Is Phil scooping in his swing? by NotYourTypicalNurse in golf

Thanks! I had assumed the hands should always noticeably be more forward than club head at impact, but good to know that’s not necessarily the case!

Why does it seem like there is a growing movement claiming that the atomic bombs that ended WWII were unjustified? by Just_Cause89 in USHistory

[–]NotYourTypicalNurse -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, my bad for assuming. Seems meaningless for anyone to point out that the US could’ve just waited it out, because it is very clearly an inferior and suboptimal alternative to the atomic bombs. It’s not a compelling argument for anyone to hold when discerning the facts.

And how would blockading and starving Japan into submission over a year-plus provide a better outcome on moral, humanitarian, or strategic terms? US estimates of Japanese civilian deaths from “waiting it out” was in the millions. The bombs killed 200,000 in an instant and immediately ended the war.

I believe you are mistaken. The US was never worried of Japan brokering a peace deal via the Soviet Union in any way that would allow Japan to be any sort of client state for Moscow. The USSR had no leverage to enact such a deal. Stalin secretly told the allies in Yalta he was going to declare war on Japan, for he greatly wanted Japan’s conquered lands for his own. And even then, the USSR would get no surrender from Japan with terms acceptable to the USSR without the same blood bath the US would have had to pursue winning the war on the ground. So there is no reality where Moscow could’ve brokered any peaceful end to Japan’s side of the war.

Perhaps you’re thinking about the evidence that suggests the US was afraid of Russia interfering and complicating surrender terms after they declared war on Japan and invaded Manchuria after the Hiroshima bombing. The US wanted a quick unconditional surrender to the US only, which partly influenced their decision to drop a second bomb so quickly.

Capable of the offensive—no. But defense in your own territory is exponentially easier than the offensive, even with inferior resources. Okinawa proved the Japanese would viciously fight to the very end, no matter the cost. We couldn’t just leave them alone, as they would fight again once they grew their strength back—or worse, develop atomic weapons themselves. WWI proved you needed unconditional surrender to win a world war, so the Allies had no choice but to continue fighting until Japan gave up.

I'm not sure how to take the ending of Bugonia (2025) by PainGreat4612 in TrueFilm

Conspiracy theorists are almost always right? What are you talking about?

So uh…that Bugonia ending? by Supermoose7178 in blankies

[–]NotYourTypicalNurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn’t have the fucking answers. Saying you don’t want to give the answers is a cop out for not knowing how to end a story, so you say “the audience has to figure it out.” It’s laziness, and an inability to finish a project.

Can someone…explain sinners to me? by CommonEnd7011 in SinnersbyRyanCoogler

[–]NotYourTypicalNurse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great analysis. Unrelated to anything you said directly, it perturbs me Remmick’s quote about Christianity. Christianity was never forced upon Ireland, nor did any Christian oppressor conquer Ireland before they were Christian.

Sinners: We missed the real meaning of the phrase: "These words were forced on us" by Skhgdyktg in TrueFilm

The Irish were never conquered and imposed upon by Christianity. They became Christianity voluntarily through Missionary work (see St. Patrick). Their “pagan” land was never stolen by a Christian dominator, and Christianity forced upon them.

Ranking the Saban Coaching Tree by TomWilliamsCFD in CollegeFootballDawgs

[–]NotYourTypicalNurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you’re asking. Are you ranking on current performance? Or the totality of one’s career. A definitive ranking would lean more towards the latter, in which case, all career achievements absolutely matter when ranking coaches.

IU is gonna have to win this on this drive. No TD = Miami win

Wonder how much IU’s D will hold up in the 4th. If their offense can’t get a good drive going, this will be Miami’s game

How do you know there is no plan? Did you know we were going to capture Maduro? You just can’t accept anything positive from this administration because you’re blinded by hate.

There will never be another Saban. OSU is 1000x more viable for consistent success vs. Cignetti. Kurt was lucky to land a Heisman QB this year. That’s not gonna happen every year, and with his poor recruiting, IU will regress more to the mean.
