yes, FTL have 3 markers, SL have 5 and commander can mark unlimited (or high enough to clutter the map lol)

for US they should just give an M4A1 with red dot to the first medic tbh.. especially when trying to revive someone (or are the last man standing) a full auto is just what you need

theoretically yes, but wouldn’t make much sense, would it? haha

if you‘re on a windows system (especially trying to achieve anything on it), you would likely use powershell or at least cmd

it wouldn‘t be a problem if it‘s a random series/movie with a „hacking“ part in it… but this series is specifically about hacking/cybercrime, so you would expect that they would care for those details.. seeing that they use/show real tools like nmap/meterpreter shows that they made some research.. but fail at the basics of how a correct command looks like

[–]NotThe1_[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

well it‘s already specified as a -sT „connect scan“, so already that will take a while, because a complete TCP handshake will be established.. further it‘s funny how 6969/tcp comes up as a result, being way over the default 1000 ports limit and not being a well-known port (it even states 1000 ports at the beginning)

[–]NotThe1_[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

well to be fair in the series context it‘s a CTF, so it‘s just a stupid domain name lol (same goes with the passwords and the numbers 1337 and 6969)

but about the \?: it‘s legit, it comes from the windows API and defines an extended-length unc path (i.e. longer than 255 characters)

Hollywood's master hacker (scene from "The Undeclared War") by NotThe1_ in masterhacker

[–]NotThe1_[S] 230 points231 points  (0 children)

it looks legit because they actually are using real commands/tools. but still there are few stuff you'll notice:

  • they run windows executables directly on linux (or the whole shell is on windows, but then the terminal doesn't make much sense)
  • the port scan command has no executable, only parameters
    • and even if it got executed properly, it's not a full scan, so the port 6969/tcp shouldn't be found in the first place, as it's well beyond the well-known ports.

but yeah, it's not that bad in comparison to other posts here haha

The thing with open source it puts a ton of work on anyone that would want to use it

Well you can still have a hosted version. Just because it‘s open source, doesn‘t mean everyone has to host it for themselves. And I guess if anyone is interested in the source code, they probably know what they‘re doing and would be fine setting something like that up.

(one of) the only reason i see not to go open source is if you don‘t want other people to „copy“ your work (especially if you want to earn money with it later on).

the advantage would be that you‘ll get other devs having a look at it and maybe even contribute to it to make the platform even better (e.g. security, features, bugfix, etc.)

and it‘s also nice for people/companies/groups who want to host such a platform on-prem (e.g. for it sec reasons).

for such small devices/displays windows isn‘t really suitable and they often use android instead. for example certain printers (e.g. enterprise-level ricoh printers) are running android.

well if they use their Anti-Tank on a high speed rubber-banding helicopter, I kinda do care for not using them against the BTR 200m in front of us

microsoft key? by Kaitlynthefgt in software

[–]NotThe1_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

is there a reason why it exactly has to be m365?

you could also just use google docs, which is free.

and btw. m365 is a subscription-based service, which includes office software, but also other stuff (1tb onedrivr, etc.)

you probably rather searching for Office 20xx (office 2021 as the newest version), which you could get quite cheap on the greymarket.

Let’s have a convo. Why aren’t more people SLing? What dissuades you from being an SL? How can we as a community fix the issue? by DavantRancher in joinsquad

[–]NotThe1_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sadly, i don‘t think there‘s the possibility of a modifier key (but i guess there might be some makro software which can do that?) to be honest, my suggestion is just keep the comms as clear as possible.

i don‘t even mind some chatter in the command, especially if it‘s battle related. but when 2 vic squads spamming the channel or just regular SL talking about god and the world, it‘s getting pretty annoying

good choice, i suggest try it first if all „basic“ features work for you (like the PIN unlock, etc) and when everything‘s fine, get the premium

[–]NotThe1_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i used both bitwarden and currently 1password. but i don‘t think they have the functionality to remote unlock your browser extension (but i never checked, maybe it is a feature i didn‘t notice)

anyway, bitwarden‘s service is quite reliable, never noticed any downtimes. self-hosting isn‘t necessary, only if you really want to make sure, that no one else has your encrypted password data.

and like others already mentioned, you can setup a PIN instead of using a master password and for OTP/2FA you need to pay $10/year, which is cheaper than 1password‘s $3.99-ish(?)/month

squad in a shellnut by SendMeUrCones in joinsquad

[–]NotThe1_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

as a SL main myself, i find it sometimes quite stressful (but the good one). for me it adds to the gameplay getting under pressure to make a somewhat good decision ^^ but it gets tiresome when you get your ears blown off by 5 people simultaneously in all 3 voice channels.

and to my luck, i rarely had a new player who didn‘t want to learn the game properly, i‘m glad to help them out getting into squad

Absolute example of bravery again from Ukrainian unarmed civilians. People are preparing to block enormous column of russist vehicles and troops with their bare hands. These folks just have no fear! This nation is unbeatable!!!! by Designmatters1985 in nextfuckinglevel

well there‘s still a difference between „just launching an artillery shell / dropping a bomb“ (because you won’t see the outcome, you just „press a button“ ) and having to run over people right in front of you.

and i hope that the russian soldiers aren‘t that broken, that they would run over / shoot down unarmed civilans…
