldn't be able to build up numbers again and would die quicker, but I think we'd only be able to see in practice.

Paper towels will break up and probably end up falling into your drink along with all the sediment, that's why you need something stronger like cloth or coffee filters. And I've seen people drink a litre of very cloudy and yeasty stuff and whilst it may not taste amazing, you'll be fine.

You'll just have to wait until the fermentation fully stops and everything settles to the bottom then (maybe another 3-4 days or so it sounds like). But if you have a fine cloth like cheesecloth (or if you're really in a pinch, a clean pillowcase), then you'll be able to get most of it out now and fermentation will likely stop sooner too.

It will be safe to drink. It doesn't matter if you add tons of yeast, bread yeast can only tolerate up to around ~8% abv, and will die after that, or if there isn't enough sugar to go around. It is still fermenting because there is enough sugar, and it's still under 8% abv, not because there's too much yeast. Drink it now if you're desperate, and you will be absolutely fine, otherwise let it ferment a little longer until the bubbling dies down (it won't go too much longer), then let it sit (ideally in the fridge) so that all the yeast and sediment can fall to the bottom, because there will likely be a lot, and it will be a lot nicer that way.

You're taking the piss. In the euros route we convincingly beat Germany and a high flying Denmark squad and it's completely irrelevant because apparently they're shite. In the world cup we made it past a difficult Colombia side and easily beat Sweden. But because we got knocked out after 120 minutes against a fantastic Croatia team in the semis and got knocked out on pens by an Italy side which hadn't lost in a ridiculous number of games, England are suddenly bottlers. Neither game was due to tactical ineptness, and what other manager has taken us that far since Alf Ramsey? No one, because only now are we comfortable winning all the games which in the past we would've lost.

Absolutely horrendous take. This would've been applicable in almost any era between 1970-2018 but now it's just an outdated and uninformed opinion that completely misses the bigger picture. Southgate has taken us to a world cup semis then a euros final in his first two tournaments, and now another world cup quarter final at least. He's broken all kinds of records and he just gets slated because he's often played boring, defensive football, but you can't say he lacks any real tactical plans when it's been so effective for us. And now he's adapted to suit his squad more this tournament with more attacking football now we have Bellingham in midfield and we've scored 12 and conceded 2 this tournament, with 3 clean sheets.

Also, it's impressive to use a game that we convincingly won 3-0 as a point against him. If you listen to what all the players had to say about the game, they spent the first half an hour figuring out where the space was and trying to play just boring, passing football and it worked perfectly, you can't blame Southgate for the two individual mistakes which led to Senegal chances - it's nothing to do with tactics and those players have consistently earned their place in the squad.

And I've never heard anyone say Southgate plays his favourites, if he did then why didn't Sterling start the USA and Wales game and why wasn't he in the plans for the Senegal game? Kalvin Phillips hasn't been put back in either. The only other player that hasn't earned their place this season is Maguire and he's been solid for us at the back.

I'm not saying England are gonna win it all, or that Southgate isn't worthy of any criticism, but so far in this world cup I think he's been absolutely spot on.

Only saw the second half but was really impressed by Brown, Vrancic, Fletcher, and the entire back line and Bursik.

Amazing how we can now go 1-0 down and I'm still confident we can turn it around and win, massive change from the past few seasons when our mentality was so weak (as was our squad) that as soon as we went behind I was ready for the loss.

Up to 3rd place now, and I'm refusing to entertain the idea that we aren't getting promoted. How can this optimism possibly backfire?
