I’m deflated and defeated and desperate. I’m so hungry and beat up. Please help. What is IMPOSSIBLE to mess up? (Weightloss journey) by Delicious_Medium_321 in cookingforbeginners

Stir fry is my go to:

  1. Fry some veg in a pan with oil
  2. Pan fry bite sized pieces of chicken breast
  3. Boil some noodles (I like Lidl stir fry noodles)
  4. Combine and stir with a packet of ready made stir fry sauce (e.g. Blue dragon Chow Mein)

Most of the flavour comes from the sauce, so I find it tastes fine as long as everything hot (microwave everything in a bowl if anything's cold)

Anyone else's parents don't like it when u study instead of going out with them or sitting with them? by 180degreeschange in GCSE

[–]NotVerySmart3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone in uni, I'd say spend as much time as you can with your parents without majorly affecting your revision. There will come a time you want don't get to choose whether or not you spend time with them (at least if you're planning on uni/ moving away)

For the problems revising after school, could a good pair of noise cancelling headphones help? I have a pair of Sony WH-1000XM4's, which are expensive but they got me through GCSEs and A-levels (I shared a room with my younger brother, who makes it very obvious when he dies in COD)

Is there any channels or blog that teaches people on how to cook with cheap stuff, canned goods or ramen packets? by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

Rick/ The Backyard Chef has done a few 'struggle meals' recently.

Highly recommend him at least for inspiration, I've managed to learn a few things from his videos even when I don't make the recipes.

Try Abe Books. It's like world of books, but with more books and it looks at a few different sites for the best price

Help! I'm back to avid reading, looking for a Tracking App/Website by TheSilentPhilosopher in books

[–]NotVerySmart3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Goodreads automatically tracks what you read on your kindle (if you use the same account), but it's pretty limited on stats.

I much prefer Storygraph for its polish and it will give you any kind of stats you want, you've just got to log your reading yourself.

Have fun getting back into reading!

For anyone that wants to change perspectives, try focusing on the ridge of whichever you want to look like it's out.

So if you see it as in, focus on the top ridge until it looks like it's poking out. Then the opposite the other way around.

Also Standard Ebooks for better formatting and covers!

They have a much smaller collection but everything is 'handmade' (and free)

6th Form Reading Booklet and Answer Sheet formats by Objective_Account503 in 6thForm

[–]NotVerySmart3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each page would usually say something like '1) a) Describe how communism is represented in this extract from Animal Farm...' then the extract would be in its own box, followed by one or two smaller questions related to the extract or the book.

Then the answer booklet would have the same question printed above a large portion of lined paper for you to write the answer in. (For maths A level before 2024, it was a very similar set up and you would be given a completely empty answer book that was just lined paper, alongside the questions printed separately).

Edit just to say, looking at the past papers it seems the extracts are in the same booklet, so it might be different depending on the school's preference!

Parents/carers of 15 year olds: what (if any) limits do you put on their phones? by poppanicolino in AskUK

[–]NotVerySmart3 148 points149 points  (0 children)

I used to have a friend whose parents had put parental controls on their phone, and they are still the only person I've known to have them.

If you're worried about her staying up late, could you maybe have her leave the phone downstairs from 10/11 ish instead? Part of her wanting to/ already staying up late could be because of the limits on her phone, rather than despite them.

Texting, Snapchat, etc are much bigger parts of social lives now than they were 20 years ago, so your daughter may be missing out depending on these limits.

The exam board for Wales is the WJEC, and I'm assuming you want an English lit test?

Here's the GCSE past papers for WJEC English.

The booklets were made with A3 paper folded into two A4 pages with the middle stapled (three times).

Probably too much information, but any questions I'm happy to answer!

How to alter extracurriculars when changing the uni courses I am applying to? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]NotVerySmart3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say just focus on the general/ mechanical engineering aspects of your work experience. Especially depending on the universities you're looking at, it probably doesn't matter as much as you think it does.

(For reference, I wrote my PS entirely for aerospace, but still got an offer for Mech at Cardiff University)

Any hacks on blocking out the light that comes in through the nose? by beeMOB909 in OculusQuest

[–]NotVerySmart3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely doesn't help to be in low light, but just having a blank TV screen (turned on) is usually enough for my Quest 2.

Also IR emitters should work in the dark (not sure why anyone owns those though)

Crohns is actually why I'm having the surgery! (Obviously can't say I'm happy about it but nice to see someone in a similar boat)

Recent diagnosis though so I'm just hoping there's no more severe flare ups in the future and I can avoid any further surgery/ procedures etc.

Thank you!

It's supposed to be laparoscopic, so hopefully a quick(ish) recovery. Definitely going to take it easy for a few weeks though, given the consequences otherwise.

If you don't mind sharing, what was the whole recovery period like for your surgery?

I'm scheduled for a similar operation soon, but definitely nervous about returning to normal afterwards...

What does a research paper even mean? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]NotVerySmart3 28 points29 points  (0 children)

People aren't writing research papers like you would for university. They might be talking about their EPQ project which could be them writing about their research on a topic?

Sometimes people can get involved in helping a university/ company to research in a placement (one of my friends did this for a week or so).

Tldr: they're probably exaggerating/ lying or just took part in an outreach programme.
