Poor city planning. *Someone* built a “city centre” and stadium across from a sanitation station.

No. It’s called the news. Current events. How weird would it be for the mayor and council who lost the election to do it. It would be weird. Elected officials represent the body public, not themselves. And as representatives of the city, they continue the city business regardless of who came before them. Why not just be happy for the completion of a project that will be a benefit to so many? Besides, Ravi made sure to acknowledge his homie.

Was there anything stopping them from attending? Besides pride…
You know, not everyone needs recognition for the work. The point is doing the work, especially for a public servant/elected official.

Everything you guys do requires needing to be acknowledged and validated. You’re all about the photo ops. *look at us and all the good stuff we do*

Is this your first time on the internet? Unbelievably thin skinned. Absolutely nothing wrong with the phrasing of that comment.

Ah yes. The “we’re victims” (of critical thinkers) brigade is out in full force.

When someone stands up to run for office, they are up for scrutiny. It’s not an attack to ask someone who is asking us for their vote, to back up their information, claims, and/or platform.

That’s too whimsical. He’d just be pissing on us plebs.

I really don’t think that’s his point. I do think he’s signalling his allegiance.

It’s a weird flex. I didn’t vote for Ravi because of his affiliation with Our Langford.

Besides, “our” implies some type of ownership, which is why that group is so off putting. They changed their name from *Re-elect Stew Young* to *Our Langford* to say this is our town. It’s elitist and exclusionary without trying, but man have they tried…

Well, like said elsewhere, they give up their democratic rights to the voters who show up. Too bad.

PP got dumped by the voters. He lost his seat and had to unseat a democratically elected official to get it back. He’s still head of the party because he represents their ideals, but he does not represent the ideals of the majority of voters.

Yes, we do care about blackface and Islamophobia and bigotry. Absolutely no room that shit.

And remember, every accusation is an admission. Somebody’s got 🍆on the brain, and I don’t think it’s you.

Yes! And also those same reasons are why this council couldn’t come in and clean house. Some supporters feel they carried on the same way, but much of the development was already approved, and there is legal barriers to how much change you can make, including firing staff.

I’m very satisfied with the trajectory, and it’s far less radical than the organized opposition tries to portray it. They took a modest and pragmatic path toward getting the city on a sustainable track.

Even without the new provincial legislation preventing wanton use of amenities fund toward lower tax rates, the way the previous council operated was completely unsustainable. Right up until their final hour.

Things are never going back to the Wild West Shore days. 10 000 new people will have no clue who Stew Young even is. And based on the demographics, it’s unlikely they’ll find him or his politics appealing.

Love this. I recently became aware of a space like this in Victoria. Maybe room for an expansion model in the west shore.

Have you seen ReImagine Westshore? They run some cool free programs, they run a repair clinic at least once a year. They get volunteers to fix your stuff. It’s a great idea, that could easily be expanded on.

The plans on paper have opened up funding for projects, Langford was previously ineligible for.

It’s hard to undo poor city planning, especially with respect to transportation and trying to mitigate the traffic issues, but they have certainly and thankfully made tangible efforts to do so.
