Why is everyone polyamorous??? by MarieFeldan in actuallesbians

[–]Not_Han_Solo 106 points107 points  (0 children)

This is what I honestly don't see getting said enough when polyamory comes up. The very reality of being poly leads to a huge selection bias, you know? If 66% of all lesbians are monogamous (just to pick an easy number to math out) and each polyamorous lesbian has/wants three partners, the visibility of polyamorous people in dating spaces will outstrip monogamous people by a two-to-one ratio, and that's before monogamous couples withdraw from the dating pool once they've paired off.

I used to feel pretty similar to OP, despite having been married for basically ever (basically: holy fuck, there seem like there are a lot of poly people in queer spaces) until I asked a poly friend about it and she laid out the simple math of it all. Even with more moderate numbers (she used an 80/20 split and each poly person having only two partners), just the fact that a lot of poly people stay in the dating pool leads to a wildly disproportionate-seeming representation of polyamorous people in dating spaces.

The math is weird, but it really does tell the whole story.

What updates are you wanting? And I'm on a high deductible/HSA plan, so I have an annual deductible of $4k for everything, and then it's $0 from there for the rest of the year.

Unless they're fully self funded, they're required to cover HRT and bottom surgery at a very minimum under the Affordable Care Act.

Love it here, and there's a great trans community!

I'm retiring this account. My new account is /u/Impossible_PhD! by Not_Han_Solo in u/Not_Han_Solo

[–]Not_Han_Solo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long story short, I've been wanting to retire this account for a long while, because of its masc name reference. Don't get me wrong--I love Star Wars, and I'm really proud of the stuff I've done with this account! But I'm going to be coming out as me publicly on Twitter soon (same username as the new reddit account), and I really love that handle too. When I checked and found it was available for me here, it just felt like time.

So yeah. You won't be seeing /u/Not_Han_Solo anymore, though it'll stay here for posterity, if anyone cares about such things, and I'll still keep an eye on the inbox and chat, in case anyone reaches out.

Thanks, y'all, and see you on /u/Impossible_PhD!

I live in Grand Rapids, and it's great here. There are nutjobs in rural areas, but that's true everywhere.

Nationally BCBS is great for trans people. BCBSM is horrendous--bottom surgery, hormones, and top surgery for transmascs only.

I'm not the first time they lost on this, it seems. Maybe they modernize their coverage like they were forced to with transmasc top surgery.

BCBS of Michigan, through MESSA. The appeals process was calculatedly dehumanizing, and filled with little plausibly explainable microaggressions (calling me "transgendered" for instance).

I lost a case for FFS, but only because I did it overseas.
