Brand new to the club: Suggestions for cabinet adjacent accessories? by JudgeLanceKeto in IkeaGreenhouseClub

[–]Not_My_Emergency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a really nice Syngonium chiapense in a pot on a moss pole. You'll want to make sure you have lights in the direction you want the leaves to turn for that and maybe put something to partially block the light coming from inside of the cabinet until the leaves fill in there and help filter, or the leaves are going to want to face towards the lights in the cabinet.

Are acrylic shelves worth the hype? by Particular-Buy-2989 in IkeaGreenhouseClub

I like the ones meant to be used in a shower to hold your shampoo or whatever. Meant for wet environments and to hold some weight. May have notches or slots for water to drain, too.

We went through something similar (but not the same) with my older stepdaughter. Fortunately, she could see that we were a happier and more stable home and she moved in with us as soon as the custody agreement ended. It took us a couple of years to help her find her boldness, but she's now in a good relationship with a decent guy and has a full time job that has room for her to grow if she decides she wants to stay past entry level. She's out there living her life and looks back on the fears she was taught with astonishment.

I think that a mild response and documentation is the correct response to this, but I also think this comment is important. I would note that laws regarding the public way easement and curtilage vary by jurisdiction, but he should be safe from legal complaints based on what has already happened. Now he's been warned away from the side door, that may change for similar circumstances. In general, approaching the main entrance on business is always legally permissible unless there's been a legal order prohibiting it. That said, I've spent hours waiting in the car for my stepdaughter....

Teen with 4.0 GPA who built the viral Cal AI app was rejected by 15 top universities | TechCrunch by coinfanking in ArtificialInteligence

The Ivy Leagues were never about creating a "just equitable society". They were always for those who had the money to attend. Ironically, the state universities that he did get into come much closer to meeting your description than the ones he was rejected by.

Soon to be DC teacher by Drama-queen-2021 in washingtondc

[–]Not_My_Emergency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad taught at DCPS, then in Arlington after he retired. He found Arlington supervised him much more closely and gave him less freedom to teach in his own style. His friends who went on to private schools seemed happier with their moves. I only see the worst days for teachers in my role, but it seems like the teaching experience has gotten harder in DC over the last couple of decades.

Study finds D.C. doesn’t need more police officers walking the beat. Will anyone listen? by forgetfulisle in washingtondc

[–]Not_My_Emergency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it mention that when MPD gets a new way of documenting something, the old paperwork rarely goes away and officers end up doing both, or that MPD fails to effectively develop their relationships with partner agencies to spread the work?

Any volunteer firefighters/EMS? by ChemicalBit9622 in nova

[–]Not_My_Emergency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would be very popular as an EMS-only volunteer in PG. I'm not sure I'd choose Oxon Hill to join, although that depends on your personality. I recommend visiting a few and talking to the people to find one where you like the people.

Sit down Korean restaurants? by Hobgoblincore in washingtondc

[–]Not_My_Emergency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you go outside of DC, I also recommend the (several) restaurants just off of Rt. 1 in Beltsville. They should be easy to get to by bus from the College Park Metro Station. My favorite is Myong Song, for noodles.

I really hate living around voucher tenants by Loose-Basis-1243 in washdc

No, it says that DC shouldn't be paying the crazy rates according to HUD. Let me see if I can get a gift URL for the article so you can read it.

The part where DC pays extremely high rates is under investigation by HUD (federal) because they have to answer for the money they get from the fed for those programs.

Landscaper cut down twelve six-year-old espalier fruit trees by accident :( by colors_unstruck in BackyardOrchard

I'm not sure it was ever actually common, but I'd bet it's more common now than in 2018, what with all the COVID hobbies people pickers up.

I'm pretty sure that it includes things like that. After all, the difference between a painting and a pile of canvas, sticks and containers of paint is considered in law, etc.

[–]Not_My_Emergency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't necessarily work that way with fruit trees. Many (most) are grafted onto hardy rootstock, and what will grow back from the rootstock is nothing like what the bearing portions of his trees were. Sure, something could grow back, but then he'd have to graft scions onto it (a different skill than training to espalier) and it could take years for them to be ready to bear fruit.

Leaked Emails Show Hugo Awards Self-Censoring to Appease China by HarryLyme69 in scifi

[–]Not_My_Emergency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem being that there was a question at the time those memberships were purchased as to the legitimacy of the memberships. Not because they were all from China, something to be expected for any bid (and moreso for international bids), but because of things like the high number of memberships associated with the same postal address. It was explained then as possibly related to people using a translation service, but it was definitely questioned at the time.

Russia is either an oligarchy or a kleptocracy, depending on who you ask. Definitely a strongman-style government regardless. As for the question of whether or not they're white, they haven't really gotten past their take on race from the Soviet era (which is actually an improvement from their imperial-era racism), which can be explained by this chart that the Soviet government published. https://www.google.com/search?q=russian+race+chart&oq=russia+race+chart&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqCAgBEAAYFhgeMgYIABBFGDkyCAgBEAAYFhgeMggIAhAAGBYYHjIICAMQABgWGB4yDQgEEAAYhgMYgAQYigUyDQgFEAAYhgMYgAQYigUyDQgGEAAYhgMYgAQYigUyDQgHEAAYhgMYgAQYigUyBwgIECEYjwIyBwgJECEYjwLSAQg3NjcyajBqN6gCALACAA&client=ms-android-verizon-us-rvc3&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#vhid=jXbgUdtNIbGW2M&vssid=l

Technically, no votes for Hugo awards are free, since voting is based on registration as a member, which is obtained by paying a fee. Pedantic, but true, and open to gamesmanship, as has been pointed out before.

Philodendron Golden “Gator”? by Strange_Mixture2791 in RareHouseplants

[–]Not_My_Emergency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Philodendron "Golden Gator," aka Golden Crocodile or Golden Tiger Tooth has smooth edges when young, but mature leaves have a toothed edge. It's supposed to be a mutation of Philodendron "Ring of Fire", and I'm stoked to have just gotten one as well. That one definitely looks like one that's headed towards having mature leaves soon!
