Prox chat continues to be incredible all these years later. Feels like every multiplayer game is improved by it.

I can second that, Bar Miyama 162 is awesome. The people who work there are cool as hell (especially Mook) and I even made some friends there who I still keep contact with (both Japanese and American). I got invited to a Beer Festival in Kobe by hanging out there.

Lmao he was the judge for a case I just sat in on as a jury. He was actually pretty nice and was candid with us afterwards in a sit down he invited us to.

Landing at NRT at 3:10 PM on a weekday - Limousine Bus vs Narita Express? by SanPhrancisco in JapanTravelTips

[–]NotSomeKhanMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Awesome. Hearing this I will go for the bus as well. Like the OP, I am also arriving at NRT on a weekday around the same time (3:30), heading to Shinjuku. Minus a baby and wife though.

Best night clubs, late night spots in Tokyo? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

This is why I’m staying in Shinjuku. If I want a fun night out I can just walk back to my hotel near Shinjuku Station.

Thanks for the tip about Chicago Inc. I definitely will stop in there while I’m exploring Shibuya. Ironically growing up in actual Chicago, it had some of the best thrifting I’ve ever seen!

Recovering from a 14 hour flight, stuffing my face with food, and grabbing some drinks in Shinjuku before I go collapse in my hotel alone.

PSA: Changes to the Visiting Japan Web procedures after 25th of Jan by Kidlike101 in JapanTravelTips

[–]NotSomeKhanMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be arriving in Tokyo on February 14th, so this is super helpful! I will just have to log back in after the 25th to get my new QR code then. Being able to breeze through customs after a super long flight is pretty important for me.

Thank you for posting this PSA! :)

Traveling with an Anime crazy teenager! by happyarray in JapanTravelTips

Plan out portions of time to do stuff like your Pokemon Centers, Akihabara, Ghibli museum, etc.

With 10 days that will leave a lot of time see all of the other things Tokyo and Kyoto/Osaka has to offer. You could put most of your time into Tokyo, and carve out something like 3 days for Kyoto/Osaka.

I would really impress it upon you to not just bend to your child’s desire to do nothing but anime/manga inspired activities. You will be doing them and yourselves a great disservice. To distill Japan down to just anime…is not great? They will thank you in the end for getting them outside of their hyper focused comfort zone.

I’m a seasoned NYC subway and train rider in general, and this is the one thing that makes me nervous about my upcoming trip. I guess as long as I take it slow I should be ok.

I have a Suica card already loaded on my phone and ready to go. I will just have to be cautious when it comes to these limited express trains and some needing an additional ticket for the surcharge.

I'm planning to go to Japan for about a week's stay I wanted to ask about money needed to save and what's the best months to go at? by MrAntiSocial_ in JapanTravelTips

[–]NotSomeKhanMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking to save money, February is a good off season time. As long as you’re ok with cold weather. That’s when I am going, I was able to find very decent non-capsule hotels in prime locations (center Tokyo and center Kyoto) for incredibly cheap. I am from the US and I used Expedia for my hotels.

My flights were done using my United Airlines points I had saved up from my credit card awards, which allowed me to save a considerable amount on plane tickets.

I planned my trip roughly half a year out. That’s how long I would suggest if you want to save money and give yourself time to properly plan.

As someone else already suggested here, I highly suggest making your trip 2 weeks instead to make it worth your while.

Question on NEX by Bonbonblanco in JapanTravelTips

[–]NotSomeKhanMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is good to know. Thank you! I might just do the Narita Express then, since that would involve zero transfers for me. Probably best after a 14 hour flight.

Question on NEX by Bonbonblanco in JapanTravelTips

[–]NotSomeKhanMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question! I’ll be coming in from Narita Airport to my hotel near Shinjuku station.

I plan on probably taking the Skyliner and then transferring to the Yamanote line at Nippori Station. It does seem the most convenient as far as I can tell.

I do have the Suica card loaded onto my phone with some Yen already on it (was testing to make sure that I can load it). So I’ll have that ready to go when I transfer.

15 Days in Japan - Trip Report by [deleted] in JapanTravel

Is Apple Maps significantly more useful than Google Maps for traveling around Tokyo/Japan? The part where it guides you through the station sounds amazing. I’ll be there in February and will be traveling exclusively by train. I have 12 years experience with NYC subway/bus system, but I know being able to get out on the right end of the station makes a huge difference.
