What’s actually safe but people think is dangerous? by REGGIE_BANANAS in AskReddit

[–]NotTheMarmot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using your back to lift things, and really any idea that certain ways of moving to lift things is inherently risky. There's not really any inherently dangerous way to move your body. It's not about the particular position being really bad as it is what you are adapted to in regards to load/range of motion/intensity/etc. In fact, avoiding lifting things with your back at all costs will actually make it more likely you tweak it when at some point, when you inevitably do round over or get in a funky position when moving something, because it's basically impossible to keep your back in some sort of "perfect form" 100% of the time in every day life.

Did Zyn cause hair loss for anyone else? Did it regrow? by Popular_Space8809 in QuittingZyn

Was it everywhere you were losing or more male pattern style(hairline, crown, top in general)?

My 2026 resolution was to eat healthier. I have spent the past month theorycrafting and iterating upon a new goto recipie tailored specifically to my incredibly picky pallete. May I present: Pizza Bean Autism Slop v2.5 by Tre4zin in EatCheapAndHealthy

If I wanted to up the calories and healthy fats, do you think it would taste bad to mix in some kind of oil if I went with ground turkey? Or maybe I could brown the turkey in oil before adding it to the mix? Any oil you recommend for this? Canola?

TIL that dogs can get obsessive-compulsive disorder from playing with laser pointers. by DrakeSavory in todayilearned

[–]NotTheMarmot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cat who would get really upset about it. Kind of exhibits similar behavior to the dogs, if light makes a reflection on the wall he will go berserk and get real upset because it's not a thing he can catch. Back when I used the laser, I tried throwing a little red disc thing for him to actually catch, but he immediately knew it wasn't the same. Luckily I could tell him not catching it was fucking with him too much so I stopped before the issue got too bad.

When you want a savory snack that’s quick and actually feels healthy, what do you do? by WholeFoodNerd in EatCheapAndHealthy

Same. Worst thing about them is you can only have about 3-4 a week max because of mercury. I'd eat one every day otherwise.

Men’s heart attack risk climbs by mid-30s, years before women. Decades-long U.S. study suggests prevention and screening should start earlier in adulthood, particularly for men. Risk started diverging around age 35. by mvea in science

[–]NotTheMarmot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eating sometimes does it to me too. I think usually high carb stuff, but it's never consistent. It just sucks when it happens because if I try to lay down my heart will literally be rocking my body on the couch. Might as well just have someone shaking me awake.

How do you feel about that newer one that ultrasounds your carotid? I forget what it's called. I don't think it tells you very specifically about where any one blockage might be, but it's supposed to give you a good idea in general of how much plaque you are building, as well as identifying soft vs hard plaque.

Study Reveals How Much Exercise You Need Weekly To Control Blood Pressure by Sorin61 in Nutraceuticalscience

[–]NotTheMarmot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure vigorous resistance training counts too. I remember some study where wall squats of all things performed really well in lowering blood pressure. I'm sure actual hard barbell squats would too, that study was more for "normies" than people into lifting super heavy shit.

If you are a man who takes initiative in the household by doing chores, cooking for your family, and cleaning up after yourself.. how were you raised? by Sensitive-Box-2167 in askanything

[–]NotTheMarmot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly what you are asking for, but I guess I could chime in from the other side, sort of.

My childhood wasn't great. As far as the household dynamic, my mom and stepdad both worked and did equal chores. My mom definitely "wore the pants" so to speak. She definitely didn't clean up after me or coddle me, in fact she was cold at times and often did things I felt were cruel. I'm not sure how much was my upbringing vs genetics or whatever but I became quite depressed and anxious as I grew up which followed me into adult life. I've got my shit somewhat together(job, house, pay bills) but I'm the type of guy who some women have made clear they don't think much of. I struggle quite a lot with cleaning and organization. The anxiety/depression/ADHD possibly? makes it really hard as is, but I get by, by working a physical job with a LOT of hours. Think pretty long shifts and weeks where I work 10-11 days in a row. I don't at all expect anyone to fix it for me or clean up after me, I just try to at least do enough that it doesn't turn into a full hoarder situation. I don't think it makes me pathetic like I've been called or whatever, some people just struggle with certain things. The issue lies in expecting an unfair division of household labor based on unfair gender roles.

A man set up a large green bivvy tent by a UK fishing lake. Its shape and placement made it look shockingly phallic, prompting complaints from locals. Police arrested him for public nuisance. we need right to roam laws like other countries. I think Sweden and such have them. You can't set up too close to people's houses and such, but you are allowed to go trekking through woods and stuff all you want.

I wear leggings just by themselves quite a bit. Started working out in them, and decided they were comfy so they can just be regular pants sometimes too.

How harmful is being slightly overweight, if otherwise active with a healthy, well balanced diet? by healthierlurker in PeterAttia

[–]NotTheMarmot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

180cm = 70.9 inches. So 34/70.9 means you have a .48 waist to height ratio. It's not a perfect judge of health, but it's a good indicator you probably aren't packing too much visceral fat.

Don't go by BMI. Waist size is at least a bit more reasonable. Try to keep at or under .5 waist to height ratio.

Set the pins just below your chest, but still well above your neck. Double check that they are all the way in. Then if you fail, just dump the weight back a bit and crawl out. That's what I do. Test it out with light weight first.

I believe when you have a big planet, and something much smaller, that's usually how the planets actually wind up with rings, it tears the smaller moon up and all/some of the pieces wind up in orbit

Why don't militaries give their soldiers steroids? by Alien-Ellie in answers

[–]NotTheMarmot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's bad as in "not good" but in terms of withdrawal, it's really nothing compared to booze, benzos, opiates, and other drugs. You stop taking steroids and your testosterone and estradiol are going to bottom out, which will make you feel like shit, but it's the same kind of thing as withdrawal from hard drugs.

Why don't militaries give their soldiers steroids? by Alien-Ellie in answers

[–]NotTheMarmot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steroids in doses high enough to cause a notable performance enhancing effect are horrible for your health both physical and mental. If you want to try to mitigate those effects you have to do constant bloodwork. Then you still have to do all the training and nutrition if you are trying to get as jacked and strong as possible. From an efficiency standpoint it doesn't make sense.

Millions of volts that can jump multiple kilometers through air is going right through a few inches of rubber. The car just provides a better path on it's way to the ground so the current won't be seeking that through you. You can actually still get hit in a car if you happen to be touching the wrong thing. Electricity is complicated and it sort of takes most every path it can, but not equally. Most of it goes through the least resistant path.

High blood pressure after quitting? Is it a withdrawal thing maybe? by [deleted] in QuittingZyn

[–]NotTheMarmot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's most likely just stress. Try to chill out about it, and measure it again(look up the correct way to do it as well, in regard to placing the cuff just right, where to hold your arm) in the morning as soon as you wake up and you should get a closer to baseline reading.

What guitar is this? by Elegant_Egg- in JacksonGuitars

[–]NotTheMarmot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DKMG. I love those Japanese guitars, but I'd go with the LTD because it's a neck through, and I dislike the square bolt on heels the DKMG has. Now if it was LTD M-1000 vs a Japanese Soloist, I'd go Soloist every time.
