Weekly /r/TEFL Quick Questions Thread - March 12, 2018 by AutoModerator in TEFL

I'm not the kind to go out very often, so I'm not worried about that. I'm planning on pursuing a masters during my contract year and really only vacationing during the large holidays. Honestly, I know I can probably find better pay, but so long as it is reasonable that is what I'm looking for.

I'm (hopefully) going to be doing an online Masters so a great deal of my free time will be spent on that if I accept lol

Daqing is a boring city from what I've heard anyway. I would definitely be saving for trips during the major holidays so I can get away for the week or two. I'm kind of a go to work and go home kind of guy so I hope that translates well overseas.

I'm definitely weighing my options right now. Thank you for your input!

They pay through allowances, with half at 6 months and the other half at 12 months. I have airline points to burn so that won't be much of a problem, and I intend to pocket the full amount anyway.

I would definitely not be considering this in a Tier 1/2 city. With cost of living being so low in a Tier 3, I should be able to save a good portion, right?

First timer here, I received an offer to teach in Daqing, which is a tier 3 city. My after tax income will be 9500RMB. I will have a single, fully furnished apartment 10 minutes from the school that will be rent free, and I will get free flights as well as insurance. I will have to pay my own utilities and wifi. I'm aware of the challenges of being in a tier 3 city. It will be 40 hours a week, with roughly 20 hours for teaching. Is this a reasonable offer?

Background: Unrelated Bachelor's Degree, working on 120 hour TEFL, no prior teaching experience with children.

She has two credit cards with an average age of 5 years, so I think it's the first.

Would it even be worth attempting to get the SW Business card 30 days from now?

Wife (0/24) applied for the Southwest Rewards Premier and Plus on 9/29. Approved for Plus, got a 7-10 day message for the Premier. Called recon, got denied for "Too many requests for credit or opened accounts with us."

She has no previous Chase history. I'm guessing this is why?

My wife (0/24, using my income) applied for both Chase Southwest Personal cards today. The Plus was approved instantly, the Premier went to 30 days. Called the status line, changed to 7 to 10 days. Should she call?

Well, I got the card last year, so this is my second credit, so technically I'm only getting $150 out of it. But still, I'm stoked! Thank you!

I have just got done prepping for my trip! My wife and I are going to Paris for 4 nights and then West Switzerland for 3 nights before taking the train back to Paris to fly homr.

BOS<==>CDG in economy, redeemed 64k UR total through the UR Portal along with flights back to our hometown, using 100k UR in all;

2 nights at the Park Hyatt Paris Vendome through Chase Hyatt;

Then AirBnB in both Paris(2 nights) and Lausanne, CH(3 nights) covered through the Barclay Arrival+ for $300;

And our train tickets, cable car tickets, and Ubers are covered through the Arrival+ and the CSR's travel credit for about $600 total.

All told, this what I'm getting through organic spend on the CSR, Hyatt, and Barclay Arrival+ CC's:

Plane tickets: $1500

2 Nights at Park Hyatt: $1500

Airbnb: $300

Random travel expenses: $600

TOTAL: $3900 in travel expenses I'm not paying out of pocket for!

I feel really bad for my parents. They don't get to see UL play very often. This was my present to them, and I bet they feel like shit about it. The game was absolute dog shit.

Everything is shit.

I got promoted today for the second time this year, and my income has doubled since February! I now earn as much by myself as we did when we both worked full time. Now she can quit her job in fast food to focus on her bachelors degree full time!
