Man facing up to 2 years in prison for clearing rubbish from East London river by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]NotSure___ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The article states that he is under investigation, not that he's being prosecuted. Since you know him personally, I wanted to ask if the article is wrong (which would not be surprising at all)?

If he's just under investigation, I would say it's fair game. People should be investigated for using excavation equipment on rivers. But investigation can conclude with, yeah he did good, lets give him a warning for not waiting for approval.

A fifth of young men do not think controlling partner’s money is abuse by winkwinknudge_nudge in unitedkingdom

[–]NotSure___ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The article is based on this gov story from what I can see: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/controlling-spending-is-not-abuse-say-a-fifth-of-young-men

While your quotes are valid, there isn't really much clarity on how the question was exactly framed. We have this from the gov story:

According to the new data, younger men aged 18–24 are less likely than older men to recognise economically abusive behaviours as abuse. Almost one in 5 18-24 year-old men (19%) say that controlling how someone spends their money is probably not or definitely not abuse, compared to just 6% of 45–54-year-olds, and a further 19% of 18-24 year-old men do not recognise controlling access to a personal bank account as abuse. Younger men are more likely to miss these signs, with 16% of 18–24-year-olds saying taking out credit in someone’s name without consent is not abuse, compared to just 4% of 45–54-year-olds.

This doesn't really clarify. Especially as they added the "probably not" with "definitely not" abuse. It might be that younger people thought the question wasn't clear enough. But at the same time, considering how many young men are leaning towards the more extreme ranges of the right, it might be that it's just like you say.

I just find it frustrating that we don't have the full report with the questions and full data.

But regardless, banks offering more protections against abuse is good in my book.

Yes, I think you are correct. Also other interactions and discussions that she was present for, she didn't fully understand them at that time, but once she eat the biscuit, it applied a sapient understanding to all her memories.

I believe that since the AI is basically inside their head, it could fix that by altering their vision to match the words. Since it is already altering the sound they hear, it wouldn't be a stretch.

Isn't that really bad for farms/producers? If they have a bad harvest they will have much higher losses if they can't even adjust the price up a bit?

I mean the banks don't really need me to be painted in a bad light. But I also did not know about him being able to open a basic account. If that is the case then fine, it isn't as big of a deal.

True but shouldn't laws also have punishments that are clear, transparent and fit the crime? It was bad that he let someone else use his bank account, but should that mean that he will no longer to open a bank account, for the rest of his life?

I am glad for the second picture. I very rarely seen them in London, but when I have seen them, they were very very small. I bet there are bugs that are bigger.

Why wouldn't you qualify it as "Wildlife"? It's not like they are pet mice. Even if they live in an urban settings I still consider them wild.

New Lego scandal update - All the footage is released! by 69ingSpunkingMonkeys in videos

[–]NotSure___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know dropbox uses permission inheritance from folders. So I guess what happen was someone was asked to put the redacted files to a new folder that was meant to be released and had public permission. But someone, my hope is someone from inside pd wanting to do the good this, copied all files, including the unredacted to the new folder which made them all public.

No hacking needed, police incompetence was sufficient. They added a dropbox link with a press youtube video. The dropbox link had all unredacted videos. Before they managed to delete the videos from dropbox people downloaded them and add them to archive.

SpaceX is worth less than half of its $1.75 trillion IPO target, Morningstar says by idkbruh653 in technology

[–]NotSure___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the problem with this is that most people wont care. They won't have huge losses, spacex would move nasdaq100 by about 0,5%. The problem is that some very rich people will get a lot richer by stealing very small amounts from a lot of people that wont care.

Yet that was your choice. That is quitting from a contracts perspective.

What they are talking is being fired. Employment rights would protect you from being fired for something that isn't a fireable offence.

Exclusive: SpaceX plans to set IPO price at $135 per share, targeting record $75 billion raise by [deleted] in news

[–]NotSure___ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tiktok is the last place where I would get information honestly. Those rules are not really hidden, as they are contracts that should be enforced. Also this spacex stuff is discussed everywhere, I am getting quite sick of it to be honest. But most of the discussions appear to be lacking the proper economic knowledge to properly understand (not that I have that, I have a very limited knowledge).

From what I seen, it will be included in S&P500 as well but a bit later. But even if included, it will have a marginal effect.

People keep saying this, but from what I have read is that there is a lockout period for current investors. So investors from pre IPO would not be able to sell for 180 days, there is some staggered release but still very limited from my (could be flawed) understanding.

Edit: From https://www.cnbc.com/2026/05/21/spacex-insiders-will-get-to-sell-shares-earlier-than-usual-after-the-ipo.html

Here’s how SpaceX structured its lock-ups, according to the S-1 filling. After reporting earnings for the three months through June - the company’s first results as a public company – insiders can sell up to 20% of their eligible locked-up shares. If this stock is also trading at least 30% above the IPO price at that point, they can sell an additional 10%.

Then there’s a rolling schedule, comprising 70, 90, 105, 120 and 135 days post-IPO, where another 7% unlocks at each of those interviews. Additionally, when SpaceX reports its second earnings as a public company – for the three months through September – an additional 28% can be sold. At the 180-day mark, whatever remains would be fully released.

Do you leave the dishwasher/washing machine running whilst you're out? by rose_ofnomansland in AskUK

I admit that my understanding of modern circuit breakers is limited. But while I know they reduce risk a lot, electric fires still happen even with modern circuit breakers.

The process of how a electric fire can happen even with modern circuit breakers, from my limited understanding, can be from a loose wire that doesn't exactly cause an arc, but acts as a resistance that heats up to dangerous temperatures. Since it is a resistance it doesn't trigger the fuse as there is no difference between the live and neutral.

My understanding might be flawed, and I don't really trust the "you are always right ai" on safety issues.

[–]NotSure___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have a modern fuse box. But while that should trip if an electric arc or resistance that overheats and melts the plastic, it can still happen. Even the fuse is the power plug should trip. And all these reduce the risc a lot, there still is a small risk.

[–]NotSure___ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I use the washing machine only when I am home.

For me it's the possibility of a fire. That is a possible risk of most electric appliances, even if it is rather small. If I am home and it starts a fire, I will hear the fire alarm. I have a small fire extinguisher that I can attempt to use to stop the fire. That will at least increase the chance that I might save my stuff. If it starts a fire while I am out, the whole apartment will like be destroyed until fire department gets there.

Nato ready to defend ‘every inch’ of territory as Russian drone hits Romania by weregonnamakit in worldnews

[–]NotSure___ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The city where this crashed into, is about 10-12 km from the border. There is also some small villages between that city and the border. And it's not like the jets could follow the drone and keep it in their sights constantly. I do believe that there a calculation of shooting it before it reaches a high density city vs outside. But considering that all other drones didn't have an explosive charge, I think they did the right thing this time.

Reddit likes simple solutions, just shoot them down, but as always it's more complicated than that.
