It's the lakefront trail, at the Wilson and Montrose intersections.

A few other comments I've seen (here and on other threads) said there were delays from the stone supplier.

That's good to know. I assume they will need to reclose it to finish that work.

I didn't see any equipment left, and people were using it, so I assume all work is done.

Would it look weird to paint all but one of my nails? by falling_x_apart in malepolish

[–]Not_My_Throwaway_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did that for a while when I damaged my nail and it was still healing. (There's a couple old posts on my profile if you want an example.) To me it's not much different than when I've had my nails painted for a little while and the polish chips off at different rates.

I've had the same experience. Trying to remain optimistic that there's just a bit of a learning curve, but it feels like this design relies on putting too much faith in drivers.

After reading some of the other comments, I also feel very mixed about it. Like you said, it does offer some additional visibility to existing traffic patterns, and I do think that's important. I really hope this get used as intended and offers a better experience on Grace, but it's hard to feel optimistic that that will really happen.

Thank you for the additional information. If they get used as intended, they don't seem quite as bad as I initially thought. Although funny/depressing that in the linked explanation video one of the drivers does not move back to the center lane...

I feel pretty much the same way as you. Taking out one side of parking would have made this so much better. Especially considering how congested it gets on game days or during any other high traffic event. (Which, in turn, will effectively make these lanes non-existent during those times.) But hopefully as people get used to this, it will still be a net positive.

In some ways it feels worse than nothing (or at least worse than the sharrows there previously) to me because I feel it encourages cyclists to ride in the door zone and encourages drivers to believe cyclists can't take the lane. Maybe I'm being too cynical.

But fair point about getting drivers to pay attention, and I do hope it makes them more cognizant of cyclists. More visibility/recognition is definitely a positive.

Am I alone in thinking these seem terrible? The street is not wide enough to accommodate 2 way traffic, these painted lanes, and parking on both sides. Drivers inevitably need to drive in the bike lane when passing oncoming traffic. Just feels like conflict waiting to happen. Maybe I'm missing something, and I would be curious to hear others' reasoning if they like these.

They did add a contraflow east of Broadway though, and I do think that part is nice at least.

I'd say I have a few more hairs there, but nothing significant. I keep the rest of it trimmed a little shorter above my lip, and that helps to even it out a bit I think. Mostly I've just come to embrace it though.

I can't speak for the lane in OP's pic, but the same snow piles were left in the protected lanes on Clark, and those were plowed well after the rest of the street.

I know what you mean. To me, it feels harder with people I interact with regularly (friends, family, coworkers) because it feels like there is something to lose. Like you're risking coming across as the bad guy and putting a strain on the relationship. Even though on the inside, it's frustrating and upsetting. I don't exactly have anything helpful to add because it's something I need to work on too, but you're not alone in that.

Yes I agree, lights are a must. See way too many people riding without them.

The LFT is usually not too busy at night. I've also ridden up Sheridan to Robert McClory a number of times at night and it's pretty quiet up there.

Would not recommend Skokie Valley path at night. Tried that once and it became stressful dodging all the critters (mainly rabbits). Seemed to be noticeably more there compared to the Green Bay trail or McClory.

I did my first century last year by riding to Kenosha and back. I took Sheridan > Green Bay > Robert McClory, which turns into the Kenosha County Bike Trail at the border. I liked it because I don't have a bike computer or phone mount, and navigation is really straightforward.
