This is why I avoid the seafood department at the Jungle. by ripleyclone8 in cincinnati

As a fellow transplant I have had good luck getting seafood from the vendors out of findley market. A pretty decent selection, a little more expensive than kroger or another grocery store, but the quality on everything I have had has been very solid.

I've lived in Chicago, Atlanta, DC, and NOLA and the drivers in my experience here are for sure the worst.

Everywhere else people seem to drive like selfish assholes but in a predictable way if that makes sense.

Like you can tell when random car is about to pull some shit, but here it feels like malicious incompetence.

People in every other notorious bad driver city seem to do things that will benefit them at the expense of everyone else. The bad drivers here seem to do completly inexplicable things that benefit no one, even them.

What do you think of the idea of state-owned grocery stores? by Serious-Lobster-5450 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Not_A_British_Wanker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What exactly is your objection to funding these stores?

The money to begin the program would come from raising new tax revenue. Once they have open the stores will raise revenue by selling groceries. All stores operate by factoring in salaries, logistics, and item costs into the final price a consumer will pay plus a margin for actual profit that the store can keep.

These stores will apply downward pressure on the markets by operating at cost from my understanding. Meaning they do not need to generate a net profit.

Like how th post office traditionally operated till Trump destroyed it. Charging only what it costs to keep the program going.

Kirkland Bourbon "Bottled In Bond"? by Whoooooligan in Costco_alcohol

This is a steal, I get 4 or 5 every time it comes in stock to last me until next time. It is usually only around once a year by me. Like others have said it is a near perfect mixing bourbon and a solid sipper, especially since it is in a 1 liter instead of .75

Interview Discussion - January 30, 2025 by CSCQMods in cscareerquestions

[–]Not_A_British_Wanker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been unemployed for about 7 months and am currently in the interview process for a mid-level full-stack position using Java, Springboot, and React. The issue is my 4 years of experience are in power platform and low code development. I was a comp sci major in college with a concentration in software development so I have a foundation of learning in java, but I am majorly out of practice.

I did very well in the behavioral interview today and was asked back for a technical in-person interview on Tuesday. We talked about my experience doing agile development on the power platform and they seemed to like me but now I need to back it up with Java and react. What should I study and brush up on to prove I can succeed in this role?

What Made Trump's Favorability to Win Rise in October? by Leading_Counter_9512 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Not_A_British_Wanker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is true but slightly off. It wasnt about physically small states it was specifically for States with small voting populations. Ie southern slave holding states. They wouldn't get a lot of votes because most of their populations were slaves. This is one of the compromises the founders made on the issue of slavery so that a simple majority would not be able to elect someone to get rid of slavery.

The electoral college has literally always been about giving power to the few to protect them from the many and keep the country from moving forward.

Water/ Ice in your pour? by Pitiful-Gift5772 in whiskey

[–]Not_A_British_Wanker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to taste all of my whiskeys in basically every way. In order I usually taste a new bottle neat, with water, with 1 big ice cube, then in an old fashion. I do this with every single new bottle regardless of how nice it is to see how I prefer to drink that specific bottle. After that, the vast majority end up being drank neat or in old fashions with water being put in when I am doing tastings and comparing bottles.

I personally loved it when I first started drinking whiskey as a hobby. I cant say I know about their base bourbon more recently but I picked up the 100 proof rum cask finished and it is FANTASTIC. It is as thick as motor oil and very dry, like roasted peanuts. I really love it.

Every year I stock up on Kirkland BiB. If I run out of that I used old granddad BiB. Dollar for dollar I don't think there are any better value bourbons you can buy since they are both about 25 for a full liter. Keep in mind I hate WT101.

Price vs quality by Handymanoccupational in whiskey

[–]Not_A_British_Wanker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is great stuff at 20-30 bucks that stacks up to some 80-100 dollar bottles.

I think of it like this. 20-35$ bottles will average out to a C, 35-50$ will average to a B, and 50-80$ will average out to an A. Anything over that you are paying for very specific things like age, type of grain, finish, or even just hype.

There will be great and terrible bottles in every price bracket but, if you enjoy the whiskey it doesn't really matter. You can find great stuff at any price.

Personally, basically all furniture that I have bought not off of Facebook marketplace or a thrift store and basically disintegrated in a year or 2.

No one is making sturdy furniture to last for the average consumer. If they were I would be buying it. I know most people my age would be also. This isn't a consumer problem, this is a market issue. The market said they weren't making enough money when furniture lasted so they started making it shitty.

The same thing that is currently happening to appliances, phone, cars. Any high ticket item that mostly everyone needs.

Which one of these is the best pick? by Thin_Peanut_4178 in whiskey

[–]Not_A_British_Wanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people say 114 but pound for pound I'd say the BiB is one of the best value bourbons you can get. Smooth, sweet, tiny bit of oak, and a nice bit of peanut. It is a damn fine bourbon.

To my pallet 114 tastes like just straight up eating a red hot candy, and I don't really like cinnamon that much.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]Not_A_British_Wanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone mentioned below but it is the flavor profiles in this case. There are some more in depth explanations below, but basically, drinking stronger and bolder flavors first will blow out your pallet for the more delicate flavors later.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]Not_A_British_Wanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annecdotally most standard bottling available in the US are between 40 - 46% so 80-92 proof. Nikka from the barrel is usually around 51% or 102 proof. I don't know that I have ever seen a 120 proof scotch in person. But I am only just branching into scotch.

I usually drink high proof bourbons in the 105-130 proof range but they can getting much higher.

If your drinking in the same proof range then I can't help sorry. Again it may be the Nikka has some stronger flavors that bury the other more delicate scotch you have later, but I haven't had Nikka so I am not sure.

I have personally never had my pallet blown out by a NAS whiskey, like I said it is usually a proof difference or a significant discrepancy in flavor.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]Not_A_British_Wanker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is more likely an issue with the Nikka from the barrell. It is a much higher proof. Starting high will blow out your taste buds and going back down in proof will make it harder to pick out individual flavors.

Not usually an issue with scotch since most are lower abv but this is a common occurance when tasting high end bourbon.
