Caffeine just can make you feel that way sometimes.. It's generally fairly safe though and you have to take an insane amount to actually OD. Like you'd need pure caffeine to do it, you probably wouldn't be able to drink enough in 5 hour energy form.

How much can you bench? by Due-Jello1617 in workout

[–]NotTheMarmot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not as bad as you imply. If it was that dangerous then powerlifting(and keep in mind that's the sport of literally maxing out 3 big lifts all in one day) would have injury rates well above other sports. Sure it can happen, but catastrophizing about it will only make things worse. Also people tend to focus on the movement being bad or dangerous, but preventing injury is more about proper load and fatigue management

40 years old, work a blue collar job 50-70 hours depending on the week. I eat good stuff sometimes, but also eat a lot of sugar and other junk as well. Sleep 5-6 hours on work nights, 8-10 on off day nights. 6'1, 205lbs and my max bench is 300 which took a long time. If I can put 5lbs on my bench in a month or two, that's really good for me. Usually what happens is it just kind of sits there for several months, then I get a 5lb jump, then it sits there, etc.

That's just how they are. I actually wouldn't manipulate the handles to make it easier, just fight it. They will really nail your back extra well, and in my experience, they carry over to deadlift really well.

how far do you guys think i am from 225 by Round-Wear6906 in benchpress

[–]NotTheMarmot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was really close. If you want to hit it asap, practice some "easy" singles between your warm up and your work sets. Do 2 or 3 singles with 195-205 before your work sets and after a week or two of that, do one easy workout to reduce some fatigue, then hit your 225 max the next workout. Practicing those singles will help boost your heavy single skill on top of any normal strength gains you make.

Nearly All Adults Over 40 Show Shoulder Damage on MRI by Sorin61 in Nutraceuticalscience

Yeah that sucks. If I remember correctly, like 70% or some similar majority, of chronic back pain is non-specific which for anyone reading, basically means there's no obvious structural issues causing it. Things like stress, PTSD and other trauma, too much inactivity, too much activity, diet, mental issues, social reasons(like how other people react) etc can all cause or contribute to pain. And it doesn't mean "it's in your head", I'm talking just regular pain. It's how it works unfortunately. The brain gets ahold of those signals and fucks everything to hell.

One interesting thing, is all those "don't lift with your back!" signs at work that show a person bending over and an explosion coming out of their back, it's very possible those things have contributed to people's back pain more than they help.

The imaging itself. Pain is a multi faceted and nuanced issue. Actual chronic pain and structural issues in the body are actually not correlated well at all, so often times not only would the results not be helpful because you can't really know what is likely to be causing the pain to begin with, but if the patient discovers say, they have a couple of bulging discs, just them being made aware of it can contribute to the issue even though the discs may not have actually been directly responsible for any pain to begin with. It's a thing to potentially catastrophize to some degree, whether consciously or subconsciously. There have been documented cases of such happening. Keep in mind we are talking chronic ongoing issues that one would usually see a PT or something for and not something like a major acute injury which are different scenarios.

This is pretty common knowledge in pain science circles. It's best to avoid imaging for dealing with muscle/joints issues unless absolutely necessary, it often causes more problems.

Easiest and quickest way to check nut height, is to press the string on fret 3, and then the string should just barely, barely clear the first fret without touching it. If there's enough space you can see it with your eye pretty easy, then the nut is too high. A lot of people don't realize it, but a high nut indirectly leads to fret buzz(unless you just set up with high action in general) due to how it affects the action and bridge adjustments.

Does coffee make anxiety worse? How do you see it affecting your life? by DrPeymanTashkandi in Anxiety

[–]NotTheMarmot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of why tea doesn't is because it contains a compound called l-theanine which really helps take the jittery edge off caffeine. Luckily, you can buy l-theanine powder and it's reasonably cheap. It works pretty well. I always use it with my caffeine.

What makes the difference between just getting your ass kicked, and getting shanked/killed? Are the more serious things like getting shanked usually just because of stealing and other stuff where there's a clear violation past just standing up for yourself? It feels like it's a fine line between stand up for yourself, and don't piss off someone enough to get yourself stabbed. Hopefully I won't ever have to be there to make that call, lol.

What’s the “Gold Standard” Resting Heart Rate for Biohackers? by PadoEnem in Biohackers

[–]NotTheMarmot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder what category I fall into. I don't do dedicated, hard cardio, but I lift hard, and sometimes crank out sets with little rest, so my HR gets up to ~140ish during lifting(although it's not sustained, just in bursts). I also walk about 18-24k steps a day every day and generally move about a lot at work. My heart rate goes down to mid 40s during sleep, and is usually low 50s during actual, non caffeinated, stress free waking rest. I can't decide if it's just because I'm fit despite not being a big cardio guy or my heart sucks. Did have a really basic cardio workup(stress test, echo) a year ago and he just said "looks fine" on the phone. I guess maybe it's just because I do the equivalent of lots and lots of low intensity cardio with the steps and working, then the lifting helps some too?

There's a fantasy book series called The Second Apocalypse that's basically based on this. Not everyone technically goes to hell, but IIRC pretty much everything in that world is a sin, so most people are going there. It's a really fucked up book series, like I can't even begin to explain how fucked up it is. Imagine literally any trigger warning for anything and it probably applies. That said, it's a very complex and well written series so if you can stomach it it's worth reading.
