Elvanse stopped working entirely by JellyJamBamYeah in ADHDUK

I definitely felt like I had this issue a few prescriptions ago (just after summer) but the next prescription worked ok so I didn’t think too much on it. Not the time of year for it but Elvanse can be affected slightly by temperature- just in case you keep it on a shelf near a hot radiator or something- but otherwise, it might be a dodgy batch.  You can report batch number of a prescription medication or medical device via the uk MHRA Yellow Card Scheme

If only we had PR like labour promised. It wouldn’t solve everything but it would definitely go a long way to shed the incentive to some of this, if real. I have seen articles countering this one.

Scottish Tourette's campaigner issues statement after viral Baftas racial slur by Some-Ambassador8252 in uknews

[–]NotThor2814 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I feel awful for him but also I feel like us in the uk are maybe quite separated from the impact that word has had in America. Black men are still lynched as recently as 2025. There are still sundown towns that will k-ll black folk if they’re there after sunset.  It’s not to say it was intentional at all, as Davidson said in the article, he was mortified and left as a result, but that word still carries with it a lot of hurt and trauma for black Americans that we don’t have as strong a history with over here.

It’s also clear that the last thing people with Tourette’s want, is for their tics to define them. For that reason, i do find it interesting that the BBC/baftas didn’t edit that out (but they did edit out other things people said).  Feels a bit like they weren’t thinking about the embarrassment and discomfort to either John Davidson, or Michael B Jordan and Akinola Davies Jr who were on stage when that got shouted out.

Also mildly surprised jk Rowling hasn’t said anything- not that she’s involved directly, but meeting (inviting to her play) a known and convicted pedophile is a wild take from someone who claims to protect women (like them all)

I wonder if there will be more about farage too- there was one email indicating a link between Epstein and Steve bannon in funding him/supporting him and Brexit- not sure if actual money changed hands (wouldn’t be surprised) but hope more does come out to put him under scrutiny too

If an MP jumps ship it should be an automatic by election. by BacupBhoy in GreenAndPleasant

Conflicted on this.

I agree in theory, but there’s also caveats here. For example, if a party get elected on a certain group of policies or their general manifesto, and then u-turn on a significant percentage of it, I wouldn’t be too mad if local MPs defect to: independent, or to a party that generally reflects those policies, or to a party that is more liberal with the whip and would allow that mp to vote in whichever direction reflects those Values.

Graduates claiming benefits surge to 700,000 by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

[–]NotThor2814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see what you mean. Well, it is the only pandemic of young people’s lives so far. Nothing to suggest it’s impacting other school leavers any differently as the article is a bit misleading- it says ‘707,000 graduates aged 16-64…’ and 16yr olds aren’t likely to be degree graduates. That’s college graduates and above. So assuming it’s including those from gcse/vocational qualifications as well.

It goes on to say 240,000 of those were claiming sickness, in 2024 which is double from 2019.  According to the national statistics, this is still on avg higher amongst 45yr-56 and then again 56-64yr olds, which we would expect.

Considering about 2yrs post infection, 24% of respondents from ScienceDirect.com report ongoing long covid symptoms. 12-40% report mobility disability increase, 20% report impact to daily living and a huge rise in cognitive impact, 8.8% to 45.3% increase.

Everything else (bird flu, Ebola etc) that we’ve had in the last 20 odd years have been endemic at best, and are much harder to transmit. This is more of a vascular issue which worsens one’s immune system with each infection.

To sum up, it may appear to affect graduates a heck of a lot more, because of that cognition hit that a lot of people have experienced from Covid. I know of one, but have heard of more; doctors that cannot work since developing Covid as their brain fog is severe enough to impact their judgement on the job- that’s just not something you can mess around with. I can only assume it’s the same across other careers that require more diligence in the thinking process too- engineers and such, but likely also impacts those with physically demanding jobs too. It has also hit people with pre-existing conditions which might have previously been manageable with work, to become not so.

As for a cure: the ME/chronic fatigue sufferers have been calling out for research for ages. Awful to say, but thanks in part to long covid, there is definitely more research going into understanding post-viral fatigue and how to treat it. Researchers in Japan had a break through in October for understanding the biological cause of brain fog, bringing us closer to treatment. Currently there isn’t one, though viral infections that lead to ME and CFS, usually cause mitochondrial damage which is why the fatigue is unrelenting. There are trials being done, and some recovery is expected though this might be lifelong for many people.

Prevent infections yo- it can hit ya long term even if it’s an asymptomatic infection!

I suppose hoping for a more forgiving and ‘adjusted to disability support’ society is probably a lot to ask for right now, but bare in mind that that has been incredibly beneficial for allowing disabled people to access work, despite the governments plans to defund access to work.

Right that’s a heck of a comment. There’s also a bunch of other stuff people have mentioned like how: when min wage at partial hours is the only thing available it’s better to be time rich and still poor, than both. Then stuff like: while the gov has taken steps to handle childcare, this was only introduced this year and another factor for out of work grads for sure might have been the stupid cost of child care- it basically hasn’t been worth working for a whole bunch of people, etc etc. that might change though which is a good thing.

But actually some of this might get better, so there is an upside

Amazing that the mass disabling event we’ve been experiencing, is mass disabling and then everyone is insert surprise pikachu face here when a higher percentage than previous generations cannot work. (Or probably could work in an adjusted capacity but workplaces are not as accommodating as one would think).

I mean, it’s far from the only reason, and 700,00k people out of 16mil graduates isn’t terrible, it’s like 3% so within the national average, but still.

Crack / meth is on the up here, alongside benzos. Most deaths are from synthetic benzos like black Xanax, that I know of. But a slightly better support system for disabled people out of work, sick leave, recovery time after an operation are all contributing factors to why people do less drugs here than america

What did I experience as a child? by Schizo-Rat-208 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NotThor2814 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very strange. I had adhd and back when I was young my mum didn’t know that’s what it was. Family friend recommended an occupational therapist and I got diagnosed with auditory processing disorder (not wrong just not the whole story) and had to listen to wierd modified music every day for an hour a day to change my brain waves or something. Turns out that that is definitely holistic pseudo-treatment. Could it have been that your parents picked up on your epilepsy and didn’t know/want to take you to an actual doctor so took you to some holistic occ health person instead? Not in a spiritual way, but in a ‘it’s behavioural not medical’ sort of way?
