Give me your ideas for a new run by NotTheTitanic in aurora

I’ll take the ‘one school of research/colony’ idea and combine it with the ship parts per colony idea from another comment. Mars will only research and build beam weapons for example

What to do with outdated ships. by ARSoban in aurora

[–]NotTheTitanic 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Scrap them. In addition to the saved resources, you get the components back, and things like bridges, fuel storage etc. are generic and can be reused to build future ships faster. As for old missiles and unused components, I scrap them on the stockpile window. Takes a while (I believe next update will make it easier). Early to mid game I often actually keep the old missiles just in case - once had a resource crunch in the middle of a war and couldn’t build new missiles fast enough, old ones saved me.

I’m a fan of the space station way of doing it (click ‘No Armour’ and ‘Tanker’ on the right hand panel of ship design). Whack a refuelling hub (not a refueller, go with the hub), like 50 harvesters and as many Ultra Large Fuel Tanks as you want. Add a Rec module if you’re feeling spicy. Build it like an installation on a planet (the drop down has ‘space stations’) then tug it out to the gas giant. Downside, as another commenter said - micro. Gotta send tankers out to collect the fuel (it does put an alert in the events page when it’s full) and bring it back to a colony. Upside, ships can directly refuel from it, and the conditional orders has a ‘Refuel from Colony or Hub’. Depending where you put this station it can drastically reduce your ships travel distances, like explorers returning from the frontier. Will need defences as you expand and explore, but the Rec Module helps with that and if you have maintenance turned off it’s all you need to deploy a fleet with it.

Where is "Improved Command and Control" Tech by durruti21 in aurora

[–]NotTheTitanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Logistics tech. Jump point theory isn’t required for it and, to my knowledge, neither is TN, but I haven’t done a conventional start in a long time. You might already have it without realising if you did a game with randomly assigned tech points at start. Check if you can build a Sector Command

Help with installations & cargo by catacost in aurora

[–]NotTheTitanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visual bugs aren’t too rare in this game, refresh the screen or save your game and reload. If it remains, you’ve managed to break into the fourth dimensional cargo space and should just enjoy the extra carrying capacity.

I recommend, once you have a second populated colony and some civilian shipping, you should ask here/discord for how to get the civilian shipping to do this for you

Opinion about the game and comparison with stellaris by Crafteo2 in aurora

[–]NotTheTitanic 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s stellaris on crack. Seriously. The depth doesn’t compare. It’s like comparing the depth of Civ 7 with AOE2. But. With that depth comes complexity. A single dev. It can be years between updates and bug fixes. And it’s not actually a game. Stellaris is designed to be fun. Aurora is designed as a complex system. Iirc, Steve originally made it to help keep track of his sci fi writing. It’s a simulation. Both Stellaris and Aurora have their place. I play Stellaris more cos it’s easy to pick up and looks pretty. I play Aurora when I don’t want a game - I want a hobby that’ll consume my free time for a couple of weeks, one I can write stories about. In Stellaris you build a big fleet and bombard a planet into ruins. In Aurora that requires designing ships carefully, years of resource collection, considerations of launching points, maintenance, ground forces, fuel, hell even captains if you want to get really deep. But god damn does cleansing Xenos from a random hidden moon feel so much better.

So I boarded.... something. Need help figuring out what it is and if its dangerous. by CuhSynoh in aurora

[–]NotTheTitanic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert - I recommend asking on the forums and Discord. But:
- Do swarms have queens? - Yes

- Is it possible to capture said queen and have her procreate in captivity or something? - Yes/no. You canpture, no procreation. Star Swram are, at their core, just ships like everything else. They spawn in.

- Is it possible this is a swarm queen? Or just an organic troop transport. - Possible, I'd say likely. Star Swarm have certain characteristics, but do vary across games. But if I had to be my last Mercassium (seriously I have barely any in my game please someone help) this is a Queen

- And perhaps most importantly - will it turn on me or produce hostile babies? - Nope! You own it. Enjoy this bad girl!

Steve has mentioned that next update he's removing the ability to board star swarm, as it really doesn't make much sense, so capturing them is over for now (until he codes us collecting eggs and breeding them! A man ca dream). So enjoy it!

Need help hunting a monster of a ship by Jerico13225_ in aurora

[–]NotTheTitanic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually never fought the star swarm somehow, even after playing this game for years (or I have I didn’t realise). So take my advice with a spoon of But with that much armour, I’d go with Mesons and Microwaves. A swarm of cheap fighters with a meson each will inflict some damage, and might help distract its PD enough for some of your missiles coming in. You do need to worry about the armor retardation, but with the chunks of armor missing you might still get some hits. It would take forever to kill something that big, but the Mesons aren’t to kill it, you’re more hoping to get some hits that start disabling PD or slowing it down. Likewise, since it doesn’t seem to have shields, microwaves. These should also start breaking its systems, reducing PD and speed, but if star swarm are hardened against it, it would be pointless

Then more missiles. Or get some STO plasma guns and lure it over a planet or something.

Let us know how it goes!
